OT - pregnant and already a bad mommy?

I think I am pregnant.Today is my due date for my period, I just did a pregnancy test and I got the "two stripes"!

We did not have sex during my supposed fertile time (I chart) but I would still welcome a baby!

The TERRIBLE thing is, I drank for a week and half after that conception happened. Wine is the eve with dinner, even went to an out of town wedding and had too much fun.

Please - is there anyone out there who knows the chances of birth defects? I have an appointment with my doc in 5 days, but till then I am FREAKING OUT!

And please, no harsh judgements - believe me, I am totally judging myself...

THANKS

The first 2 weeks are always a wash, meaning, you're always fine if you drank etc. Definitely ask your OB but this has been general common knowledge among all of my mommy friends. I have 2 children and the first two weeks before I've found out I've had sushi, french cheese, bottles of champagne, you name it. Don't worry and CONGRATULATIONS!

i didn't know i was preg until almost the end of the first trimester. i was a chain smoker. when i learned i was preg, i stopped smoking immediately, but exposed the fetus to almost 3 mos worth of chemicals! my child came out at a healthy weight and seems to be developing normally. i am sure you are not the first person who drank while pregnant & didn't know. everything will be OK :)

Last poster you hit my fear right on the head. I'm not planning to have a family any time soon but sometimes these things happen. My fear is that I won't know for some reason and harm my baby.
Is it very common for a woman to not know she is pregnant for that long?

Many women have done this unknowingly, don't worry. Now focus on being as healthy as you can be : ) Congratulations!

the first few weeks of conception is really all about cells multiplying. So what you really do in that time won't really have any effect on the fetus. It isn't until your about a month into it that the nervous system develops and the way docs do the timing is always wrong. My doc insisted that I was so many weeks with this pregnancy and I knew I was further along since I chart. Surprise, surprise I turned out to be 3 weeks more then she thought.

Don't worry

In the first 2 weeks after conception, the fertilized egg (not even an embryo yet) is traveling down your tube and just beginning to implant in the uterus. There is no placenta, no amniotic sac. Most important, no blood supply is established. I’m sure your Dr. will reassure you that everything will be fine.

You'll have plenty of time later on to feel Mommy guilt. No need to start this early!

He nervously giggled and smiled.

I am sure this will take a few months to sink in!
