I'm going to be alone over thanksgiving

I'm thinking about going to a soup kitchen rather than moping around and feeling sad. Has anyone done that?

I think that sounds like a great idea! I've never volunteered at a soup kitchen, but I do know a sure way to combat the blues is to help others. Go for it!

what a fabulous way to help others who are not only alone but cannot join in celebrations that most people complain about and take for granted.

Thank you for helping others during this time of year. I think we should challenge everyone to volunteer just one time during the holiday season. Visit your local nursing home, children's hospitals, Ronald McDonald homes, orphanages, etc.

I think it's a great idea, too. A friend of mine volunteers at a soup kitchen year round and she said there's often a big influx of people wanting to do the Thanksgiving tour of duty. If you find you can't get in anywhere to help, I love the idea of visiting people in a nursing home. You could also bring treats for the residents and/or staff!

I have never done it but have friends who have and found it to be so rewarding that they do it every year, even to the extent that thye have to turn down other offers.

I bet you will feel so much better than staying home. Have fun!
