poop--that's right. i said it.

i know that i need to be vigilant about my daily fiber and water intake to keep myself regular, but do any of you have any tips for producing a bm? i know this is a less-than-savory post, but i'm backed up and feeling awful.

thanks for humoring!

when that happens to me, and no amount of fiber helps i take MOM. i take about 4 milk of magnesia tablets with a big glass of water before bed, and lo and behold, i'm ready to "go" in the morning with no pain or cramps.

Drink warm water (or tea), put a heating pad on your low back, and massage your abdomen in a clockwise motion. And as someone above said, absolutely take a walk.

Beans beans and more beans

Have some beans. In the last few days I had black beans and chick peas. I'm regular as ever. A purely enjoyable experience!

Dried fruit, in particular prunes, apricots, and raisins are also excellent aids in this situation. I eat 2-4 prunes or apricots, or a couple of handfuls of raisins at night and relief arrives in the morning.

Also, make sure you're drinking enough. If you are dehydrated, your body tries to hang on to water in all ways, including wringing out the last drops from your poop. Providing enough water is like greasing the whole system.

I've also heard that apple juice works wonders but haven't tried it myself.

Good luck!

For some people, walking isn't enough. I need to jog - but for less than 5 minutes. And to put it in the nicest terms possible, the experience is more comfortable and productive than usual.

An awful lot of people I know call coffee "poop juice" because its effect is so immediate for them.

My mother has a strange trigger: shopping for greeting cards. So think if there is an odd task that seems to have that effect on you and do it.

I remember a thread about this before and it took some searching but I found it
Under the heading
Food recommendation to um...get things moving
There was some good ideas in there.
I just went into the community and typed under the search button, constipation. It will give you a list and this is one under that list.
Hope you get some relief soon.

try taking an EFA supplement. The fatty acids might be just the lube you need. Otherwise start doing some more cardio, take some extra fiber or do what I do, smoke. :-P No, don't smoke, but nothing is better at keeping you regular.

Poop!

It has been suggested to use MOM (aka Milk of Magnesia) which is great and will get you started. After that try Aloe Vera capsules. You can get them in the supplement section at wally-world. (Walmart) they work great in keeping things moving.

There must be something in the air around greeting cards, because I swear as soon as I get into a Rite Aid, or place like that I always have to go! I wonder if its the same thing at the Hallmark store?

Aloe vera capsules- the leaf is too strong a laxative, take only one and you'll be cured. For milder cases take the inner leaf's gel in capsule form (or drink it) but then you'll need to take a few and I always add a flax seed oil capsule to that. good luck!

Coffee....

works wonders. I have a cup in the morning and it gets things moving every time. Italians, with their stomach stopping pasta and other delicacies, have the right idea. After a meal, drink a strong espresso and go for a walk. Works every time!

good solution for summer

...papaya seeds.
you only need to eat a couple (you can put them in a smoothie if you don't like the texture)
they contain tons of pectin, a natural laxative

Okay...so nobody yell at me, but on the show House on Fox he once prescribed cigarettes to a guy who was constipated. Of course his character is a jerk and it is a TV show and they are cigarettes and if you do already smoke they're obviously not helping and if you don't smoke you'd be crazy to have one just so you could poop....so this is pretty much just an aside.

ask dr oz

no seriously try super dieters tea but be close to a restroom if you have eaten anything not good for you you may experience intense cramping when it "kicks in". Yogi Tea smooth move is a wonder tea as far as i'm concerned that works in about a day after 3-5 cups. Good luck.

I didn't read the above comments but what I do is drink a large glass of prune juice with a tiny squirt of lemon juice in it. This works for me EVERY time!

A tablespoon of ground flax seed a day will really help. It helps because it's fiber and also because it makes it more comfortable when you have success - if you know what I mean. You can sprinkle it on your cereal every morning, or on your ice cream at night. It's delicious and full of Omega 3's

I love this thread! pretty entertaining for a monday morning. When I am feeling a bit "backed-up" I eat 2-3 prunes before bed and drink a glass of water. by morning I am usually ready to go!!! I try and get a good amount of fiber a day and drink plenty of fluids, but at times it can be hard. I also find that when I take my flax seed oil capsuls on a regualr basis I am also pretty regular. don't know if that's just a coincidence?

Had to laugh at the "greeting card" post. Same thing happens to me while looking in library aisles. It is just like clockwork. Could not believe that others have the same experience. At least I am not alone. Still are there any physiologist out there that can tell us why?

I have a friend who can't go to Office Max or Staples without desperately searching for the bathroom. That link above is a riot.

I don't tend to poop in public but occasionally a good bookstore has caught me by surprise.

7:02 I feel your pain, I have been drinking lots of water and eating fibre rich food, and drinking coffee but I cant seem to "go" as much as I used to I know this is a weird post but why would it suddanly just stop? What else can I do? I dont want to become dependant on laxatives

I think I figured out a couple of years ago what the whole "greeting card/library thing" is related to. For me it's actually shopping, usually in a pharmacy or something similar. You are usually RELAXED! Seriously! I notice that all the time, when I can't go and then I go shopping all of a sudden I have to go!
Now though all of the suggestions you made above don't do squat for me for whatever reason. Cardio? OMG, like I don't do enough of that every day and it does NOT work for me! Coffee does not work for me either all the time! Nor does my fiber intake,,,,ugh....guess I'll have to keep shopping!

Epsom Salts

I'm telling you, this has likely saved my colon on several occasions. I like that it works naturally, too. If you mix up about a tablespoon in a glass of water and drink it, you'll have success some random number of hours later, but you won't have any cramping. it's just a softener, not a stimulant.

A few words of warning, however. I get different results each time I use it. Sometimes it just barely makes it possible to go, other times, I'm really thankful that I'm not too far from a toilet. Of course, I never measure it either. lol It also tastes pretty bad, but the results are totally worth it.

I gotta say, I've never had such experiences with greeting cards, however libraries, book stores, hippy stores that sell incense and such, and occasionally thrift stores do it for me. It's so weird that it happens and I think even weirder that I'm apparently not the only one. I wonder if I could get a grant to study this...
