YIkes! I gained weight during vacation!
Yeah, big news! I exercised daily and watched my diet, I splurged a little but didn't over do it. I have managed to gain about 8 lbs during my 3 week vacation. Part of the weight gain is due to my period coming up, but what gives?
My things are bulging, my pants are snug and making my tummy bulge and my arms look swollen.
I feel gross. Thanks for reading my b*tch thread :)

I hear you - a lot of it is salt/sugar water weight though. Get back on the scale in a couple of days after you've been watching what you eat.

with the little bit of admitted 'splurging", you obviously DID over do it, even if it was by mistake...did you count your calories while on vacation? were you as regimented with your exercise routine? did you maybe imbibe a few drinks for which that you did not calculate calories? whatever happened, it's happened. just get back to business and remember this trip next time you take a vacation. hope you had fun otherwise...

You almost definitely didn't really gain 8lbs. Most is probably water weight. You would've had to eat an extra 8x3500 = 28,000 calories over the course of 3 weeks, in addition to what you normally eat, in order to gain that much weight. That's about an extra 1350 cals per day, so probably close to twice as much as you'd normally eat!
Probably, you ate more salty food than usual. Also, did you fly home? For a lot of people, flying causes water retention, which should go away in a day or two.
Eat well and exercise for a few days and then re-weigh. You are probably just bloated.

The problem with vacation eating is that you don't control any of the ingredients, no idea how much butter or oil is used or how well trimmed that steak you ordered was or whether that chicken breast on your salad was 4oz, 5oz, 6oz. No lite dressings or lite mayo or other diet substitutes...some places don't even have fake sugar or diet soda options. You probably also had a little more alcohol than usual, and that's really easy to miscalculate and lose track of unless you stick to beer or wine. It adds up.
You'll probably drop 5 of those 8 in a week...no need to freak out.

Not the OP, but -- it would be SO easy for me to eat twice as many calories as I usually do! An extra 1300 or 1400 is easy to snarf down (esp. with aforementioned restaurant meals) and not so easy to burn up.
