OT - I don't think I "go" enough - may be offensive

I am serious though. I only go to the bathroom #2, twice a week. I read somewhere that that can be normal but everyone I know goes at least once a day. My ex-boyfried had to go twice a day. Is this abnormal? Is there anything I can do to help? I eat the recommended amount of fiber so what is the problem?

Eat All Bran Buds or something like it. Trust me....it works. I would only go once or twice a week too. Started eating thsi stuff for breakfast and i started see in a difference...a big difference. I would now go at least once a day. I tried eating something else for breakfast for about one week....and i went back to 2 times a week. Basically, try all bran.

No this is not normal. I have intestinal problems and see a GI on a reg basis and everything he's told me and that I've read say all the same thing. What goes in must come out. Its healthy and normal to go 2-3x a day. You eat, it digests and the waste should come out. Try to increase your fiber but do it slowly and drink water. Things that will help to get your system moving are prunes or juice, bran, the list goes on and on.

Well, the OP says she's getting the RDA of fiber, so the above advice may not be what she needs. Just to be sure - you're getting 25-30g, right? If not, work your way up to 30 but don't make a sudden leap from 20g to 30g or else you'll get bloated/gassy/generally icky for a while.

How I made the leap from going 1x a day 5-6x a week to going 2-3x a day every day: 25-35g dietary fiber pretty much every day; morning coffee; added jogging to my cardio (read up on the "runner's trots" phenomenon and work it!). Seriously, if I'm feeling a little backed up, a cup of coffee and a 10-minute jog fix it faster and less painfully than ex-lax.

Massaging your abdomen, along with the above poster's suggestions, will make a world of difference. Try to knead your lower stomach in a clockwise motion, starting from lower right and moving all the way around to the lower left. Don't go in a full circle. Stop, and start your hand again back at the lower right. Sometimes this can really help stimulate the colon. I go faithfully three times a day, so you can trust me, haha :)

I go very rarely too. I find that a glycerin supposotry helps. Although I do not reccommend this because it is not natural.

I found that eating kashi good friends cereal with wole milk and coffee made me go usually. The cereal has LOADS of fiber, the milk is naturally disruptive to the intestines, and the coffee make most people go. Try it.

I have the same problem, too, and am looking for solutions. My naturopath suggested trying Bio-K, that's some sort of special yoghurty-stuff with natural bacteria, and you basically eat a tbsp a day or something. They should have a website, try googling. My mother-in-law swears by it. Or any kind of goat/sheep yoghurt.
