I need an excercise routine.......Help!
I am 5.4", 175lbs, 40yrs old in July, I just started going to the gym again. I love to workout, but I feel like without a routine of some kind, it's more like "whatever" at the gym.
Thanks everyone!

If you are going to the gym make an appointment with one of the trainers it will be well worth it

I sort of felt the same way when I started the gym...but what I did do...is that my gym had a complimentary session with a trainer, and he and I built a plan together...he showed me which weight training machines to use, and the amount of reps. Also, we talked about cardio, and what my goals were. I hope this helps.

I know what you mean. I kind of spin my wheels at the gym if I don't have a routine.
I'm a big fan of The Abs Diet book. It not only shows every exercise - with and without weights (females, too), but it also gives you a plan depending upon how many days a week you are working out - including cardio.
I'll 3rd the trainer idea, too. Especially if it's free.

If you have found a routine...YAY!
What really helps me, after I've picked the routine, is to listen to the same CD while I workout. When the music stops...I'm done.

About a year ago I started going to the gym to work on the post baby weight. I was about 170 (I'm 5'5). I did a lot of surfing the web and this is what has worked for me based on my research. First I go to the work out room at the gym and do resistance - 3 sets of 12 reps of the following: while holding a 10 lb weight I do lunges (walking across the room), squats, with no weights I do crunches, and girl push ups. Afterwards, I do the treadmill for 30 minutes (I started jogging at 5.0) or eliptical. I do this religiously 2-3 days per week. On the weekends I don't go to the gym, but I try to get walks in. I am now at 148 and I have to say I weigh less now than pre-wedding. What also helped is a friend and I started signing up for 5k runs (3 miles). I always told myself I could not do this - running is for skinny people. I have done 3 5K's in the last year and I see skinny, big, tall, short - all types. There was an 80 yr old lady that passed me up one time. They are fun when you are "training" for a 5k that is your goal - so you don't obsess over the obvious goal of wanting to lose weight. Lots of luck to you.

FreeTrainers.com!!
www.freetrainers.com - you can pick machines/freeweights/mixed, and if you pay the $ for ftPro (it was $25 for a year before) then you can change out exercises you hate for others and add on things. But - the free version still rocks.
