LA/ Pure Weight Loss Folds w/o Support for its Clients

I am in the middle of my weight loss program with LA Weight loss (recently renamed Pure Weight Loss). You pay for weight loss weeks, go for supportive counseling and buy protein bars that most clients use as sensible between meal snacks. Went last Friday for my weigh in only to find them closing all their centers Jan4- barely got my prepaid bars, and a crappy refund request form to send to corporate. No referral, no support, no guidance just doors closing.
Would love to hear from others who are going through this as well.
Maybe we can form a group to continue using the tools.
It just was a real motivation deflator.

interesting that they are closing. Did they charge for support or meetings? or did they just want to sell protein bars?

i was on it for 3 months when they first opened and DEMANDED my money back. They gave me a written agreement that stated if I ate their bars and followed their plan, i would lose this much weight by that date. When it didn't happen, i got all my money back for the program.

La Weight Loss Program Closing

From what I know it was a reputable program for the last eight years or more. Up to now the worst thing that could be said about them is that they charged a lot of money for 'common sense' advice about how to eat small portions from all the food groups, to reduce fats & carbs, and to not go too long between eating. Clients paid in advance for 'weight loss weeks' which offered visits with counselors who would offer suport, meal planning, weigh ins, problem solving, etc. Then you had to buy their bars for additional cost. There was an internet web support and a place where you could ask their registered dieticians to reformulate favorite recipes to be lower fat/lower carb/lower calories.
I'm not so critical of what they offered, I'm just pissed at how they are ending the program: not notifying clients, their staff being told abruptly during the holidays that they are loosing their jobs, so that they are too upset themselves to be of support to clients.
When taken aback and upset about the center closing, I commented what a hard time this is to be without support for healthy eating, Iwas told angrily by a staff counselor, "You're upset about your eating, I just lost my job".

PP: how rude of them to say that to you! I understand how hard it is to be out of a job, but let's face it, most of the support people there are people who were or are on the program, not registered dieticians. How did they think they were going to do? When I was on the program, I went three months, noting EVERY bite i took whether good or bad, and i didn't lose more than 12 pounds, then 3 months of nothing, they said, "it's because of your thyroid, it's not our plan." I reminded them that I was upfront about having hypothyroid and they still gave me the written agreement and said it wouldn't be an issue.

Not to mention I found their plan extremely picky and not feasable for having children to feed.

Pure weight loss closing:

I agree with you completely. I have been with pure weightloss since march 2007. I have had great success. The bars & supplements are a great help. And I love the vanilla slim down. I do not know what I am going to do now. I think that they should have given us a better notice that they were closing the doors. They should also help us find other products similar to the ones we were using to help us reach our goals and keep us at our goal weight.

Anyone have a subsitute for "take off" juice drink? I am still trying to get into the center to see if they have any left. Of course, the doors were closed today. It is soo terrible. None of the counselors are there anymore...just one person trying to close and handle all of the complaints... sigh

I found another website that also has a bunch of folks doing LA/pure weight loss. www.3fatchicks.com. A lot of them came from centers that closed earlier this year and they have alot of info and substitutes sticky-ed at the top! HTH

Missing LA Weight Loss Products

I also LOVED the LA Take Off Juice, great for days when I didn't get in my fruits, or as a cleanser. The ivillage LA weight Loss site once had a recipe for a homemade alternateive- I think it was mostly a mixture of canteloupe pureed, with OJ and pineapple juice. Please see our LA team.

I joined too. Complete waste of money!!! I am allergic to aspartame and synthetic sugras. I couldn't eat thier products. When they found out they couldn't push any more products they didn't give me support. They would not and did not refund my money.

Anyone received any Refunds?

I thought I could just carry on planning my daily foods by memory, and not using the little journal LA Weight Loss provided- you know filling in the circles, but after a few weeks of not doing it, I find my eating choices, portions size, etc are getting worse and worse little by little. Maybe I have to go back to logging in their book. I have been good about weighing in weekly at my gum though.
How about anyone else?
Anyone heard anything about refunds?

A gal I knew from LA Weight Loss told me that the PURE Weight Loss Centers IN FLORIDA are still open and those who wish can buy products (bars, meal relacement drinks, etc.) from them and pay to have it shipped. I was told they area separate franchise from the ones that closed. They can be searched on the Web
