Gaining weight with changes?
Since New Years I have cut out all soda, junk food, fast food, Starbucks, etc. I have started working out 1 hour cardio every day and weight training program. I have gained 1 lb. What is with this? Any ideas? When will I start to see the scale go down?

Let's say 3 weeks for high confidence that what you see on the scale reflects change in body fat. That's not a scientific number, just a rough guide based on this line of thought:
There's a lot going on all the time that affects your water content... liquid intake, moisture level in "solid" foods, how much water you are currently retaining in the GI tract (some foods may cause you to retain some extra water until digestion is complete, others can be diuretic), sweat, humidity of the air you're in (if you ever do a long desert hike you'll have a chance to learn about that), and one that might especially apply to you now, water retention in the muscles that goes with the recovery process from exercise. These things could easily make several pounds difference, but they all have natural limits and eventually if you are losing body fat (or muscle), that change will add up to more than the water change.
So just keep going as you are for a couple of weeks, and see where you are then.

Good for you OP! That's fantastic - keep it up! You WILL see changes on the scale soon enough - don't be discouraged by those initial weigh ins. You're body is just adjusting to all of the great changes you're making. Heck - my scale will go up 2-3 pounds when I amp up my workout. Even after all this time it freaks me out, but I know it does eventually go the other direction.

Great effoet OP I suggest using a tape measure that often tells the truth weight will follow and the scale will reflect your hard work. It is very common to actually gain weight at the start of a severe change in the body it is your body reacting to it like a safe mechanism b/c it may hang onto everything b/c it feels like it will starve other wise..do not worry your body will now regulate to it's new lifestyle..also drink lots of water b/c your muscles now active are hanging on to it this way you can flush your system out..Good luck keep us posted

Most people experience a 1-2 lb gain when they start using weights. Give it another week and it will drop off along with some fat and inches.

Did you weigh yourself at the same time as last week?
I only do an "official" weigh-in every month. I've struggled so much trying to stay consistent over the years with eating less calories, but just gave up and binged b/c I was so frustrated with the scale. Now since a few months ago, I've accepted that my weight fluctuates so I only weigh-in once a month (of course I still look at the scale lol).
Keep doing what you're doing and you'll see results!
