new sport

I despise working out. I came up with a new idea that maybe I should try a sport instead so there would be a reason to be active and I could win! (I love winning). Any suggestions for a sport that would be good to start in the winter, preferably something I could do at least 3 times a week? I was thinking about racquetball.

I think this is a great idea! For regular games/ teams, check your local Parks & Rec department for leagues (basketball, ultimate frisbee, soccer, tennis, other sports) and ask around at local sporting good stores to find out more about where to learn about these opportunities.

Racquetball sounds like a great idea. In addition, perhaps consider trying indoor rock climbing (it's not really a competitive sport, but it's much more fun than sitting on a machine in a gym).

You can also think about picking an event to prepare for, such as a triathlon, 5K, or something...

Good luck!

I had a BLAST playing squash in college, and it was definitely a new sport for me. I don't know anything about raquetball, although I think they are sort of similar. Tennis is another good one, and you can definitely take classes so that you're forced to do it several times a week.

I highly recommend taking martial arts classes. Having taken a few styles, I would suggest judo -- it works well for short chubby people like me. It's a great cardio, upper body and core workout, and it's a bit more female-friendly than some of the other types I've tried.
