I just thought of a couple ideas. Maybe no chocolate or alcohol for 1 month, or workout at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes or more. It would be great to offer prizes.

President's Challenge

Many folks on the Weight Watchers site use this challenge - you win bronze, silver, gold medals for your activity.

We did a challenge in one of my groups - set a date about a month in the future, and we all gave our starting weight. One member offered a prize - a DVD that she no longer wanted - and whomever lost the biggest percentage of their body weight in that month got the DVD. We started a new one right after, where the winner gets $10 from all of the other group members.

Of course, you'd have to be in a pretty tight-knit, private group where you didn't mind giving out your address...

In one of my groups we give each other gift certificates to the spa. This is amazing because I love massages and I really look forward to them but it is a total luxury.

We did a "Project New Year's" plan where we stuck to 1200 cals./day, worked out at least 5x/week, and had no white sugar or carbs except in moderation on Saturdays. Unfortunately the 2 members who were doing it with me kind of dropped out, and I didn't work out all 5 days (more like 3x/week), but I did lose almost 8 lbs. in 2 weeks. It has worked so well I'm looking to make it permanent. Now I just need to take in more salads and veggies. But the plan has worked for me! And the other members in my groups have been very supportive through my journey!

In our group, we all have a set weigh-in day. Our's happens to be Mondays (helps with the weekend indulgences). And then we calculate who had the biggest bodymass loss (pounds lost divided by last week's weight = %). Whomever loses the most bodyweight percentage gets the crowned tiara, or gold star for the week. I know, the tiara bit is a bit cheesy, but it works for us!! It is motivating to want to be in the lead every week. We all cheer each other on, and just knowing that we have to face the music every Monday morning on the scale has really helped all of us control our food intake.

In two of my groups, we have this weekend challenge. We challenge each other to commit to workout for 3-4 hours on the weekend. We try to track the progress over the weekend and it helps immensely. I feel motivated to do better simply to meet my group expectations.
