Why is it harder to lose weight as we get older?

Why is it harder to lose weight and keep it off as we get older? Is it loss of muscle or other things going on in our bodies? If I work at gaining more muscle will it really make a difference in how fast the weight comes off?

Yeah when women get older, they lose muscle mass. When a woman reaches 30, muscle mass declines by 5% each decade. So it's important to strength train.

I agree. Strength training is one of the more important things you can do as you age!

The older we get the slower our metabolism gets, as well as loss of muscle.

In addition to the previous information, as women approach menopause and decrease their estrogen production the body will hold onto the estrogen it has..which is in body fat.

The importance of strength training can't be emphasized enough. In addition to the benefits to bone strength and cardiac heath, muscle mass will keep your metabolism purring along and we all know what that means...more calories burned, even at rest.
