does the atkins diet trump weight watchers?
Help me out here- a ribeye steak has about 15 weight watcher points. Figure 600 calories, 40-50 grams of fat. whatever the exact figure it is a lot. By weight watchers logic, if you have a rib eye in the course of your day there is no way you are going to lose weight and meet your target points. But atkins approach says you will probably lose weight. And I think atkins is right about this.

The difference is that WW is about teaching you healthy habits for a lifetime, while Atkins is a little weak on the health end. So yeah--you can lose weight on Atkins if you're willing to make the health compromises, but if you're after overall health and not just weight loss, WW is a better bet.
In my considerably informed but nonprofessional opinion, WW and the later phases of South Beach are probably the best demonstrations of overall healthy eating.

I agree with PP. Although even with WW, it is possible to lose weight in an unhealthy way. The first time I was on WW, I just tried to eat things with low points regardless of the ingredients and other nutrition info. Now, I try to eat more naturally, so I don't go for all those lowfat, nonfat stuff that's loaded with chemicals. I try to eat more vegetables, fruits & whole grains. In that direction, I think South Beach Phase II is probably the healthier option. I try to combine WW and South Beach.
