Organic foods
I am just curious if anyone else has dealt with these problems.
Twice now I have bought products that are organic. Thinking it would be better for me. And both times I have sworn never to do it again.
The first time it was romaine lettuce. It was full of bugs. Tons of little tiny bugs like flys. I had to throw it all away. I don't know if people just wash them off or what but by the time I had gone through it I wanted to throw up.
The other day I bought an apple. I love green apples and the regular ones were 70 cents more per pound than the organic so I thought ok I will buy one. Thankfully I only bought one. The apple was ok but not worth wasting my calories on and the skin was awful. No matter how much you chewed it was not mashing up. Maybe they were old or something but ick.
Is this common or was it just the store.
It is a big chain store so the turnover of fruits and veggies is pretty high.
Thanks for your answers.

Ugh. That's weird. I've never had a problem with organic produce - maybe it's the store? If you feel like going through the hassle you can always return that stuff - maybe something is going on with their organic supplier. It wouldn't hurt for the produce manager to know about it, though. Shouldn't have to waste your money like that. Bummer.

5:01 again - make that - in the FUTURE you can return bad produce...

We buy our organic produce at the farmers' market and haven't had any problems like that. Maybe you should go to one if you have one in your area. Also, Trader Joe's has organic produce and haven't had any problems with it.

I am almost 3 hours away from a trader joes so that is out of the question but we do have a farmers market in the summer and cost wise they are pretty good.
As I get healthier I will be able to go to more places to see what is available.

OP - let your produce manager know in the meantime. Who knows - maybe he got a bad batch of lettuce and he didn't realize it. Or I know I've learned a lot about produce on the few occasions I've talked with our guy - maybe this organic produce supplier is new or far away or who knows what else. Doesn't hurt to ask!

I love organic food. I haven't had any problems with mine and second Trader Joe's, but depending on you live my fave is Whole Foods Market. It could be that the place you're buying them from is just stinky.

You could always try washing your own produce..... and getting used to eating apples that don't have pesticides in them and waxy outsides to make them look prettier......just a thought.
