really blowing it today

Need to reach out guys - I'm having a bad day, got in trouble at work for not doing something i should have taken care of a long time ago, for whatever reason this morning i woke up feeling defeated - and the day is going downhill. All i can think about wanting to do is eat - get rid of some of these feelings - i'm struggling - i'm stuffing food down HELP

That sounds frustrating. Just try to remember that one mistake or one bad day will not ruin everything. If you have to keep eating, try eating something like carrot sticks. You can't get in too much trouble with those.

Also, try to think of something to look forward to once you're out of work, like a nice bath with candles and soothing music, or maybe go buy a fun magazine or something on the way home. You're a good person!

Its ok, we all have bad days, and by posting here you are one step closer to learning to deal with it. Just remember that every meal is a new chance to eat great. By eating great for your next meal it will help you start to feel more in control again!

Bad Day

One day won't mater all that much. Just get back on that horse tomorrow. If you are already feeling defeated, do you really want to be kicking your own butt about food. Where I live it is cold out. I don't know where you are but, I find when it is warm, I can go get myself a frozen yogurt on a cone go for a walk and eat it. That way I don't feel so bad about the calories in it. Eat it slowly and be sure you are walking the entire time you have it. That way you get a treat and a nice long walk and they both feel good.

We all have days were we mess up. That is human. Give yourself a break even if it seems no one else wants to.
I know it can be so hard to want to stuff those feelings down with the food but once you do that then you feel worse about yourself and more defeated. The only way to get past that is to feel the feelings and acknowledge it is there and be strong against the food cravings.
However if you do fall and eat more than you want don't beat yourself up about it. Give yourself a break and get up and dust yourself off and start again.
I hope tomorrow is a better day for you. Or better yet, that you don't have to wait until tomorrow for it to get better.

Wow, I can feel your frustration, today especially! Usually I do very well but I got some potentially scary news about my job today as well and did the same thing you did. I didn't eat "horribly" but I didn't do well either and I KNOW it's due to the stress. Here's to hoping tomorrow is a better day for both of us. Getting up in the morning and motivating ourselves to work out first thing might help get us back on track and realize that at least the food and exercise ARE within our control even though these other things aren't. Now, If I can just practice what I preach...

OP here

Can I just say I love you guys - such wonderful advice, I don't feel like a pathetic idiot anymore. Thanks. I have a few more hours of work I need to finish up (its 11:00 P.M. here) which would give me alot of time and opportunity to eat but I've made myself a cup of tea and I'm rolling with it.
THANKS

Next time you are feeling bad, I know this sounds crazy and not like you would feel like doing this, put on your tennis shoes and go for a walk or a run or to the gym or something. Exercise is not only good for you, but will release endorphines to start making you feel better, plus you won't be shoving food in your mouth while you are exercising!! Try it...
