Tell me this will get better.
I gained 5 pounds over the holidays. I got on the scale and I can't believe it. Is there a chance it will be different tomorrow? Soooooooooo bummed.

One question? Why weren't you monitoring your weight during the holidays? You should have weighed yourself at least every other day that way when you noticed the 1st pound you could have been more accountable. I have a feeling you know why this happened. Don't fret over it now just start exercising and watch what you eat. Good luck in taking it off.

It can and will!
What is 5 lbs. in the larger scheme of things?
And how much did you eat simply as a result of feeling guilty about how much you overate the night before? The more love and forebearance we can give ourselves, the healthier we will become in mind, body, and spirit. We will eat better because it just feels darn good, not because we're beating ourselves up for having overeaten another time. Eat well, but learn to let go when you don't eat so well. I suspect we'd all be slimmer and healthier if we didn't get so bummed out because we ate more then we intended in ONE sitting. Then we think, oh, what the heck? I'll eat the same until the 1st of January! Then we're more bummed. Let yourself have flexibility certain days of the week or month, but otherwise stay on track. And if you deviate a little, don't start the crazy spiral.
But you can DO this. You may know why the scale went up 5 lbs, but more powerfully, you know the strength you have within you to overcome defeatism.
Become the you you dream of being!

I gained 2 lbs. I just wanted to concentrate and have fun with the family...so i did and it sounds like you did, too. I am glad to say that I got right back on the program with good eating and exercising, and it took less than a week to take it off. I think (hope) that weight that goes on that fast must be mostly water weight. Write back in 3 days and tell us if you lost some (or most) of it. Good luck! You can do it!

Totally agree--
I didn't want to feel too bad about my eating habits over my vacation, but in the back of my mind, I was conscious that over-eating was BAD....
Thankfully, I didn't really gain much, but I definitely need to get my exercise regime going for the new year!!

me too...
I gained 5 as well over the holidays and I completely feel your pain. Its very difficult to be constantly surrounded by baked goods and family and not have the urge to eat everything in sight. I've stopped beating myself up about it,yes my plan to avoid cookies and excersise daily went out the window after attending my first holiday party, but just eating better and exercising a little more for 2 weeks will help the weight to come right off. I freaked out initially because I had been doing really well on my diet and thats a big thing for me, so going off of it made me feel like I would never be able to get back on( not to mention that sugar is addicting and the more you eat it the more you want it), but I find its easier for me to look at the actual facts of the situation: Yes it may be hard to be more rigid again, but its only a few weeks of my life and I'm trying to think about it with a systematic approach rather than letting my fear and anxiety about the weight gain sweep over me. If I stop worrying about it and just do it, my body will re-adjust and I'll be back on track before I know it.
But if you need some support ( I know I wouldnt mind some) please keep posting through your progress.
