Arizona Diet Green Tea with Ginseng

I've been telling myself that it's better for me than diet soda. I know there are healthier alternatives to both, but overall, is it better than diet soda, or am I just kidding myself?

The ingredients are:
Premium brewed green tea using filtered water, honey, citric acid, ascorbic acid, natural flavors, sucralose (Splenda), acesulfame potassium, ginseng extract

Thanks in advance!

The ingredients in Diet Coke, for reference, are:

Carbonated water, caramel color, aspartame, phosphoric acid, potassium benzoate, natural flavors, citric acid, caffeine

I don't know how aspartame measures up against the acesulfame potassium or the sucralose, but probably none are fantastic for you.

Interestingly, according to Wikipedia, potassium benzoate, which is used as a preservative in acidic beverages, is not recommended for consumption by children in the EU. Also, if it is consumed along with ascorbic acid (vitamin C), it may form benzene, which is a carcinogen. I wonder if that's in the new Diet Coke with Vitamins?!?!

Give Lipton PureLeaf a try. It is unsweetened, but you could add the Splenda yourself. Ingredients: Tea and citric acid. They make an already sweetend form, but I like mine without sweetner.

I wouldn't say one is healthier than the other except maybe for the health benefits that green tea lays claim to (and even then, you'd need to check if they're compromised by the presence of the other ingredients, the way they suspect milk reduces the antioxidant potency of tea/coffee, for example).

I recommend getting a pitcher and have fun making them yourself - that way you skip all the preservatives and get to choose your own sweetener. Just remember to steep more teabags than you think you should because you're going to pour it over ice and thereby dilute it.
