Weight loss incentives?

A co-worker and I are going to be starting (and re-starting!) our weight loss journey together. We are trying to come up with 'prizes' for ourselves when small goals are met: eg, new Sigg water bottle for 5 lbs., etc.

But I keep coming up with food based ones! Agh! Any ideas?

Strive for Larger Markers

It depends on how much weight you have to lose. If it is over 20lbs, benchmark at 20lb intervals with something you really want i.e. new handbag, new leather jacket, spa day. You will be surprised how much ahrder you will work to reach that goal if it is something you REALLY want.

It is hard to find rewards that aren't food and aren't expensive. Some I use are:

I get to skip housework and read an entire book without guilt.
I get to go tour a greenhouse.
I get to go visit a friend.
I get to take one kid on an icecream cone outing. (oops food)
I get to take an afternoon nap so that when my husband and I go to bed, I can do something besides sleep.
I get to buy myself some really fragrant flowers.

It's alll about giving yourself joy! Just take time out to remember what you love and then make it a reward.

One for me that is a bit bigger is taking watercolor lessons.

How about for each five pounds one person loses the other contributes to that person's 'Spa Fund' or 'New Wardrobe Fund?' It adds a little friendly competition, which may keep it motivating, which, ultimately, would even everything out - assuming you're both able to contribute - (i.e., no one really loses any money.)
