Help! Going out tonight!

I have been logging my calories all week, but when my friend asked me out to dinner, I forgot all about it. How the heck am I supposed to figure out how many calories are in something in a restaurant? Should I just guess?

Order an appetizer as your main entree and skip the bread basket. If you have to have dessert, have 3 bites. Order a salad before your app, dressing on the side if you're really hungry.

For me, when I go out to eat, I don't worry about portion sizes. I pretty much order whatever I want (well usually not fried foods or cream or whatever-- I don't like that stuff anyway). I usually eat out 1-2 times a week so it's a nice splurge.

Most restaurants always have a chicken dish... so ask for grilled chicken no sauce.. then with a side of steamed veggies hold the butter. And yes, pass on the bread basket. If your friends are ordering an appetizer, ask for a salad to munch on till dinner arrives. And dont forget to ask for low fat dressing. And lastly, have fun with your friends!!!

Im the PP, remember a serving of chicken would be the size of a deck of cards. If there is no grilled chicken then pasta in a light tomato sauce with veggies would be good too. Serving size would be a fistful (about a cup). And if you think you went a bit over your calories.. you can always exercise a bit tonight or tomorrow morning.

OP here--

so can I estimate a fist-size to be a cup? I don't think I want to bring my measuring cups to the restaurant!!

I think it's going to be Chinese food..I thought I would have steamed chicken with vegetables, maybe a little brown rice. Sauce on the side, if there is any. Sound reasonable?
