what I'd like to know is how much is too much.Ok, so it is good for me. Does that mean half an entire watermelon is that much better for me?

yes, the more the better. unless ofcourse you are watching calories. as low in calories as watermelon is, it will still add up the more you eat. it's also quite sweet, so if you are watching sugar, don't eat an entire thing :)

but anyway, watermelon flushed the liver, detoxes the intestine and the bladder, and basically does a really good cleanse of your body. it's best to eat it on an emply stomach and about an hour before a regular meal to let it do its work. contrary to what most people tend to do, it actually loses its good benefits if you eat if after a meal, such as for dessert.

I love the way it makes me feel when i eat half a watermelon for breakfast.

Watermelon is almost all water. It'd be hard to eat too much (unless your stomach hurts). Look up the calories and nutrients on the wiki here at Peer Trainer if you want to see how much is in a serving.

an entire watermelon has more than 1300 calories and 280 grams of sugar!

Well, if the only thing you eat all day is watermelon, no, that's not good.
The idea that if a little of something is good for you, then a lot must be even better is something we are all guilty of thinking. Like if it's good to run 3 miles then it's even better to run a marathon...uh-uh, not unless your body is really ready for it. Hey, a glass of red wine is wonderful for you - is a whole bottle? uh-uh, not even if your body is used to it ;)

Just use some common sense. When I was in high school, I knew a girl who ate nothing but carrots for a week and ended up orange-skinned and hospitalized with Vitamin A poisoning. Don't go there - you can weaken your liver and other organs like this.

My husband went to the doctor recently for some hmmm...elimination...problems...I think he was worried about colon cancer and/or prostate issues...

In any case, that was all fine and the doctor recommended he eat watermelon because it is water and fiber.

also, I can't imagine anyone sitting down and eating an entire watermelon in a sitting or even in a day. And I do believe there is a difference in the way the body processes natural sugars vs. processed/refined sugars.

Yes, really good. Don't swallow the pits though or a watermelon will grow in your stomach. Kidding, only kidding.

Watermelon as lycopene in it, the same vitamin in tomatoes so yes it is very good for you! It can also help curb nausea in pregnant women.

2 cups ~ 100cal

its so full of water that you can eat a lot of it for relatively few calories. I have a few containers of watermelon in the fridge right now.
I buy one at the store and cut it up for the week. 1 watermelon 10-12 inches in diameter yields about 8-2cup servings.
i love it!

dr oz had this thing on oprah where people ate 10 pounds of fruits and veggies a day. And they all lost 11 pounds or something in 2 weeks. I wouldn't eat just watermelon -everything in moderation- but if you eat a ton of good stuff like that it helps you lose weight, period.

Funny watermelon story

When my older sister was about 5 she told my parents she loved watermelon so much she wanted to eat half of one. So, my father gave her an entire half of a watermelon. Both my parents thought she would never eat it all, but she did. Her abdomin was completely distended. My sister went to bed, about an hour later my Mother heard the sound of running water. My sister had peed on herself. She was so full of liquid that the urine went completely through the mattress and boxspring and was hitting the floor under the bed.
Don't tell her I told you!

for the poster and roommate wanting to try a whole water melon. It shouldn't cause any real problems for you - just don't do that every day. I think eating a full t-day dinner would be much worse for anyone than a whole watermelon. And neither are bad once in a while.

SHOCKING INFO????

EVERYONE,
I'm an 19 year old woman who eats pretty much nothing but watermelon. I eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner and have since summer... i rarely eat anything else believe it or not. i just had surgery and i eat nothing but watermelon and coffee (with milk and splenda) --- THATS IT.. i SMOKE on top of it.. I just went to the Dr..
He said im recovering from surgery (completely non-nutrition related) faster than anyone he's ever seen ! he was shocked and had to show all the other doctors my incision!!

Watermelon has so many good nutritional properties.. I'm not seeing the downside.. i eat between 1 and 1 1/2 a day with almost nothign else but the nutrients from milk.... and I am completely healthy and skinny.

I SAY DO ITTT ! P.S. the more you pee the better your digestive track !

INFO: ever wonder why the africans and egyptians age well? blame it on the watermelon. it's grown in these countries and they consume large amounts of it.. lycopene is great for the skin !

NATURAL SUGAR IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a GREAT difference between the NATURAL SUGAR you find in fruits which is HEALTHY and the refined sugar in processed foods. Do not be mistaken! Eating fruits is healthy unless you have certain medical conditions. Oh gosh I am surprised how people ignore facts. For instance OLIVE OIL has FAT but is healthy! Olives and almonds have fat but no bad cholesterol. Watermelon has sugar but HEALTHY sugar and sugar is an essential carbohydrate from which we derive energy in the ATP process, in the mitochondrias in the Chain of Reactions of the Metabolism And a I am a Biologist!

It was interesting the comment about it curbing nausea in pregnant women by 11.25.. as when I was pregnant I couldn't get enough of it, and ended up only eating watermelon 3 days flat... I only stopped as what goes in one end, comes out the other, and watermelon poo is no way a normal thing and very disturbing!!! but at the time was the only thing I kept down.. Pregnancy sucks when you can only eat healthy food.. I think I must have been the only person to loose weight whilst pregnant, but I made up for it after, thus my current presence on this site!

Anti Dehydration

Water melon is a fruit which contains the largest amount of water. It is abundant with a variety of minerals and vitamins. It is a very good remedy for people suffering from dehydration, since it has more than 90 percent of water content.
