Why do people gain back all the weight they lost???
This is a phenomenon that truly intrigues me. We feel SO good being lighter and then it turns around and we gain it back. Has happened to me countless times.
WHY does this happen to some of you????

Sometimes people lose too much too fast. Its impossible to sustain, you ruin your metabolism, and then you just end up bingeing from all of the deprivation.

...or like me, people go through some hard times for awhile and lose all motivation to work out and watch what they eat. This recently happened to me and I'm just now, after several months, getting myself somewhat together.

for me, almost everytime I hit a major routine change in my life (job change, vacation, pregnancy etc.), I seem to get off track and can't quite get back the motivation to continue, thus un-doing all my hard work... frustrating!!!

I think it's because people are so impatient to take off the weight and they eat the minimum amount of calories (or less). Then, they can't handle deprivation and then start eating and binging and gain weight. Also, people didn't figure out why the REAL reason behind gaining weight and so when they're emotionally in trouble, they will overeat even if they lost the weight.

The same reason why we gained weight to begin with, we eat too much and don't excerise and after we lose it, we gradually especially around holidays start eating too much again and again and again.......

I'm with 6:42 am. It doesn't have to be a major change for me though, it could be a long weekend away from home that will do me in.
One other interesting reason is that some people can't handle being thin and don't realize that maintenance can be just as hard as losing it.

If you don't deal with the reasons you ate too much to begin with, you will do so again.

Or, you have a baby, and you can no longer get to the gym 4 times a week, and the snow hits early and hard so you can't ride your bike to work anymore (unlike the last 2 years where you were able to ride to work 4 days a week year round) And the added stress from having a baby and being unable to exercise makes you snack more...
At least, that's what I'm going through. When my wife got pregnant, she started eating more, and I started eating more with her. As the pregnancy progressed, She really couldn't get out and run or ride anymore, and so I started running and riding less because I wanted to be with her. Now that we have the baby (greatest baby ever!), I have a hard time getting to the gym like I used to- running for a half hour at the gym takes an hour+ (driving, changing, etc), and I don't feel right taking care of myself at the expense of giving my wife a break after she's been watching the baby all day.
And this year, the snow hit hard and early, leaving the streets in my neighborhood un-runnable and un-ridable.
Basically, having a baby makes exercise a lot harder.
but, that's just me.
