buying smaller clothes for motivation
I went shopping today and was trying on pants. I decided to get a really tight pair thinking it would motivate me every time I try them on. Has anyone else ever done that, and did it work?

In my 15+ years of doing that - it has only worked once! Hopefully, it will work better for you! :)

To be honest, it didn't work very well for me. Dieting is easiest for me when I am happy. If I constantly wear clothing that I don't feel comfortable in, I get frustrated, which makes it much harder to maintain my good eating habits.
But hey, everyone's different! Good luck!

Uuuuuuuhhhhh yea, and finally after 4 years, I'm "this" close to fitting into those leather pants - only problem is, I feel too old now to wear them anywhere. My only chance will be when I go to Las Vegas in about a month.
What the hell was I thinking?

OP here
I tried not to go to crazy and get really tight pants that I couldn't button. Just ones I would feel a little more comfortable in if I lost another 5 to 10.
This is the feedback I was hoping for, and I do hope it works out better for me since I also hate wasting money!!!

I lost 17 lbs before I went on vacation this summer and I thought this time I will keep it off and keep going. I went thru my closet thinking if I got rid of my larger pants it would force me not to gain. Now after gaining 14 of it back I am mad at myself for gaining it but also have to buy some temp pants for the cooler weather until I lose again....ugh!

Smaller Clothes for Motivation
I tried buying some cute shirts a size smaller about 2 1/2 years ago. I'm selling them on eBay now. Just not the right motivation for me. I really hope it works for you.

I bought "goal" jeans that were too tight for me. I'm giving mine away too...because they're too BIG now!
I took a picture of them and made it into an invitation (you're invited to fit into these jeans!) and hung it on my fridge. It worked for me!

Well, most women have "skinny clothes" from when they were thinner. They rarely ever are motivation to lose weight, so I fail to see how buying skinny clothes is going to be any better...

one pair is a good thing
one pair is a good thing, you can keep trying them on to see if you've changed. However, I got into buying all my clothes in size 12 this year and I'm in size 16. I can't bring myself to buy 16!

This has never worked for me. I saved clothes from when I was smaller on the hopes that I would fit back into them. It never happened so after two years I donated everything that didn't fit. My new motivation is to buy new things once I have reached my goals.

I had read somewhere that it's motivating for others if you hang up a bikini or something like that so you see it every day. Didn't work for me. I spent a bit on a really nice bikini several years ago, and when I look at it, I already know that I will never be that size again.... but the nice thing is that I am okay with it and recognize that I can still be really healthy but not stick-thin like I was years ago....
Good luck!

OP here. I must not have bought them small enough. I put them on today and buttoned them up. My husband for the first time I can remember told me my butt looked hot. Took me by surprise. I don't think I'm going to buy clothes that are too small anymore though. I seem to have a good strategy going already, and I'll wait until I get to a smaller size to go shopping crazy!
