How do you count your calories?

I usually like to write it down and then calculate and sometimes if I have an orange and i have an idea of what the calorie is I estimate.

Generally I check the package and then measure my portions according to the serving size on the package. If it's a recipe I approximate by summing the calories in each ingredient. If it's something like an apple or an orange I estimate it's size (sm, med, lg) and go by that.

I have been known to weigh out 4 oz of apple though, but usually I'm not that precise. I just like to see how much 4 oz of apple is sometimes though.

I do the same. It is sort of a habit that if I don't have a good understanding of how much I ate that day I get a bit uneasy.

I bought myself a calorie pocket book that has like a million things in there and i just look up all the food i prepare and i use my common sense about what i think is a good serving size

I use several nutrition-tracking websites. A good one for calculating basic foods and ingredients is www.nutritiondata.com, and one that has nutritional data from thousands of restaurants and brand-name foods is www.healthclub.com.

for calculating the calorie content of recipes I go with the old standby: the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference. Once I figure it out I make a note on the recipe, so I'll know next time.
