mid-afternoon snack

Does anyone have any suggestions for a mid-afternoon snack ? I eat lunch at 12:00 and I'm usually hungry by 2:30 or 3:00. I have a pre-workout snack at 5 (1 slice multigrain bread + organic peanut butter).

But I need a good snack to tie me over from 3:00 to 5:00. I've triedfruit but its not enough and I keep on eating and eating. Also tried almonds + crasins but still not enough.

mid-afternoon snacks

I like to go with a protein because it stays with me longer. I'll have a cup of low-fat cottage cheese, or one of those vending-machine size packages of beef jerky. If those aren't available, I have a handful of organic multi-grain crackers. Yum!

thanks!

Are multigrain crackers enough ?

Its weird I can get from breakfast to lunch with 1 snack.

But not from lunch to my-pre workout snack.

My mid-afternoon snack is usually 1/4 cup of almonds or walnuts. They're good for you!

I just found beef jerky this week and I have to say I am in love. I bought a big bag and seperated it out into snack sized bags so that I can grab and go. It really has worked to curb craving until lunch (my "diet death" happens between 9 and 11 am). If it were available I would reccomend cottage cheese, cheese and deli meat, or even a hard boiled egg. I would eat those if I had a fridge in my room, but I don't, so i opt for jerky because it needs no refridgeration and no heating.

to the PP- you could have any of those things without a fridge if you just use a small icepack and an insulated lunch bag.

OP here - I like that term "diet death". I'd say for me that 2:00 to 5:00. I'm satisfied the rest of the day but for some reason I can't make it through those 3 hours.

Is Beef Jerky high in sodium ? If so I might skip it.

I had baby carrots the other day.. they were pretty filling.

Maybe I'll try deli meat + baby carrots. thanksfor the responses!!

I get really hungry about that time, too. I have an organic pb sandwich, or apple and pb. Or an organic bean and rice burrito. Or a cliff bar.

I say any of these things plus add a cup of tea. Tea makes snack time last longer and always makes me feel more satisfied than just eating a snack.

I second the cottage cheese. I use that or yogurt.

I'd add some protein and/or fat and/or fiber to your lunch. It isn't staying with you very long if a snack like almonds can't get you through the afternoon.

Or perhaps you are eating more out of boredom and habit than hunger? Almonds can be eaten quickly and don't fill you up for another 20-30 minutes after you've stopped eating them. That's why they're so easy to overdo. Maybe something like air-popped popcorn - you can eat a lot of it for few calories, so you'll feel like you're eating more, and for longer. I know that's my problem - I want to mindlessly munch as I sit at my desk.

I've been having those Campbell's "soup at hand" cups the past couple of days. They are 80 calories for the chicken and noodle ones. I would recommend getting the reduced sodium ones. Works for me.

for some reason sugar free jello (1 c) satisfies my midafternoon hunger. usually with a dollop of that whipped cream light in the can (2 T). sometimes I add the sugar free international coffee drink. altogether less than 100 calories. keeps me OK for a couple of hours.

I love beef jerky but I almost never eat it because you're right, it's LOADED with sodium. And nitrates. And other chemical nastiness.
