Hi guys; I wanted to share an idea with all of you, whether or not you've been following my progress in my blog. I set a new challenge for myself which has been working amazingly well, and I think it's something that a lot of you could probably adapt and use for your own purposes.
I've always struggled with temptations - avoiding all my favorite sweets; saying no when treats are shoved in my face - and for a long time now I've been trying to find different "tricks" to help with that problem.A couple of weeks ago, after having been sick and out of the gym for a while, I set a mini-goal for myself: to lose both weight and body fat by the following week's session with my trainer. I made sure to stick to my nutrition and exercise goals, and I started tallying the days in my log. Every day in my notes I'd label it Day 1, Day 2, etc.
As the numbers started to grow, I got more and more motivated to keep counting them up. After 7 days, I decided to keep going. I chose 21 days as my extended goal, because of all the research done that says it takes 21 days to form a new habit. I told myself that if I "slip up," I would have to start over at Day 1. It's astonishing the way just that one little daily number has helped me to say no over and over again, and to make good choices day in and day out.
I have my own personal daily goals, which I outlined in my blog if you're interested, but I think everyone here could set your own daily goals and just stick to them one day at a time, whether they're exercise goals, calorie goals, Points goals, or something else. Just start counting up the days. If you try it and it works for you, let me know. Or even if it doesn't. I'll be interested to hear.
