Queen Latifah: sell-out?
She's on deck to be the next mouthpiece for Jenny Craig.
Who will be left as celebrity proof that beauty comes in all sizes, including 20?
Sun. Dec 30, 4:32pm
beauty does come in all sizes, but unfortunately, health does not. if she wishes to lose some weight, that is a good decision for her. going on jenny craig doesn't necessarily mean that she wants to be a size 2. maybe she just wants to be in a healthy weight zone medically.

I agree. I think Valerie Bertinelli looks great, not too thin.
Sunday, December 30, 2007, 6:17 PM
I agree, too. Even if the only motivation is to look better - losing weight will only benefit her heath - and I think that's great. Why would losing weight be selling out? I think if celebs would stop getting plastic surgery and getting the same nose, teeth, lips and boobs we'd see a little more diversity in beauty. :)
Sunday, December 30, 2007, 6:42 PM
I have mixed feelings about this one. I love the way she looks and carries herself. She might just want to lose a little bit, which will be okay too because she will still look great. She may just not "feel" good healthy, ya know? Yes, I do feel like the Jenny Craig stars are a bit of a sell out. Kirstie Alley has always been beautiful, but she now seems so obnoxious on those commercials and just seems stuck on herself. I mean, with all the money she has, personal chefs, not having a forty hour plus work week, who doesn't have time to do what she did? I know Jenny Craig is a little too steep for my budget. Getting it for free for smiling and not having to work would definately allow me some more "me" time.

I think Kirstie Alley just acts obnoxious for the purpose of those commercials. And she makes fun of herself for once being fat. Also, even with all those things they have, it still takes work to lose the weight. You have to watch what you put in your mouth and work out. I mean I just have about 20+ total pounds to lose but it's so hard!!
Sunday, December 30, 2007, 10:22 PM
Even with all the money, being able to have a personal chef and trainer Kirstie Ally still was huge. I for one don't buy that she is what she says she weighs after losing the weight, she still looks pretty hefty to me, like she could stand to lose another 40 pounds or so. Back on the subject, I think the point is that a lot of people struggle to lose weight and need some sort of program/support to make it happen.

Kirstie Alley is 50! Lots of older women give up the idea of losing weight b/c they think they can't. She's proven that you can and she looks great (and no you don't have to dance for 4 hours a day or whatever she did..) And she's always been kind of goofy in a fun way. I actually liked her ads b/c she didn't really hide behind any excuses - she acknowledged that she was fat and that it was because she ate too much! How refreshing!
I think Queen Latifah can do the same for women of color - she'll inspire others. I doubt she'll become this stick of a woman, she'll still look great just in a smaller package.

Kirstie Alley could stand to lose another forty pounds??? What are you thinking? That woman looks awesome.

Go Dana! Go Dana!!
aka Queen Latifah! If girlfriend wants to lose weight I give her my blessings! I believe QL will keep it real... she was probably never a size 10... she'll do all women of any race great diet justice!!! Good Luck Dana Owens! Fellow PT'ers here's to a healthier 2008!

I don't think she's a sellout. I think she realizes that to be a fully healthy person she needs to drop a few pounds. Just losing 10% of her weight will make her risk of heart disease, diabetes, etc. lower.
I do agree though that anyone can lose a lot of weight if they are getting paid to do and to have personal chefs, personal trainers, etc. It's easy to lose it but it's really hard to keep it off. I know this personally.

Not a sellout at all.
Thursday, January 3, 2008, 7:53 PM
She is an amazing woman. I believe that she should do what she believes is right for her. Now if she was doing it just for the money or for some superficial reason then she has lossed all that we look up too. But I say we should let her make her choice and it will all turn out for good in the end. Maybe she will become a new role model for those of us who are trying to lose the wait we need to lose. I will still consider her to be the amazing woman that she always was.

I think it depends:
If she decided to lose weight for her own reasons and sold her public effort to the highest bidder (Weight Watchers, NutriSystem, Jenny Craig, Slimfast, TrimSpa, Dr. 90210, ZoneChef), then she's just a good capitalist.
If Jenny Craig approached her to be their next Celebrity SpokesLoser and that's her #1 source of motivation/inspiration, then she's a sell-out.
Friday, January 4, 2008, 12:51 AM
Either way, does it matter?
Friday, January 4, 2008, 9:42 AM
I am sure it would give her mixed motivation. Certainly she realizes the heathy positives she would gain by losing weight.
Hey why didnt anyone offer to pay me to lose weight. My cubicle life not exciting enough for 'em? LOL
Friday, January 4, 2008, 2:38 PM
I read the only reason she is joining and trying to lose a small amount of wieght is to make people aware of adult onset diabetes. I believe they said someone close to her either died or is ill with this.

I love QL and I love the way she looks and carries herself. I hope she doesn't lose so much weight that she looks freaky (ie Star Jones.) I also like that Jenny Craig doesn't keep their spokes women on a diet so long they look like twigs. They just look healthy.
Friday, January 4, 2008, 7:00 PM
Awww...I think Star Jones looks great.
Friday, January 4, 2008, 7:02 PM
Let's Just Wait and See
Let's just wait and see how QL's commercials are projected. Hell, I'm all for someone trying to stay fit!
Friday, January 4, 2008, 8:02 PM
Star Jones is a freak at any weight. Queen Latifah is cool at any weight. But she has health benefits to be gained by losing a few pounds.
When I hear people say that an overweight person shouldn't lose weight for [insert reason here], I feel like they are just trying to hold on to a reason why they themselves can stay overweight.
Saturday, January 5, 2008, 11:26 AM
11:26 - I agree. To criticize an overweight person for wanting to lose weight, or for actually losing weight, for any reason is odd to me. More power to anyone who wants to lose a few pounds - whether it's vanity or health motivated - they'll still be better off!
Saturday, January 5, 2008, 1:57 PM
Queen likes to eat!
You need not to worry she will be back to eating as soon as the promotion is over.
Saturday, January 5, 2008, 6:31 PM
6:31 yeah you might be right, but she may now incorporate exercise in her diet whereas it doesn't seem she's been doing much of that lately... I applaud anyone who attempts to make any change and I say Go QL!!!! You go girl!!!
Sunday, January 6, 2008, 9:31 AM
I had to laugh out loud when someone posted "Star Jones is a freak at any weight." LMAO, that was funny. She soooo is.
