Can you eat too many apples?

I love apples and this is the season - yay! Will it hurt me if I have an apple with breakfast, as a snack between lunch and dinner, then again after dinner, every day?

I've heard eating too many apples can make you gassy. I eat a lot of apples and I've never had this problem...but you've been warned!

actually, you can. I remember watching a show called "X Weighted" about people trying to lose weight. This women used to drive an hour to work and on the way she would eat about 6 apples thinking it was healthy, but the personal trainer said that those apples still contribute to your caloric intake for the day.

The bottom line is, you should count your apples calories and just keep it within your calories for the day. It should be fine as long as it's within your limit for the day.

I would agree with counting the calories and making sure you get the proper nutrition from other foods and a multi vit. But there is an issue with blood sugar too. If you have any problems in that area the natural sugars in the apple can cause you to raise and then drop in which case I would suggest having a small amount of protien with it too.
Otherwise I can't imagine that there would be a problem.

And I agree the apples are excellent this year.

Here is the thing about apples, they are full of fiber, so eating 3-4 a day will help you stay full for a long time. They are also easy and tasty to eat.

I do not think personal trainers should ever give dietary advise unless they have a RD after their name.
I think your diet is such a personal thing what works for the OP and what would work for someone else is different, I eat about 2200 calories a day, and most people would tell me that is two much, but my RMR is 2600 and I am droping weight because I eat and workout the way that works for me.

I think I'd have a belly ache if I ate that many apples a day. I already eat a lot of vegetables and some fruit so if I added that many apples, I'd be in the bathroom a lot! Sorry for the TMI...

OP here. I eat LOTS of fruits & veggies every day. I was a vegan for 10 years, then an ovo-lacto vegetarian for 5 years, now I'm mostly veg with just a bit of poultry & fish on occasion. Actually, I eat about 5 servings of fruit and 7 or 8 of vegetables every day. Sometimes more. So 3 apples a day shouldn't cause me any tummy trouble. I just wondered if it would throw things off to have 3 of the same fruit instead of 3 different fruits. For all that I know about eating fruits & vegetables, I really have a hard time applying it to myself.

Yes!

You can eat too many apples. I ate a dozen apples once when I was a kid and it made me horribly sick. I don't know why I ate so many, but threw up apple pie.

I love how everyone on here is giving these extreme situations where apples make people sick and/or fat. Who the hell is going to eat a dozen apples? Or even six on a drive to work? Besides those two people, of course. That's completely absurd.

I eat small organic apples. I live in Michigan, so they're easy and cheap to come across. One small apple has like 70 calories in it. Medium to large are around 100. It's not going to knock you off the wagon to eat three apples a day. In fact, good for you for eating actual apples and not apple pie or danishes or any other bastardization of the in season apple.

I also agree with the poster that mentioned eating an array of fruits and veggies, and maybe taking a multi. Apples are great, but not all-inclusive nutritionally.

i love granny smiths, which are none too sweet. i agree with those who advocate for diversity in the foods we eat. still, i have read that eating a small apple as a start to a meal is beneficial. heh, i keep meaning to try it.
