bellydancing as a workout?

does it work? i greek belly dance a little as it is, but it's nothing like the 'arabic' bellydancing, so i'm curious to try it. did anyone see any real results, especially with their abs and hips?

My cousin is Arabic and she belly dances. She's been doing it for 10 years and has the tiniest waist and awesome abs. But she has always been on the small side but when she started to dance she got real toned. But a lot of belly dancers have nice round hips and a slight belly, the men in those sorts of culture like the softness I understand. Don't get me wrong not fat or anything like that but go online and look at some of the dances, most of them are nice and round and soft looking.

I've done bellydancing for about two years. I admit, it's only for a few hours a week so I shouldn't be expecting much. I did not notice any difference at all in terms of inches or the jiggle factor around my belly or hips. However, bellydance did help me feel a lot more confident about being curvaceous. Give it a try if you have the chance. You might experience good feelings of femininity and body pride, as I did!

There are power bellydance classes out there and you will sweat a lot, especially if you wear a weighted belt. It can be a good cardio workout, depending on the teacher.
