Draining and rinsing canned beans

Does draining and rinsing canned beans reduce the calories? A can of black beans, for example, is about 110 calories per serving. If you rinse them off, I would assume it drains away some of those calories, right?

Draining and rinsing the beans would probably reduce the amount of sodium but would not reduce the number of calories.

rinsing canned beans does not remove any calories-what you are rinsing away is water and salt. You can remove up to 40% of the sodium in a canned food by rinsing it-more if you soak it!

It always looks like some sort of corn starchy liquid, so I always thought there were calories in it....

Wow, I always wondered about that. I hoped it reduced the calories but nice to know it reduces the sodium. Thanks for the info.

I'm pretty sure it reduces the tendency of beans to cause undesireable digestive consequences (i.e. gas).
