Question for all treadmill owners
I've had my treadmill for about 10 months. I've worked out sporadically. I think it's mostly because I've been bored. It's hard staring at a blank wall. I've listened to music and such, but I'm just plain bored. Do you think if I had a tv to watch that it would help?

Personally, I liked having a mirror in front of me. It let me see the changes in my body. Plus, I had to look myself in the eye which made it harder to wuss out. It was really really motivating. But I'm sure it wouldn't be for everyone.

Actually i like both - something entertaining and a mirror. I don't actually have a TV, but I sometimes I bring over my laptop and set it up in front of the treadmill. Then I watch something streaming online - for example lately I've discovered what everyone else has been onto for quite some time - Dancing with the Stars. Let me tell you watching those guys dance is motivating!
The entertainment is definitely optional - if I have it, great. However if I'm working out really intensely then it just becomes an annoyance, but sometimes it makes a workout go faster. The mirror though - gotta watch that form!

After doing the tv thing I got bored also, I actually read now while I do the treadmill. At first it was hard but after about 4-5 times it got easier. I find that if its a really good book I will go faster and longer.

I just use my iPod which keeps me going. And I also play with the controls constantly. I am always switching from walking to running. Interval training like that can really boost your metabolism anyway. And I frequently adjust the incline. Sometimes I even slow it down and walk backwards with a steep incline. Anything to make it challenging and interesting.
It is so convenient to have a treadmill - especially in the winter when the weather makes it hard to run outside.

I used to read, but I find now that I am running more on the treadmill it makes it too difficult. Now I watch TV. I have a TIVO, though, so there's always something interesting to watch and I can fast forward through the commercials.

We have our treadmill in front of the tv in the basement. I usually walk during the show part and try and jog through the commercials.

The mirror works for me. Not only can you look in your own eyes and WILL yourself to get through certain intervals but you can also SEE your body's progress as the months go on. That and music are essential to sticking with it!

I actually use DVD's I have one called treadmill challenger and a few others that motivate me.

I've also used books on tape - actually on mp3! audible.com has all kinds of books that you can buy and download onto your mp3 player. I find it helps and isn't as repetitive as music. I generally rotate between music, tv, and books on mp3. When I get bored of one, I switch. Somehow I make it to spring when I can be free of the treadmill!
