Plateaus in weight loss
I have been overweight all my life...over 250 pounds. When I get to 200 or below My body hits this plataeu and nothing helps. After a while I get frustrated and turn to emotional eating. Exercise has been one way for me to get off the plateau but now due to health reasons I cannot jog or do weight lifting...I walk now.

I suggest if you're serious about losing weight and not hitting plateaus you get your metabolism tested every 6 to 8 weeks - just to make sure you are eating the right number of calories. Metabolism changes as exercise increases and weight decreases. You want to make sure your body isn't going into starvation mode because you're eating too little and vice versa - weight loss boils down to calories in vs. calories out - if you're eating too many calories for your metabolism than you are not going to continue losing weight.
www.metabolicfingerprint & www.healthetech.com has more information about metabolism testing and finding out exactly how many calories you should be eating.
In addition - I highly recommend using a measuring tape and tracking your measurements. Often when we're exercising and eating healthy the fat is being replaced with muscle and muscel weighs more than fat but it takes up less space. Soooo.... although the scale may not be moving or may be moving slowly the inches will still be decreasing!

My recommendation is to follow the Eat to Live diet (strictly) for 6 weeks. That will get you off of ANY plateau. Buy the book and read it all the way through (don't just skip to the chapter describing the diet) - you will be amazed at how much weight you can lose.

Eat more intentionally
Sometimes when I hit a plateaus I actually eat more on purpose, but keep my body within three lbs. of my current weight. I eat a bit more weith each meal untill I've gained three lbs. and then go back to the low weight for a while. This seems to help my body get ready to loose weight again and gives me a break from trying to loose weight. (I got the idea from Curves).

plateau
I agree with the tape measure .
Keep little file cards and measure 1x week, write it down and then refer to the numbers from several months ago when you hit a plateau.

Just thought I'd let you all know that I looked into metabolicfingerprint.com and in my area it's $49.95 at a Bally's to have it done. It sounds interesting. Maybe some day.
