5K Run

Hi everybody,

I am doing a 5K run in about two weeks! I'm not a runner and I don't do it as often as I do other things (workouts, that is). I know it's not that big of a run, but I wanted to know what I could do to train for it? Even though I don't run often, I do workout everyday, and I'm a very active healthy person. Just a slow runner.

Any ideas on how to train? I've already begun to run everyday. I eat healthy, and get a good amount of calories, but I've never done anything like this.

Any tips?

Hi! Your best bet is to google Couch to 5K. It's a great program to get yourself into a 5k. If you only have 2 weeks but are in decent shape, then you could speed the program along.
I have never run a 5K but it's one of my goals. Best of luck to you - let us know how you did!

I've run 2 5K's in the last 3 months and they are a lot of fun. I prepared by walking half and jogging the next half. Then I gradually started to rot the whole thing. I found a track that is 5k and I practiced there. What works for me is having great music to listen too and reminding myself that a 5k is more mental than physical. If you are in good health, you can do this. There is no reason why your bones cannot carry your frame for 3.2 miles, except that you tell yourself you can't do it. I seriously repeated this motto over in my head when I felt tired. Also, I have been doing these 5k's with a friend and that helps. What is so funny, is that when I practice alone, I hardly am able to complete 3.2 miles, but when you add a bunch of people to the mix, it gets you going and you can do it. My goal is to do a 10k by December, which seems impossible, but so did the 5k. I am excited for you.
