Fitday.com

According to fitday.com, my swim practices burn about 700-900 calories each time (they're 2 hours long,,but I put 1.5 hours..giving time to change, etc, and 900 is 'vigorous' and '700' is moderate')

How accurate is that really? I mean, I understand that swimming is GREAT exersise and we definately work hard...but that number seems a little huge. We do swim mostly freestyle, so that's what I put.

According to that number..I can eat my maintenence amount of calories (2072 - this doesn't include exersise...just my "student" lifestyle) and still lose about 1.5-2 lbs a week.

Hrm.

I'm not sure.

Try some other websites to see what kind of numbers you get. I would probably try 3 or 4 (there are tons of them out there!) and take the average.

That calorie burn sounds about right. The only thing I find with most of the swimmers in the pool is that they take a lot of what I call "therapeutic bobbing" breaks every lap or two, so those calculations are over the top for that kind of swimmer.

The thing is, for many women the math doesn't work terribly well because of hormonal interference. Example: if you diet faithfully through your period, the following week you'd not only lose the 2 lbs of water weight you put on, you'd also lose the pound that you should have lost that week plus another 1-2 lbs for the subsequent week. I've never had that happen to me, nor have I known that to happen for anyone else. Other hormonal interference...birth control pills, and that "starvation mode" thing that kicks in when your calorie deficit gets too big (you eat 1500 but use up 3000, for example). But maybe it's different with youth on your side. Good luck!

OP here

I'm pretty damn sore here, lol, sure felt like 900 calories being burnt.

And we pretty much swim the full time, minus any drills..which still involve swimming.

She made us tread water for 10 minutes straight :O

Thanks for the ideas guys!
