CLA and Green tea = shed the pounds!
I've been doing a lot of research and have been looking for supplements to help lose those last few pounds. I was thinking about buying one of those expensive fat burners. I talked to my trainer and he said I didn't need to take that garbage. All one should do is supplement with tonalin Cla and Green tea extract pills. It's healthy for you and does not make you jittery and it's good for you! Well, I went to walmart and purchased both from the vitamin isle and it's been 4 weeks. I went from 116 lbs to 106! I'm 5'2 116 was alot for me. Just thought I'd share. Look into it. It really works! My husband lost as many pounds in 3 weeks!

what is CLA?
Tuesday, November 20, 2007, 11:20 AM
conjugated linoic acid
Tuesday, November 20, 2007, 11:24 AM
It's a natural occuring substance found in dairy and meat products. Look it up, it has a lot of health benefits but because of the way it breaks down fat quickly it's also being so as a fat burner. It's just a good supplement and works great when combine with green tea pills. Weight just keeps coming off!

Please tell me exactly how it breaks down the fat. I'd like to understand the science.

In a preliminary study, CLA has also been shown to reduce body fat in people who are overweight.
by Mary Shomon
A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study, published in the December 2000 issue of the Journal of Nutrition found that CLA reduces fat and preserves muscle tissue. According to the research project manager, an average reduction of six pounds of body fat was found in the group that took CLA, compared to a placebo group.
The study found that approximately 3.4 grams of CLA per day is the level needed to obtain the beneficial effects of CLA on body fat.
Dr. Michael Pariza, who conducted research on CLA with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, reported in August 2000 to the American Chemical Society that "It doesn't make a big fat cell get little. What it rather does is keep a little fat cell from getting big."
What he found was that when the dieters stopped dieting, and gained back weight, those taking CLA "were more likely to gain muscle and not fat.'' In a separate study conducted at Purdue University in Indiana, CLA was found to help improve insulin levels in about two-thirds of diabetic patients, and moderately reduced the blood glucose level and triglyceride levels, suggesting that it may help to maintain normal insulin levels.
CLA has been the subject of a variety of research in the past several years, and findings also suggest that some of the other benefits of CLA include the following:
May increase metabolic rate -- This would obviously be a positive benefit for promoting normal thyroid function.
May help decrease abdominal fat.
May enhance muscle growth -- Muscle burns fat, which also contributes to increased metabolism, which is useful in weight loss and management.
Helps maintain normal cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Helps maintain normal insulin levels.
Helps make it easier to control weight.
Enhances immune system -- Enhancing the immune system's ability to function properly is a positive benefit.
Just google it. There's tons of good research on it's health properties.
My trainer, his also a registered dietician suggested it and wow! It's natural and great to supplement your diet with.
Plus the green tea pills is just green tea and if it helps shwd some beey fat in a healthy way then why not.
Again, do some looking into it. I asked my doc and she told me she takes it along with her other vitamin, minerals too. lol!
Wednesday, November 21, 2007, 7:13 PM
Can you tell me the regiment for taking these? Do you take them together? Do you take them only once a day or before each meal, etc?
Friday, November 30, 2007, 7:44 AM
you take them twice a day together. I take them with my multi and other supplements all together. It actually healthy for you...get rid of that belly fat. I never thought I'd lose my pouch after having kids but now it's almost totally flat. yay!
Friday, November 30, 2007, 8:31 AM
I'm very interested. Is there a specific brand that you use? How much does it cost? Where did you buy it?
Friday, November 30, 2007, 9:57 AM
I just did some research on CLA and this is what I found:
The most comprehensive study of CLA ever conducted highlights both its promise and its potential downside.
Jean-Michel Gaullier and his co-workers in Norway gave 93 middle-aged, overweight men and women 3.4 grams a day of Tonalin CLA and told them to follow their regular diet and exercise routine. (3)
After one year, the Tonalin takers had lost, on average, five pounds of body fat while similar people who took a placebo gained close to one pound. Most of the fat was lost during the first six months.
But the Tonalin group also had higher levels of leucocytes (white blood cells), which is a sign of inflammation. And they had higher levels of both thrombocytes (blood-clotting cells) and a chemical cousin of LDL ("bad") cholesterol called lipoprotein(a). All point to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke.
"Further studies are needed to determine if there is an effect of CLA on cardiovascular risk and inflammation," concluded Gaullier and his colleagues.
"As of now, the risks are more documented and the benefits are questionable," adds CLA researcher Darshan Kelley of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Western Human Nutrition Research Center at the University of California at Davis.
Our advice: until researchers can show that CLA works and is safe, don't try it.
....So, it doesn't sound all that great to me. I'd rather have 5 extra lbs. than do damage to my body and heart, thanks!
Friday, November 30, 2007, 10:15 AM
CLA doesn't actively burn fat, however it supports the growth and maintenance of lean muscle tissue, so it is good if you do a lot of cardio and are concerned about losing the muscle you are building with resistance. As muscle is more metabollically active this will mean you burn more calories. CLA is not a substitute for working out and eating healthily.
Friday, November 30, 2007, 1:13 PM
How much does it cost?
Friday, November 30, 2007, 1:33 PM
JUST got back from purchasing it. The CLA was $12.98 and the Green Tea Extract was around $10
Friday, November 30, 2007, 2:49 PM
Thanks - How many days will the products you bought last? Is it a month's worth?
Friday, November 30, 2007, 4:19 PM
Yes, I believe there were 60 capsules in the CLA bottle so if you're taking them twice a day it will last you a month. There are 90 in the Green Tea extract I bought.
Friday, November 30, 2007, 5:17 PM
I don't know where poster 10:15 got it's research from but i do know that CLA actually promotes Cardiovascular Health NOT hinders it and it does increase white blood counts, which is not a bad thing as that aids the immune sytem in fighting off infection AND that's why it's recommended to many patients with Diabetes. Furthermore, those in the study were people that were sedentary and didn't follow any diet or exercise program and STILL lost those 5 lbs for just sitting on their butts! If they weren't taking the CLA I bet you they'd be atleast 5 lbs heavier.
It's not harmful, try it out for awhile and see. It is healthy for you as it's not artificial (it's found in dairy and meat products). You dont get enough by just having more milk or meats so the supplement helps with that.
They sell it at Walmart in vitamin section.
If you read any healthy living magazine, you'd see it's mentioned many many times as a great supplement to take along side your Multi. Even registered dietician and physicians sing its praises. You cant make your judgement by 1 random study. Did you make sure that study was done by an accredited institution or from someone in the basement. Keep researching and make sure your findings are up tp date.
I'll take the 5 lbs weight loss for just sitting sround and doing nothing, thank you ver much ;)
Friday, November 30, 2007, 10:56 PM
Ok ya'll, I want to know everyone's progress while implementing your diet w/ the CLA and Green tea, so don't let this thread die. Post your results!!
Sunday, December 2, 2007, 1:24 PM
Very interesting topic, it got my attention. To the original poster, if they are still here, what, if anything, was, or is, your normal or regular workout routain while taking these vitamins? I'm sure this has got to help also if your exercising regularly? No?
Sunday, December 2, 2007, 1:55 PM
OP here.
I've always exercised and train really hard and heavy. I eat very clean but my weight never budged and I thought it was because I was liftting heavier so that those few extra pounds must be muscle. I ask my trainer if I could use a fat burner and he absolutely refused. Said to go the natural route and just supplement with green tea and CLA. Doc also said that was fine so I tried it, and BAM, the weight finally falls off. My training is the same. I run a lot and lift weights 3x a week. I told a girlfriend who runs with me about it and in 30 days she went from a size 29 waist to 27". I just thought I'd share my success with everyone here and see if it works for you.
Monday, December 3, 2007, 1:58 PM
Question: Since I'm vegan, I don't use any kind of animal product. Is this made with gelatin?
Monday, December 3, 2007, 3:45 PM
Yes, the capsule. Plus CLA is derived from dairy and meat products.
Monday, December 3, 2007, 4:20 PM
I just had my DOM recomend the CLA to help with weight loss. I'm gonna try it and see what happens. Anyone having any luck with it?
Saturday, December 15, 2007, 6:07 PM
I've been trying it for the past week and a half and have started noticing the fat in my tummy decreasing little by little. It's not terribly noticeable and I haven't been able to get on a scale recently, so I'm not too sure about weight loss... but I HAVE noticed that after I've taken green tea + cla I stay warm for about 2 hrs afterwards. It's been great at my too-cheap-to-turn-on-the-heat workplace! I definitely feel like I'm burning more calories.
Does anyone know if there's a point when you get desensitized to certain doses of CLA? Will it stop being effective when my body gets too accustomed to it? I'd hate to start putting on a beer belly the minute I stop using it.
Sunday, December 16, 2007, 9:09 PM
I saw 2 different CLA's at the store, I forgot what the 2nd one said but it had something more or something else with the CLA, what are the differences if anyone knows? And which one is the one to take?
Thursday, December 27, 2007, 12:14 PM
After I saw this post about a month ago I purchased the Tonalin CLA. I am taking that with the green tea supplement and I do feel like it's helping. By now normally I would have hit a plateau (16 lbs lost) but so far the scale is still moving downward so it is possible that it's helping!!
Thursday, December 27, 2007, 5:23 PM
Thanks for the info, I'm still looking in.
Friday, December 28, 2007, 12:02 AM
to the OP:
do you just take both pills at once, or do you need to space them out?
and also, i'm just wondering, how much exercise did you do & how many calories did you eat daily?
i really want to try this because i've also hit a plateau & am stuck.
this could finally be the solution to my problem!
could you also tell me what bran the green tea extract pills were?
THANKS!
Friday, January 4, 2008, 9:56 PM
I don't know if you noticed, but in the study the participants are taking 3.4 g of CLA a day. The Tonalin pills are only 1g, so do duplicate the study you'd have to take 4 pills a day.
Saturday, January 5, 2008, 9:43 AM
Thanks for this thread - I am giving this a try for my last 5-10 lbs. One thing I'm worried about: does anything bad happen after you STOP taking the supplements? Does your metabolism slow down/can you gain weight again? (I have no interest in taking pills long term - just not my style, I worry about long term effects, etc.). If so, I'd rather not take them - lose the last lbs the hard way, as I don't want to be "dieting" forever... I'd appreciate anyone's experiences on this!
Sunday, January 6, 2008, 5:39 PM
I'm also started this last week to help me lose the last 5-10lbs since it's been a couple months with barely a budge in my weight. But, I noticed I've been having headaches lately... did anyone else notice that? I'm not sure if it is the green tea & CLA causing it or if I am getting headaches from something else. Please post any side affects you all have noticed.
Sunday, January 6, 2008, 6:13 PM
a little TMI
Only been on for a few days but I have to pee ALL the time (and it's a different kind of pressure on my bladder - pretty intense, when I have to go)
Monday, January 7, 2008, 11:50 AM
are anyone's green tea extract pills in capsules (powder form)?
how do you take them?
do you mix them with food or a drink or just take them in the powder form on their own?
Monday, January 7, 2008, 2:34 PM
mine are capsules - take the, like a normal pill
Monday, January 7, 2008, 5:06 PM
but the capsules pull apart.
the powder is in plastic.
you shouldn't be swallowing that, should you?
Monday, January 7, 2008, 7:42 PM
oh, nevermind.
i didn't realize that the coating disintegrates.
by the way,
how long does it usually take to start seeing results?
i'm not seeing much yet.
but then again, its only been 4 days.
Tuesday, January 8, 2008, 9:41 AM
I drink a good deal of green tea- does that count or do you get a lot more with the capsel?
Tuesday, January 8, 2008, 10:16 AM
You get more with the capsule - if you only drank tea, by the time you get all what a pill has, you'd be all tweaked out from the caffeine (pills have either no caffeine, or at most the amount of caffeine you'd get in 1 cup of tea).

CLA
OK, I read this thread yesterday morning and at lunch I went to the health food store and got CLA 500mg and green tea extract 315. So, I need to take 7 CLA's a day. I will get a capsule with a higher dose after these are gone and I am taking 2 green tea extracts a day. So 3500mg of CLA and 630mg of green tea. We will see. I have heard it all before and am a dedicated diet and exercise person. I never loose a pound unless I don't eat for days at a time. I have hypothyroid. If this works I will be so happy because with a year and a half of 5 times a week workouts and weight training, I feel like a sausage stuffed in my skin. I am extremely strong but can not burn any fat off to get slimmer. Maybe this will be exactly what I need.
Tuesday, January 8, 2008, 3:52 PM
10:16 here
I drink non-caffeinated green tea.
I bought the CLA tonight, but for $15 it is only 10 days worth...
60 pills. "take 2, 3 times a day and hour before meals"
Tuesday, January 8, 2008, 7:01 PM
My accupuncturist had the same story as the 3:52 poster and she swears this did the trick for her. Good luck
Tuesday, January 8, 2008, 8:38 PM
green tea
Just be careful with green tea if you have any heart issues. Last year I was taking One a Day Weight Smart vitamins thinking I was doing my body a favour. I started passing out in the shower, having dizzy spells, and suffered from increased heart palpatations. Went to outpatients, a cardiologist, and wore a holter monitor for 24 hours. Finally figured out it was the green tea extract in the vitamins that was causing the trouble. I'm sure it's fine for most people, but for anyone with tackacardia (not sure of the spelling...) or irregular heart beats, I wouldn't take the chance. No sense being thin if you're putting your heart at risk.

Frequently Asked Questions
by Mary J. Shomon
With all the excitement over Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) and it's proven success in helping reduce body fat and balance blood sugar, I've received hundreds of questions from readers interested in finding out more about CLA.
NOTE: For an introduction to CLA, and how it might be useful to you in your weight loss efforts, see: Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) Supplements May Speed Weight Loss: News Promises New Tool in Weight Loss Battle for People with Hypothyroidism and Underactive Thyroid Conditions.
Is Any Brand of CLA Good to Use?
The simple answer is, no. Different brands have differing amounts of active CLA. The research studies that established the effectiveness of CLA were using a patented form of CLA known as [link url=http://www.tonalin.com]"Tonalin."[/link] Tonalin's patented formula for CLA can be found in a number of brands of CLA, including brands such as Natrol, Jarrow Formulas, and Nature's Way, among others.
Is CLA Safe to Take With My Thyroid Medications?
There's no evidence that CLA, a food supplement, interacts with thyroid medications, or poses any special dangers to thyroid patients. But you should always discuss any supplements you intend to take with your own physician or practitioner before starting.
Is CLA Only for People with Thyroid Problems?
Absolutely not. The studies have shown that it's effective in general for reducing/converting fat. YOu don't have to have a thyroid problem -- you just have to be overweight -- to benefit from CLA.
How Much Should I Take?
The study found that 3.4 grams of CLA was needed in order to get the benefits. That's 3,400 mg. Since the various formulas contain a percentage of other oils as ingredients, it's wise to probably calculate how much each pill is delivering to make sure you're getting the full 3.4 grams a day. For example, if your capsule contains 75% CLA, and it's 1000 mg, then you're getting 750 mg of CLA, and would need 5 per day to get to the 3.4 grams level.
Does CLA Have Soy in It? Should I Take It If It Says It Contains Soy?
Tonalin CLA in the 1000 mg size does not contain any soy or soybean oil. The confusion is because an older version of Natrol's Tonalin CLA did contain soybean oil, but that product has been discontinued. The Drugstore.com website, however, is still carrying the inaccurate information that Natrol Tonalin CLA contains soybean oil. Tonalin's formula contains CLA from safflower oil, and NO soybean oil or soy. Please be advised that some off-brands of CLA may contain soybean oil, or soy products, as fillers, and you would NOT want to take these products.
Where Can I Get CLA?
GNC stores have some products with CLA, and Whole Foods Markets are also reported to have the products. The Tonalin site lists a variety of stores that sell products containing Tonalin CLA.
Online, you can get Natrol's Tonalin CLA -- the brand I personally take -- as well as many other brands, at popular retailers like Drugstore.com and Iherb.com.
How Should I Take It?
The various recommendations differ here. Some recommendations suggest to take it before eating. Others suggest to take it with meals. The Natrol web page for their Tonalin CLA product says to take it preferably with lowfat or nonfat milk for maximum protein absorption. Personally, I'm taking it right before I eat with some 2% milk.
Does CLA Have Any Side Effects?
Some people report feeling slightly green or nauseous after taking their CLA, or isolated cases of gastrointestinal upset or loose stools. These side effects typically are reduced when the product is taken with protein (i.e.,with milk), and usually decrease after about 2 weeks taking the supplement.

Accupuncturist on CLA
Thanks for the well wishes. I am happy to hear it worked for your friend. I was wondering how long it took the accupuncturist to see results. I am also wondering how long it took you to notice his/her results? This is the 3:52 poster from yesterday btw!
Wednesday, January 9, 2008, 3:51 PM
OP THANK YOU !!
I am going out and getting both today, I am in the same boat as you - work out hard with cardio, and weights and NOTHING. Weight stays the same for months, even with VERY healthy eating. Looking forward to this!!!

CLA 3:52
Good Luck. PLease let me know how it works for you. My next official weigh in is 1/15. I will let you know if any thing changes. Get a higher dose then 500MG. 7 pills a day is a lot to swallow. (get it swallow! that was a pun)
Thursday, January 10, 2008, 9:45 AM
Okay I am a new member of this...I bought the Tonalin-1000 CLA and it say 2 pills twice a day..That is the right amount or not? Have my green tea pills too. Started this am...not sure if it's in my head or not but I feel full. I am tired today so maybe that is why...I just don't want to eat. But I am willing to try it out. I have lost a lot w/exercise and changing my food intake, but now I am stuck at the same weight I hope this pushes me on...Thanks for the help! Original poster how long have you been taking these and what is your total loss so far? I know everyones body is different just wondering. Thank you!
Thursday, January 10, 2008, 12:50 PM
You want to take at least 3.4g of CLA a day. Read the label, but usually a 1000 mg capsule has only 780 mg of pure CLA, therefore you'll need to take 5/day. I just started this 5 days ago, so we'll see, but I'm also a big exerciser, and haven't seen much improvement. I've cut calls (to 1400/day) and added CLA to my regimen, as well as green tea (no idea how much EGCG we are supposed to be taking, tho - I'm just taking 2/day as the label directs - I've read that these supplements may burden the liver so I'm concerned about taking so much - is 500mg (1g/day) enough?).
Thursday, January 10, 2008, 12:58 PM
Ok I've Started Today
I got the tonlin of 1200mg / capsul, supposed to take 3x /day, and green tea twice a day. Lets see how it goes.
Thursday, January 10, 2008, 3:38 PM
how much green tea is enough? I take the multi with it twice a day plus drink it throughout the day..
Thursday, January 10, 2008, 3:51 PM
what kind of results is everyone seeing?
i want to know how long i should be waiting to start seeing some improvement.
Thursday, January 10, 2008, 8:43 PM
I just picked some CLA up today, and I'm going to combine it with the green tea capsules I already take. If you want to follow my progress, I'll talk about it on my public log. dream87
Thursday, January 10, 2008, 9:33 PM
CLA 3:52
I don't know how much green tea is enough. I am taking 630mg a day. So, it has only been a few days for me and I am wondering how everybody who's been onthe CLAfor overa week or two is doing. Come on people.I would like tohave a little good news to look forward too.
Friday, January 11, 2008, 12:02 PM
Not sure if it's in my head or not, but I have no feeling of being hungry at all. My stomach fills as if a brick is sitting in it. I take 2 CLA in the am w/the 2 green tea and the same at lunch. So now to wait and see...someone said the amount may not be enough for me but at this point I feel full so I don't see the need to move up the amount.
How many of you have been on for more than a week?
Friday, January 11, 2008, 2:16 PM
CLA 3:25
I have seen a lot of the same question being asked. Can sombody please answer some of them?
Friday, January 11, 2008, 4:03 PM
I've been on for a little over a week. 5 CLAs/day (about 4g pure CLA) and 1g (2 capsules) of green tea/day. A few questions that are still unanswered are mine! So I hope folks w/ experience do lob in some answers.
I hate to say this, but I've actually gained 2 lbs on this stuff. But am not bigger. I work out 6 days a week and control my eating - 1400 cals/day most days, so I *should* be losing ~1.5 lbs/week. FYI, I'm on the last 5-10 lbs of my diet. Hoping things turnaround!
Saturday, January 12, 2008, 10:13 AM
As far as the questions on the effectiveness of CLA, unless some of the people who are currently taking this (I am but I'm less than a week in) want to come share their results, I think you might want to talk to your doctor, nutritionist or personal trainer to see what they have to say about it. When I bought mine at GNC (Tonalin CLA for about $20) the guy who was of course in great shape said it helped him trim fat off his abs. Of course he's not a doctor and he works for them, but they don't work on commission and I was already at the counter with its so its not like he was trying to make a sale.
I don't think anyone should expect CLA or the green tea/CLA combo to be a miracle weight loss drug because if it was I feel like there would be a lot more buzz in the media. But I do think there is truth to its ability to create more lean muscle based on the scientific studies you can find online and in this thread. That's cool with me! Worth a try. But after I use my bottle up I probably won't continue to take it just because I am wary of taking any kind of non-FDA approved supplement for a long period of time.
Sunday, January 13, 2008, 1:09 AM
CLA 3:52
Tomorrow will be officially 1 week on the CLA green tea combo. I have been doing my regular work outs, having my weekend cocktails and pretty much the only thing I have changed has been adding these supplements. I weigh in tomorrow morning. So, I will let you know if there is any difference.
Monday, January 14, 2008, 11:15 AM
10:13 here
I've been on CLA (& green tea) for 10 days now, first 5 days I took the dosage on the bottle (3/day), 2nd 5 days I upped it to 5/day (therefore over the 3.4g study threshold). As mentioned before, weight went up by a few pounds but as of today it's started coming down again. I workout HARD 6 days/week, taking in 1400-1700 cals/day - usually this works out to a 1.5 lb/week loss in weight but not since I've been taking CLA. HOWEVER, today the scale had me down 1% of body fat. Will continue forging on & will report back with updates.
Monday, January 14, 2008, 11:47 AM
PP Thanks for sharing!!
I have been on for a week. No weight change but I feel stronger..
Monday, January 14, 2008, 11:55 AM
CLA 3:52
I looked at my side view in the mirror this morning and noticed my little back fat roll looking less noticeable. As I previously stated I have hypothyroid and this is a combination that is supposed to be specifically helpful for people in my situation. Healthy lifestyle but inability to shed fat. I am hopeful. I am anxious to see my weigh in tomorrow. My Hubby hides my scale so I don't drive myself crazy or I would weigh in everyday and probably drive him crazy too.
Monday, January 14, 2008, 12:13 PM
Did anyone else breakout?
My skin is usually GREAT, I get the occasional pimple once evry 6 months or so, but I got 2 on my chin 4 days into the regime - anyone else?
Monday, January 14, 2008, 12:54 PM
CLA 3:52
No, no skin problems to speak of. The regular exercise and less fatty diet has done wonders for my skin. Has anything else changed?Soap, detergent, lotion, altitude?
Monday, January 14, 2008, 3:30 PM
I've been doing the CLA and green tea for about a month now. No real results in the weight loss but found out I wasn't initially taking the right dosage. Just recently changed it so I'll know more next week. I do however SEE the muscle changes in my back, legs and arms. Going to stick with it to see if I see the results on the scale too. It's worth a shot and gives me some encouragement.
Monday, January 14, 2008, 6:22 PM
CLA 3:52
One week on the CLA. Looks like I have lost 4 pounds. Much the same as the previous poster, I see more definition in my arms and legs. However, please be aware I workout 5 days a week. I have been doing The Firm Firmation Series and I am starting week 4 tomorrow. So that can take a lot of credit for the changes in my body. I am not giving up the CLA though.
1/8/08=193.6

PP - thanks. Are you male or female? How much weight do you feel you need to lose? (10:13/11.47 here - just trying to figure out if CLA could make more of an impact if you need to lose more or less weight. FYI, I am on my last 5-10 lbs...)
Thanks everyone for posting their experiences! I am committed to staying on CLA/GT for at least a month (although I found a good deal on both on Vitacost.com so I'll actually have enough on hand to keep me going for a number of months if I end up being a believer...!)
Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 1:54 PM
10:13/11.47 here again - by the way, I'm female. 136.8 lbs this a.m.

CLA 3:52
I am female, 5'8" and will be 39 on Sunday. I am trying to get down to 165. Any more weight lost then that would be a treat but I figure 10 pounds more then I weighed in high school will be just fine.

Not feeling well
First to quit! ? WELL I have been on the combo of CLA/Green tea for only 4 days and my stomach feels terrible I feel like I have the flu, didn't take today and I feel fine again. I have tried with food, can't drink milk and have tried it w/breakfast- lunch and lunch-dinner neither way works. I start to feel better and then I have to take again and feel really sick....ideas?
Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 3:18 PM
Bummer! The CLA hasn't affected me, no matter how I take it (although directions are w/ food), but I notice the GT can leave me a bit sick to my stomach (I take as directed on an empty stomach). Perhaps you can try just going to CLA? It's still supposed to be good for you - the GT just supposedly intensifies effects.
Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 4:29 PM
Keep the results coming...
....hope those of you who started it recently will keep the results coming! I'd like to see a strong record of it working for a month before I start it...

CLA 3:52
I haven't had any adverse side effects, that I know of. I feel pretty good actually.
Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 10:33 AM
I too would like to hear more success stories.
Otherwise after my $35 bottle runs out i am done. I havent seen any affects yet and i have been at it for a week..

cla/green tea
I have several half-full bottles of cla, because I'll get on a kick about using it, then I'll stop, so I can't honestly say if it's ever helped me. after reading all of these threads (I'm brand new here) I think I'll give it a try for a longer period now. Also, regarding green tea...... I recently purchased some liquid green tea extract that you add to 16 oz of water.... it has no caffeine, no sugar... I got the peach flavored and the raspberry flavored.... I had the peach one last year and it was good, but then I forgot about it. Green tea is supposed to not only help with weight maintenance, but also with helping with younger looking skin and free radical damage and other stuff like that. Hitting the big 4-0 this year, and promised myself to be 'Forty, Fit, and Fabulous'..... I've only got 5 months to go, so I guess I'd best get moving on the plan!!!
Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 11:33 AM
I wonder ...
Do you think that the OP MIGHT work for one of the manufacturers of CLA?

CLA 3:52
The poster who asked about breaking out. I previously wrote I haven't had any problems. Well, I woke up today with 4 new pimples! Like I said I am 39 on Sunday. The occasional pimple every few months sure. But, 4 this morning. I don't know if that is stress related or my diet changes have affected me but, I do know that normally when I work out as regularly as I have been my skin seems clearer. So maybe it is the CLA.
Thursday, January 17, 2008, 11:18 AM
10:13/11.47
I haven't had any skin problems. Now on day 13 of CLA & GT and the scale began totally shifting down yesterday and continued today, and I can tell I'm looking more toned.
I doubt of OP is a mfr, esp. as she didn't name the brand of CLA (there's more than just Tonalin out there), plus when I was researching this & green tea, few to none mfrs make both CLA and GT supplements. I know it's so easy to be jaded here, but I think this was just someone trying to be helpful without personal gain (refreshing these days, eh?).
Thursday, January 17, 2008, 11:28 AM
Happy Birthday!!
Thursday, January 17, 2008, 11:28 AM
Hold on.... stick with it. I'm not the original poster and I said I would update soon as I had seen more muscle tone. Well after almost 3 weeks of no results on the scale this morning I had a two pound drop. Is it because of the CLA/Green tea? Who knows but in case it is, I'm sticking with it! Keep in mind I just figured out the right dosage about two weeks ago.
Also, just to chime in on the skin thing. (good Lord I don't want to jinx myself) but I have had acne issues for about 3 years now (am 38 yrs old) and have had none in the last 3 mos so I really don't think the skin issue is due to the CLA because if anyone would be affected, believe me it would be me and right now my skin is CLEAR!
Thursday, January 17, 2008, 2:31 PM
My skin is good. maybe there are other changes in your diet and lifestyle that are brining it on.
Thursday, January 17, 2008, 3:03 PM
Thanks for the update everyone ! I am pimple girl
Well the 2 pimples that I had invited 2 friends over - all on my chin. Unfortunatly I have had to stop due to some other health issues which COULD have caused the breakout, but I will be getting back on it.
Love hearing about the updates, keep them coming. PLEASE
Thursday, January 17, 2008, 6:58 PM
CLA 3:52
Yeah, I am the 4 pimples gone with a little help from cearasil. I have had a lot going on lately so it was probably stress. Strange weather here too in the South East. Anyway, about the CLA, my husband actually commented on the fact that I am looking 'smaller' as he put it. So along with the working out, I guess it is paying off. I definitely feel a smallerand my measurements arean inch down on each thigh and my waist. So, not too shabby.
I hope the discussion about who is a CLA dealer isn't directed toward me in some way. I don't want to sell you anything. I just want to know what to expect, not waste my money and get and give support, to people like me who are struggling but hopeful.
Friday, January 18, 2008, 1:40 PM
I've been reading this particular thread and was very curious about the CLA. Being a vegan, however, I didn't think I could use it. But, I did do a google search and found a vegan CLA. So, I'm thinking about giving it a try.
Thanks; just thought I'd mention it in case there were any other vegetarians reading this particular thread.
Friday, January 18, 2008, 4:19 PM
CLA 3:52
So far all ofthe CLA tablets and websites I looked at said that CLA contains Safflower or Soy oil. I don't know how vegan that is but it does not sound beefy.

4:19 person here
The ones I saw all had gelatin in them.
Friday, January 18, 2008, 5:57 PM
yeah - you need to find one that doesn't use gelatine as the casing. If you do, make sure it's the tonalin kind of CLA, though (more studies & success with this one vs. others, in my research)
Friday, January 18, 2008, 9:49 PM
Good thread thanks
going to try it

CLA 3:52
Is gelatin not vegan? I might be silly but I remember when I was little they used to say jello was made from horse hooves.
Saturday, January 19, 2008, 4:51 PM
Yes - gelatin is made from hooves. Still (crazy, eh)? More likely from cows, though, not horses! I try not to think about this as I love sugar free jello!
Sunday, January 20, 2008, 4:25 PM
CLA 3:52
That is just crazy! Cow hooves are very delicious! Who'd a thunk it? Anyway, for all of those tracking, I had a Birthday this weekend and I ate cake, ice cream, chips, burgers, hot dogs, candy, snacks and cocktails galore! I missed 1 workout.

Questions
Hi! I am new here and am interested in finding a supplement combo that is effective for wieght loss. I gained 25 pounds in the last year being on an antidepressant and so I stopped taking it recently. I have actually gained even more weight! My question is I also see other combos with cla are supposed to work and was wondering if anyone has tried anything other than green tea with cla and had success? I have seen studies that say cla, omega 3 fish oil and vitamin e are supposed to rev up metabolism.
Also, I have the same question as alot of other people...how much green tea is supposed to be taken to be effective?
Wednesday, January 23, 2008, 9:32 AM
PP, I recommend you start a new thread with this question. This one is dedicated to CLA & GT and we're all new to it so what you see here is everything we've got so far.
Wednesday, January 23, 2008, 12:06 PM
CLA 3:52
I got Natures Way Max 1300mg of CLA. They have at least 80% CLA and I figure with the 3900mg a day I am definitely getting my days worth. There are 90 rather large gel caps in the bottle and they cost $29. Safflower oil is the derivitive base.I grabbed them at my local Health Way store.
I am taking 2, 315mg of Green tea extract CVS pharmacy brand twice a day. However, I drink Arizona diet Green Tea all day long. I have for years. I just love the stuff!

CLA 3:52
It's been a whilenow. Anybody have any new results one way or the other?
Thursday, January 24, 2008, 3:27 PM
I haven't seen any real results but I also forget to take it regularly. Some days I forget my second dose (I take 4 capsules a day of Tonalin CLA to add up to 3.4 mg of CLA) or sometimes I forget to take it altogether. I am going to try to get back on track because, after all, I already paid for it!
Thursday, January 24, 2008, 4:14 PM
CLA 3:52
I carry a small bottle in my bag and in it I have a few Green Tea and CLA tablets. That way if I have forgotten, as soon as I remember, I can take them. The 29th will be 3 weeks on the mixture for me. Apparently the results are not really all that evident until a month. My Hubby says I look slimmer. He points out where he can notice it. Remember, I am still doing The Firm 5 to 6 days a week and trying to watch my diet. But, I have been seeing so little downward scale motion that anything would be appreciated.
Thursday, January 24, 2008, 4:24 PM
10:13 checking in
3 weeks will be tomorrow for me - the first ~6 days I was only taking 3 pills, since then it's been 5 (so I'm taking in >3.4G/day) and I've been consistent with this as well as 2 GTs/day. Little to no change on the scale for the last 3 weeks (although on the few ocassions when I take in more cals than a usual diet day - which would be 1400-1700 cals - I quickly pop up 2 lbs. Annoying!) I know I'm looking better even though the scale isn't moving... but I'm also working out 5-6 days/wk HARD (at least an hour at a time with high resistance for cardio and strength exercises) and I'm keeping on plan for cals, so I don't know if it's me on my diet or the CLA that's doing this. As CLA 3:52 mentioned, it often takes 1-2 MONTHS to see an impact. I'm hanging in there, as I bought a boatload of this stuff... although I'd like to get off GT soon (well, by the 2 month mark - I bought loads of this, too!), as I think my liver feels a bit inflamed... and unsure it's doing anything anyway (no impact to appetite or alertness as I got a low caffeine version - I have sleep issues as it is). I measure myself in 2 weeks and hope I can report back good news on that front since the scale isn't showing much improvement (even though I should be losing 1-2lbs/wk based on my exercise and food habits the last several weeks).
Friday, January 25, 2008, 12:59 AM
CLA 3:52
12:59-Yep, me too. I should be losing 1 to 2 pounds a week. I am right on the track with you on the diet and exercise, still not much change in the scale. I have this little 5 pound window I am stuck in. My measurements I run every 2 weeks and they are down an inch on each thigh and 1 inch around my waist since Christmas.
Friday, January 25, 2008, 8:43 AM
10:13
Having gotten on the scale this a.m, I'm down 0.8 lbs from yesterday. Crazy.
CLA 3:52 - have your measurments changed since being on CLA?
Either way, keep plugging along on your diet as usual - great job!
Friday, January 25, 2008, 11:36 AM
10:13
oops, I meant to say I'm down *1.8* lbs from yesterday! Weird.
By the way, for those interested, I've not noticed any material negative side effects from these supplements (I say "material" as I suspect the GT is not good for the liver - too much to process per day? which is why I plan to go off it when I run out of pills, and this is TMI, but I have been gassier (sp??) since taking the supplements) but overall my mood is good and I feel good physically. No change to hunger levels or physical endurance either way.
Friday, January 25, 2008, 11:57 AM
CLA 3:52
1.8 That is great! I didn't mean to sound like Tony the Tiger there. The measurements were since the CLA.
Friday, January 25, 2008, 1:29 PM
CLA 3:52
Weighed in today and I am 190.8 That is 5 pounds less then last weeks posting. I have not taken my measurements recently. But 2/8 will be officially 1 month on the CLA and I have been faithful. So we will see next week what is the what!
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 10:55 AM
Nice job!! (10:13 here) I am looking pretty good - very firm all over, although the scale is making less of a statement (my official weigh in day isn't for another couple of days, though, so I'll check back).
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 11:06 AM
CLA 3:52
10:13-The firmness! It is like a small gift! I was carrying a hamper of clothes down the steps yesterday and I smiled at my own arm! That was cool. So, if the CLA doesn't help with the weight loss and only makes it so I smile at my own body again it will be worth swallowing every one of those giant pills!
I am anxious to hear how you do on your next weigh in! Good Luck!
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 7:48 PM
For green the supplement users:
http://www.thatsfit.com/2007/05/07/how-much-green-tea-is-too-much/
A lot of supplement users get too much green tea, so please research how much you're ingesting and how much is too much!
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 1:37 AM
I have been on the CLA and Green Tea combo for a couple of weeks........
Is anyone else having really vivid dreams?
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 12:52 PM
Yes, about the dreams.
Thursday, January 31, 2008, 10:10 AM
10:30 here
Um, maybe. Not vivid-scary, but I am really remembering my dreams more than I did before. That's a weird one! (Tonalin should be paying us for this, ha ha.)
Thursday, January 31, 2008, 10:02 PM
I mean, 10:13!
Too tired when I wrote that post last night. Anyway, just checking in as today makes it 4 weeks since I started taking CLA & GT. Scale is exactly the same as 1 week ago (133.6) although it's been jumping all over the map (Wednesday it was 137.6!). But I definitely am looking better - leaner jawline, shoulders, abs (although I don't think my waist has shrunk much) and posterior is looking more muscular. Next week is when I do my monthly measuring, so hopefully there's more impact reflected there.
Initial reactions after 1 month of these supplements: don't seem to be hurting, but the lbs are definitely *not* just flying off. I read some reviews on CLA that said you start seeing more results after 2 months, so I guess we'll see if that's true...

Tolin With CLA
Today is Friday and I started to take these pills on Tuesday. As of this morning I have lost 3 pounds. I am so happy, I could cry! I have been going to the doctor for about a year now telling him something is wrong with me. I could NOT lose weight, no matter how hard I tried. Ate around 1450 calories/day, and exsercised 5-6 days/week and not one pound came off. This happened for a year! My doctor did every test (we already knew I had hypothyroidism) and every test came back fine. The doc was starting to treat me like I was lying to him....like I was really not working out or eating right.
Tired of beating myself up everday, I went into GNC with tears in my eyes (literally) saying I need help. I need something...she gave me their capsules with Tolin CLA which includes green tea in them. My workouts are amazing now, they have not changed but now I sweat. WOW! 3 pounds in 4 days is amazing to me, I would be happy to lose 1 pound a week after not being able to lose anything. The pills at GNC cost me about $24 which I have said already have everything in 1 pill, so no taking different pills. Just a thought! Good luck e1!

Friday, February 1, 2008, 1:04 PM
since there are no stores near me where i can get the green tea or CLA pills.. does anyone know of a good site that offers these products for cheap with the right kind of dosage (I don't want to take like 10 day.. preferably 2 or 3.. lol)
Is one brand better then another? Thanks!
Friday, February 1, 2008, 1:46 PM
vitacost.com is usually cheapest. Be sure to get CLA by *Tonalin* (there are many brands that offer this but make sure it's Tonalin's formulation of CLA). Lots of GT options. There are reviews for most, if not all, the supplements on this site. I had a great experience w/ them.
Friday, February 1, 2008, 2:34 PM
question for 1:04 ("Tolin With CLA")
Congratulations on your recent progress! I assume you mean Tonalin, not Tolin? Can you please share the exact name of the product you are taking? I don't see a CLA product on GNC's site that includes green tea...
Thanks!
Friday, February 1, 2008, 2:38 PM
Thanks for this information OP. I am in the process of losing a lot of weight. I am 5'1 and I think 117 will be a good weight for me. I will see once I get there. I bought my Tonalin CLA and Green Tea pills today from Walmart. I have 90 Green Tea and 60 CLA. I appreciate this thread because I am interested in natural ways to boost my weight loss. I will keep you posted on my progress.

7:08 Back with day one results
I don't know if my mind is playing tricks on me, but I feel awesome. I came home from the gym and after a long hot bubble bath, I wanted to workout again. I am usually starving when I am done working out, but I had to make myself eat dinner tonight. I will post more results next week. :) I am happy so far, and I don't think I will stop taking these supplements. Thanks again OP!
Tuesday, February 5, 2008, 4:10 AM
One pound in 2 days!
I just started taking the combo on Monday, and I have already lost 1 pound. I am very excited about this. I notice that I sweat more at the gym and I am regular once again. :) This is so great, thanks OP!
Wednesday, February 6, 2008, 9:30 PM
3 POUNDS SINCE MONDAY!
I know that I am the only one that has recently been updating results on this thread, but I am so excited about this. I am down another 2 pounds today! This is so awesome because I don't feel like I used to when I was taking diet pills. Finally, an all natural way to shed extra pounds. I am so grateful for this knowledge. Thanks OP!
Thursday, February 7, 2008, 9:06 PM
I just ordered the vegetarian formula (powder form), and I'm curious to see how it will affect me. Good post.
Friday, February 8, 2008, 11:40 AM
CLA 3:52
I have been on these supplements for a month officially today. According to the research, results are not seen until 1 month typically. So, at the one month point, I have more energy but I think that is due to the added caffeine in the green tea. I think my arms look firmer but, I have been lifting weights. Really in all honesty. The inch on each thigh and the inch around my waist I would have lost by working out anyway. The supplements at this point have been a big waste of money. I won't buy anymore once these are gone. I feel like I have been duped just like with every other wonder supplement. The only thing that did it's job as far as I am concerned was the original Metabolife with Ephedra. Now that this has been off the market for a few years I have been looking for its equal to no avail.
Friday, February 8, 2008, 12:06 PM
10:13 here
I've now been on this combo for 5 weeks today. I work out like crazy (1 hr plus hard cardio at least 5 days a week plus at least 2 days of lifting weights) and take int 1400 cals/day 5 days a week - and 2100 2 days a week (should result in weight loss of at least 1lb per week). My weight is exactly the same as it was 1 month ago. My measurements are almost exactly the same - very slight improvement to extremities (which should come from my regular diet & exercise activity) but literally no change to waist, 'muffin top', butt, etc. I'm committed to another month on this stuff but am having sentiments much like 3:52 above.
Friday, February 8, 2008, 12:17 PM
CLA 3:52
10:13- Real bummer huh? We were both so positive and hopeful at the start. Just to be let down again. The search continues!
Friday, February 8, 2008, 1:00 PM
3:52 go to a website called LOOKING TRIM, they are still selling Ephedra. I was taking them and now how you feel, they were the only thing that worked for me. Anyway, you can find the Ephedra equivalent on that site. Good luck.
PS- I know this post won't be popular but I don't need any feedback, just trying to help out 3:52 ....
Friday, February 8, 2008, 2:42 PM
10:13 again
I agree that ephedra does work... but I know when i was on it years ago, I was a FREAK - very NOT nice to my DH, so irritable... and I ended up building bad habits from it (less gym time, more McDonald's time, I am not kidding). Personally, I'm trying to get through these last lbs in a way that I will find easier to maintain. And will keep my marriage happy and my body healthy. (I won't judge but please be careful w/ Ephedra - there's a reason it was taken off the market).
As I mentioned, I'm sticking w/ CLA & GT for at least another 3-4 weeks so stay tuned if you're interested in seeing if it actually does something for me by then (I don't think it will do harm in that time plus I have a TON of these supplements since I bought them in bulk, so what the heck). I'll continue to post at least once per week (Thursdays and or Fridays). Cheers!
Saturday, February 9, 2008, 1:49 AM
7:08 POSTER HERE
I have been posting my results on this thread since Monday 2/4/08. I changed my eating habits back in December and started working out. The weight was coming off, but not as fast as I needed to stay motivated. The Green Tea pills that I bought from Walmart have EGCG in them. They are packaged in a rather large box labeled Green Tea on top (GREEN BACKGROUND) and Fat Burner on the bottom (RED BACKGROUND) 90 FAST-ACTING LIQUID SOFT-GELS. I am not sure if that is the reason why the combo is working wonders for me, but I am happy. I haven't weighed in 2 days and I was down 3 pounds then. I will post my weight next week. It doesn't tell me the brand name, but there is a website www.AppliedNutrition.com
Hope this helps :)
Saturday, February 9, 2008, 2:30 AM
7:08 AGAIN
I just left the website and I have to say that it isn't that informative. My box looks nothing like the one pictured. I clicked on buy online and looked at CVS.com. They have the exact box like mine, but it is a little more expensive there. I only paid $10.98 at Walmart. CVS wants $15.99. Not a huge difference but I am frugal. :)
Saturday, February 9, 2008, 2:41 AM
Thanks, 7:08. I'll check it out. How much CLA are you taking per day (3 pills as on the package, or more?) Thanks!
Saturday, February 9, 2008, 12:13 PM
Sorry, another question for you 7:08 - any trouble sleeping at night (do you take one or two green teas in the afternoon)? I looked into the supplements you're taking and each pill has 120 mg of caffeine (a little more than a cup of coffee) and i see you're supposed to take 3-4 per day. I'm afraid I'd be too wired! Lots of other thermogenic ingredients in there which seem to be working for you (I'm so glad this is helping you!)
Saturday, February 9, 2008, 12:25 PM
7:08 HERE
Yes, I am up pretty late at night. I try to take them as early in the day as possible. If I can get 2 in at breakfast and another 2 at lunch, I can go to sleep at a decent hour. If not, I am up until the wee hours of the morning.
I take 4 CLA per day. 2 in the morning with the Green Tea and 2 at lunch with the Green Tea.

CLA 3:52
Thanks for the tip on the Epedra. I have tried other Ephedra supplements but they just gave me headaches. Nothing worked liked Metabolife. I also agree with the other poster that they were taken off hte market for a reason. I am sticking with the CLA until I run out. if I don't see anything that wasn't achieved through work out and diet alone. Anything I might see as a little extra boost, I am done with it. But thanks everyone for the insightful postings.
Saturday, February 9, 2008, 9:27 PM
cla and Green tea
what i have noticed most is that it has suppressed my appetite, finding i don't need that secong portion for dinner, i feel this is huge when it comes to my weight loss. Also i only get 4 hours of cardio a week and been taking for 2 weeks and i definately have noticed my beer gutski tightening. I will post again in weeks to come with results

NOT TRUE
SAVE YOUR MONEY! DON'T EVEN BOTHER!
After well into the second month, nothing extra, zip, nada, except the slimming up of my pocket book. Just another crock of crap to keep the diet and supplement idustries in big bucks. Trust me, please, don't believe the hype. Or if you haven't noticed in the straight media, lack there of. No legitimate news source would cover this craziness.
Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 1:51 PM
10:13
I hate to say it but I am with the PP on this one. Save your bucks.
Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 5:28 PM
I agree with the last 2.
Thursday, February 21, 2008, 3:52 PM
I'll agree with you on the weight loss but I stopped taking the CLA for the last 3 weeks because I ran out and haven't been able to pick up more and have noticed the firmness I had gained is going away. So... there is something to be said about it being good for body composition.
Thursday, February 21, 2008, 3:56 PM
I will continue to take it because it is working for me. The only thing about the Green Tea pills that I don't like is they keep me awake at night. Other than that, the pounds are continuously coming off. I am now under 200lbs. which is a great feeling for me. Do you ladies workout with the combo or do you just hope that the pounds will fall off on their own?
Thursday, February 21, 2008, 7:12 PM
10:13 here
To the PP: I work out hard, with a heart rate monitor (therefore I am sure to stay within my target zone) 6 days a week, doing a combo of weight training and cardio. I also am on a reduced calorie and fat, high fiber diet. So I am certainly not "hoping the pounds will fall off". I weigh 135 lbs and would like to be at 128. The combo of green tea & CLA has done nothing for me.
Thursday, February 21, 2008, 10:54 PM
I work out 5 days a week, aerobics and weight training. I also eat under 1200 calories a day every day. No I am not just crossing my fingers and hoping for a miracle. The combo didn't work for me.
Friday, February 22, 2008, 10:28 AM
Okay, I think that I know what the problem is. I did a little research on this combo and I read that it works for extremely overweight people. I see that you only have a few pounds to lose and that is probably why it did not work for you. I had 100 pounds to lose (lost 20 now 80 to go) so because I am extremely obese, I think that has a lot to do with why I am dropping so many pounds. I didn't mean to insinuate than you or anyone else is just sitting around, but there are some who do nothing and expect supplements to work like magic. You're doing an awesome job and your body will not be able to fight you forever. I say that to say you will reach your goal. Keep up the good work! :)
Sunday, February 24, 2008, 8:07 PM
PP, I disagree that only obese people will see results. I was around 125lbs in the beginning of the year and had been apart of PT for many months previously without any drastic results. Since January I've changed nothing but adding this combo, even a lower dosage of CLA (about 2000mg/day) since I can't afford buying it all the time! However, I've lost about 8lbs since starting. In the beginning I had headaches, but now I am used to it and I've even noticed the combo with the green tea has helped my stomach problems. Don't know how, but I definitely haven't had as many IBS symptoms lately. So, I say stick with it for more than a month and see what happens.
Sunday, February 24, 2008, 9:58 PM
I didn't know what else to say about it because it seems like the only ones that were posting bad results with the combo were those that only have a small amount of weight to lose. I know that it works for me, so I just said it is because I am obese. I am glad to see that someone in the normal weight category is experiencing great results. Keep up the good work! :)

CLA sticks?
Yesterday I wanted to count my CLA to see how long before I needed to purchase more. I poured them into my hand and I only had four left. Today while eating lunch, I accidentally dropped the bottle on the floor while trying to take my daily dose. I discovered that there were actually 10 left instead of four.
TAP YOUR CLA BOTTLE AGAINST A HARD SURFACE TO BE SURE THAT IT IS EMPTY. MY CLA WERE STICKING TO THE BOTTLE. How random.
Thursday, February 28, 2008, 6:42 PM
Mine do the same, I hit it against the counter lightly before I open it just to get them to come out.
Thursday, February 28, 2008, 8:02 PM
me too! i think it's the gelatin that the coating is made of.
Thursday, February 28, 2008, 11:45 PM
Okay, I just wanted to be sure that I was buying expired CLA. I am so paranoid when it comes to things like that. :)
Friday, February 29, 2008, 5:48 AM
I am having headaches following usage. Can they be avoided? Do they go away?
Wednesday, March 5, 2008, 11:24 PM
They usually go away.
Thursday, March 6, 2008, 11:44 AM
ckecked out the european journal of pharmacology site as mentioed earlier. Sorry, couldn't figure out if they were saying that it was or was't safe on the heart or increasing rish for diabetes. Can someone help me out, i'm new to the forum. Thanks . I have tried this and have lost 1 lb. per day without trying. I hope it's safe!!
Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 6:43 AM
There is no caffeine or caffeine like additives in these pills other than the green tea. The CLA itself is not bad on your heart, don't know about the green tea but I suppose it could have the same affect as coffee.
Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 8:13 AM
10:13 checking back in
The combo still has done nothing for my weight, but I am very toned (although I do workout a lot so it's unclear if this is me or the supplements working). That said, I'm continuing with the CLA as the research I've seen is more positive than negative, but as of today, I am stopping the green tea. I have seen no change (no additional energy, no weight loss, etc.) but woke up last night with pain in my liver, which tells me it's overworked. Caffeine is not the problem (I do not use a high caffeine GT), rather, it is the polyphenols in the supplements that are hard on your liver. (Lots of support on this from the internet). Just thought I'd let folks know. This 'experiment' isn't worth sacrificing my health for.

nausea and green tea extract
Has anyone else ever experienced nausea/vomitting with taking green tea extract? I bought them with really good intentions of taking them, but I have noticed that unless I take them with a meal involving starchy carbs, I almost always feel nauseus and have thrown up a few times.
Has anyone else experienced this? How can I get around this?
Thursday, March 13, 2008, 11:54 AM
Sorry, I haven't experienced that. :(
It sucks being sick so I feel for you. I hope things get better.
Friday, March 14, 2008, 2:54 AM
I recently heard about the Tonalin CLA which i am going to take not necessarily to lose weight (I take topomax, generic topaz which I order online for that, i lost 8 lbs in 2 months already. it seems safer to me than ephedra.) but I will take the CLA more to shrink my fat cells. i have always had bad cellulite. My girlfriend suggested it, and said her mind seems clearer. I know Omega 3 is good for the mind also, so i imagine this will be as well. Also some of you have said your dreams have been more vivid.
I will keep you posted if i begin to lose inches or the celulite is reduced, or my mind becomes more clear. I store fat as most women do in my belly and bum. I have dry skin also, so i hope the CLA will help with that, and adding some green tea will slow the aging process. This is a healthy way to go. The topomax isn't as healthy of a choice, but it works like you wouldn't believe. If you are someone who is willing to go the ephedra route, try looking into this.
Thursday, March 27, 2008, 12:11 AM
I lost 20lbs. in 2 months with diet and exercise. I lost another 10lbs. when I added the combo to my routine. Good luck. :)

I just started Toanlin and Hoodia tea, hoodia "tricks your brain into thinking you're full" and my cut down on cravings. So far so good... any thoughts on hoodia?
Thursday, April 3, 2008, 11:54 AM
Sorry for the late response PP but I don't come to this thread as often as I used to. I don't know much about Hoodia, but I always hear good things if that makes any sense. :)

Trans Fatty Acid!
This sounded like a pretty sweet deal but upon further investigation on wiki - Its a Trans Fat! The research is still out on this one.. and Im not willing to gamble on my health. After all, thats why a lot of us are dieting!

In reading your link, it sounds like the jury is still out on the benefits of cla. Also, if you read what foods contain cla it can help you determine if you are already getting plenty of cla in your diet without adding any supplements, which leads me to think that the gt would be the more important of the two.
If you read the package it also says that with proper diet and exersize it can be used as a diet aid. This is true with most anything. Dont just count on something being a miracle weightloss aid. Some things work better for some people then others. Give it time (as in at least a month) and make sure you are working with it through exersize and proper eating.

CLA
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
CLAs are trans fats that are beef and dairy constituents.
Two different forms of CLA were tested in
a double-blinded, randomised, placebo-controlled trial
of 180 men and women ages 18-65, BMI 25-30. After
one year there was a small but statistically significant
1.8-kg weight reduction (0.6 kg/m2 reduction in BMI)
when CLA was given as a triglycéride (4.5 g/day, 76%
CLA-triacylglycerol). Subjects were given a written
questionnaire asking about dietary and exercise habits
at baseline, six months, and one year. In a one-year,
open-label extension of the trial no further decrease in
weight was observed. Adverse events were noted in less
than four percent of subjects, were not serious, and were
similar for CLA and placebo groups." When CLA was
given as free fatty acids rather than a triglyceride, weight
loss was not observed.

Hi
The post above is mine, just wanted to put on what the reasearch said. Also, I am trying the CLA (soy included) at about 3 tabs which is equivalent to 2200mg along with 4 days of running. I will let you know the results if interested.
Saturday, June 28, 2008, 8:26 PM
CLA does seem to work, but it is also potentially dangerous.
(1) CLA actually shift the metaboloic process so that when you burn excess calories, it takes more from fat cells than from muscle. Normally, when you work out, the calories are burned from a proportionate amount o fcells from both fat and muscle--which is why when you're on a regimen to lose a lot of weight, you need to work out a lot, with days of rest, so you can rebuild muscle as you go along.
(2) CLA is not regulated by the FDA or any other federal agency, meaning those pills you buy from Walmart could come from China or Nigeria and you have no idea what is truly in them, and even if it is truly CLA you won' tknow what _else_ is in it and you have no guarantee of the purity. The sme thing goes for a lot of dietary supplements, however, like fish oil.
I personally used some I got from a respected body-building protein powder supplier, and it all came from natural producers, from sunflower seeds (sunlower seed oil has one of the highest amounts of CLA per ounce of any other thihng out there that contains CLA, and it's relatively cheap). It did seem to help me lose weight _while_ gaining muscle mass, and I have always maintained low blood pressure and had no ill caridovascular effecs.
Just try to get it from a reputable dealer (not from any old internet vendor, and not from Cosco/Walmart who get their pills from the cheapest source wihtout rigorous testing).

Great Thread
I've fell up on this thread and have spent the last couple minutes reading it.. It's been going on almost a year so its awesome to see how everyone has been doing over the time.
I initially looked up the combination of CLA and Green Tea because i was afraid they might counter eachother because of Green Tea's ability to breakdown fatty acids (CLA is a fatty acid).. Obviously they work great together!
CLA
They say that CLA takes a month of being in your system for it to start really working.. i noticed the CLA working at its best when i went away for work for 2 weeks and couldn't work out. I did however keep taking my CLA every day. I also had an expense account and was eating crab and steak dinners every night!! When i came back home and was back in the gym, i obviously lost some TONE and gained a few pounds.. But, it only took me about 4 or 5 workouts to be completely back to where i was before the trip: a Shredded 6pack and all unnecessary wait was gone..!!! CLA is a miracle for me because i keep a strict diet, eating every 2-3 hrs, and work out 5 days a week.. Putting CLA in my diet has done amazing things for me..
I recently took about 2 months off of the gym because the end of my fiscal year has brought on a lot of 7 day work weeks.. i also like to give my body a rest every once in a while (just an excuse to be lazy for a couple months!!).. I'm very excited to see how quickly i can get back to the body i had 2 months ago now including GREEN TEA and CLA!
Ps, i've been drinking 2-3 cups of green tea per day.. Is it better to take the capsules??? please advise..
Thanks again.. Great thread, keep it going!

Thanks for bumping this thread!
I was just thinking about CLA the other day. I used to take both for about 3mos and got down to my lowest target weight during the 3rd month and didn't think I needed it any longer. Now 3months later I am back to where I started in the beginning and I didn't change my diet or calories besides stopping the green tea/cla combo.
I've started taking green tea again this week and I'm thinking about fessing up and putting out the $12 for the CLA again too just to see if it will work again. I'm convinced now that it did help me and thinking about it now I really think the combination helped my IBS symptoms too. Weird, but true.

Great Thread!
Bump Thread:
That's good to hear that it worked so well for you.. I'm anxious to see how well taking both of them works for me.. In my 2 month 'off time' i gained about 8lbs and lost about all my tone.. haha.. but i'm a guy, 25yrs old, and i have to admit, for me, it will only take about 3-4weeks to get right back to where i was.. So guys are lucky in that area.. But if i were you i would BUY THE CLA!!!
i get my CLA from www.PurtiansPride.com ... They are running a special of buy one bottle get 2 free and sometimes they have Free Shipping offers..!! Once your at the website, type in cla in the search box.. it will bring up like 4 results.. Get the CLA 1000MG Tonalin (it will be on the far right in the "customer favorite" box).. These have a high 78%-84% CLA in each pill (.78-.84g of CLA).. The avg % of CLA in most other brands is 75%. i alternate each day between 4 and 5 pills to keep my avg above the 3.4g of CLA you need to take each day for it to be most effective..
Geeze.. i should call up Puritan's Pride and ask for a commission.. haha.. but i started getting it there about 3 months ago, and since then, about 13 of my friends and family have started getting it from there.. So it's a good website to order from..
Well, i'll be checking back on this thread daily and keeping you updated.. On Monday when i started back on my regiment, i weighed in at 201lbs.. I'm at 199lbs as of today, just 3 workouts in.. I'll probably post weekly updates because it helps keep me motivated..
Goodluck,
Greg

CLA and GT + 1200 calories a day
Hi, I am wondering if you considered that it may not be working because of your calorie restrictions. Many fitness experts do not recommend going below 1400 calories so that your body does not go into starvation mode.

CLA/Green Tea with other fat burners
I'm currently using LS7 by Isatori and wanted to know if I can stack CLA & Green Tea with LS7? I'm 44, never excercised regularly until this past year and have probably one of the biggest spare tires known to man. I've lost 40lbs since April 2009 and I've gotten some results since I started LS7 4 weeks ago but with my excercise regimen (twice a day, 4 hours total) and diet (oats, veggies, salad, fruits, egg whites, chicken, turkey, fish) I expected better results around the waist line. I'm currently 201-203 depending on which scale I use but want to lose more weight and especially burn my spare tire. All this weight is post marriage weight as I walked around at 175 - 180 in my 20's. That's where I belong. So, can I stack this combination with a Fat Burner?

CLA
I see this thread hasn't been added to for a few months, but I'm just joining. I found the thread very interesting, thank you all for writing detailed posts and providing links. I've been taking CLA for a month or so now (Blubonnet brand), but only 1000 mg a day, and no green tea. I stopped a diet at the same time I started taking it and have put back the 5lbs I lost, no surprise since I've been indulgent, BUT I've noticed I haven't put the weight as much on my belly as I usually do. I thought it might be my imagination which is why I looked up CLA and found this thread. So maybe it is the CLA and not my imagination. Also, very interesting about the comments on vivid dreams as I have been having more vivid dreams since I started taking it. I would never have thought to credit the CLA. I'm happy my figure changed a slight bit and am inspired to perhaps return to the diet. Thanks to this thread I'll up the dose of CLA and add green tea. Please let me know how it's going with all you previous posters!

I've read through this entire thread, and your post sounds 100% like me. I could have posted it myself. Would you let me know how you made out as I just ordered the CLA and green tea, but haven't tried it yet.

weight lose
you have to remember that just because the scale does not move that it does not mean that you did not lose any weight. Ask yourself this Do my clothes fit differently, Do I see changes in my body? My husband was freaking because the scales were not moving and his belly did not look any different. He went to the nutritionist and she went through his diet, exercise routine and everything and the end result was that he was changing but his lean body mass had changed and he had gained more muscle. So if you are seeing changes I would say that you have gained muscle. And you know what muscle weighs more than fat! I am happy for you that you finally have started to lose weight. I am going to try these two products. My other thought was to try the Lipozene online. They claim that this product also makes you lose belly fat. Good luck keep me posted on how you are doing.
