Cool Down Question

I normally cool down after my cardio or steps, but since I intend to incorporate weights after excercising, shall I cool down as per usual or immediately proceed to prepare for weights?

TIA.

cool down

I think it depends of how long your cardio session is. I normally alternate my days of long cardio sessions with days of weight training - I don't combine them. I feel the risk of over exercising a certain muscle group is always there. Anyway, i do start of my weight training sessions with cardio of 10 - 15 minutes at a medium-hard pace, to get the heart going, then immediatly do 100 situps, this gives my body time to settle down but not cool down completely. then I go on to the weights, whenever I see my heartrate going to high ( I use a Polar heart rate monitor) I just go back to doing a couple of sets of situps until is lowers sufficiently. Hope this helps.

HI there,
I think that whenever you are doing aerobic exercise, you are supposed to allow for a cool down period so that you are not coming to a screeching halt... (that's harsh on the heart and body).

So, in that vein, I would think that cooling down is a good thing-- your body will naturally have a higher resting rate after exercising, so depending on how vigorously you are working out on weights, you may or may not keep the heart rate slightly elevated...

The good thing about doing weights after aerobic exercise is that the muscle groups are already warmed up and you don't need to do nearly as much stretching before hand, but it's always a good idea to do some....

Thanks all.

I have read the other thread and they have been informative. I will most likely go for a routine such as warm-up, cardio 20 mins, cool-down, 40 mins weights (upper and lower body) and finally 10 mins abs. It looks like it's going to be a lengthy session :)
