Questioning PT "sponsors"

Hmmm, I'm just wondering why the Peer Trainer webpage has a Pizza Hut ad for 2 medium pizzas, large order of breadsticks and order of cinnamon sticks with goopy, sugary dip -- and a note to "visit our sponsor!"

What the heck??????????

Pizza Hut? Where? I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Pzza! Ooops, not on my healthy eating plan. So why is it a SPONSOR for Peer Trainer? I'm so confused!

I saw that and wondered about it myself. It was a long side bar type ad. On the left side of the page about 3 inches wide and the whole page long. Maybe because PT is free and they need sponsors to pay for the web hosting? But why choose a sponsor that could sabotage PT members goals? Sheesh!

we did not see that, and we are going to block that ad asap.

Good thing, thanks for removing it. But if PT didn't know about the ad, how could Pizza Hut be a sponsor?

some of the ads seem to be based on something written in the comments like metadata. my guess is someone had discussed Pizza Hut and the server picked up an ad for it inadvertently? just a guess.

Tom Brady

if you started a thread on Tom Brady, the google ads would show ads about Tom Brady, Football and the Patriots. That is how google works.

Look up google adsense if you want to know how ads on sites like this work. They aren't trying to sabotage you, the ads will reflect the subject matter being discussed.

do you ever get the sense that one person is just talking to themselves in different voices?

I definitely get the sense that someone talks to themselves in different voices. It's usually the complainer about PT and she's in my groups too. I wish we could "vote" her off like they do on survivor.

Oh and PT, I LOVE pizza hut and I am ok with them sponsoring the site so I hope you keep it on here. What's wrong with tomato and cheese once in a while? Everything in moderation.

You guys need to understand that these ads often come in through ad networks- which means a ton of different advertisers. As a general rule, we block ads that you request we block. Overall, most of these ads are the same you would see in Self Magazine, Shape Magazine or any magazine like that. We blocked the graphical pizza hut ad yesterday at someone's request. If an ad is really bothering you- no problem, there are plenty of other advertisers.

OP here. I think this has been handled very well by PT (thank you!) and it's time to end this thread. Especially since there have been some comments that have nothing to do with the topic and seem to be attempts at "starting something".

Thanks all.
