I was just writing how much it would help to actually have a chat room or something of the like in PT, for those times when you could really be eating or something but instead you come on here to just vent and get your mind off of things... I find it really helpful to have ppl to talk to. Not sure if any one else feels the same way...

with all due respect, that should be what a phone is for. I don't think the internet should be a sub for human interaction. A true friend isn't going to laugh or criticize you for venting about how much you want the doritos your husband left in the kitchen...

Hi, I just joined a new team called Y Eat. It was set up for reasons such as you explained. I just joined yesterday, but it sounds like a good idea. The big thing in the group is discovering y we eat and all the stuff that goes with emotional eating. You might want to check it out. I think it'll be a fun team. And they are a very welcoming team.

Op here - I was just thinking that sometimes it is easier to talk to people who aren't close to you, someone who can give you an outsiders opinion. And i think that Y eat sounds like a great team, but it's nice to know that if you come on here with something to say your prob gonnna have someone online at the same time to talk things through with... It's just another way of helping you get through, there is no need to put down ideas that in the long run might help one or a few people lose a little bit more weight... I think it's important to do what you can, and if it helps who cares!!!!

An "outsiders" opinion, should be one that isn't yours. True friends tell you the truth, regardless of how much you like it.

Starting a chat room is more likely to make people more dependent on this site than real people. That is not healthy.

Saying "yeah, but this would be easier" doesn't mean it would be right. Again, human contact is better. Work at fostering relationships with real people, and not in a chat room.

I honestly think that it is a good idea, to give people a chance to chat about what they need to, who cares if it isn't in a 'real' situation isn't it good that they are doing it in the first place?? Plus some people need to spend more time on the internet if they are travelling or something and what i have found is that Someone somewhere is always up when you need to chat and go online, it doesn't make you a worse person just becuase you find it easier...

That is a fantastic idea!

You COULD use your phone and call you friends, but it's very likely they'll get annoyed if you keep calling them because you want to eat something you shouldn't. Some friends aren't good at understanding what you need them to say, and just tell you to go ahead and eat the doritos.

This could also work for, little questions like, "I'm about to go to the gym, I usually do the treadmill, but I want to try something different. What can you recommend?" Or "Quick question... what program should I do on the elliptical? The interval one or the hill one? What's the difference?"

Or "I really don't feel like going to the gym.. have any of you been yet today?" That could motivate you to get to the gym... if everyone is like, "Yeah. I've already been!"

I agree! A chat or a buddy/pair up that would be there to type to you instead of eating would be FABULOUS, I'm in if you are!

If you have messenger programs (i.e. AIM, Yahoo! IM, MSN, ICQ, etc.), why don't you just exchange usernames so you can chat on those until there's a formal chat room sort of place?

does anyone know how to make a suggestion to get one? I think it would work because see how many people have used the threads to communicate it's just a variation...
