Sun. Aug 26, 2:21pm
Here is some stuff I found:
Overall, flaxseed and flaxseed oil is very good for you.
Flaxseeds are an excellent source of omega-3 essential fatty acids, specifically ALA (but not DHA) They are a very good source of dietary fiber and manganese. They are also a good source of folate and vitamin B6 as well as the minerals magnesium, phosphorous, and copper. In addition, flax seeds are concentrated in lignan phytonutrients.
-it has been shown to lower blood pressure

flaxseed contains a property similar to estrogen
This is from the UC Berkeley Wellness page:
"And flaxseeds are rich in yet another very interesting component—lignans—which may have anti-cancer properties. Lignans are a type of fiber, and at the same time a type of phytoestrogen—a chemical similar to the human hormone estrogen. When you eat lignans, bacteria in the digestive tract convert them into estrogen-like substances called enterodiol and enterolactone, which are thought to have anti-tumor effects. "

flaxseed might be a good diet food helping you to feel fuller, longer
"Adding flaxseed oil to your foods, or taken with a meal, creates a feeling of satiation (feeling of fullness and satisfaction following a meal). The essential fats in flaxseed oil cause the stomach to retain food for a longer period of time as compared to no-fat or low-fat foods. The addition of Flax Oil to food results in a gradual release of nutritients into the small intestine. The physiological effect is a slow, sustained rise in blood sugar, then a prolonged plateau of blood sugar. Ultimately, the blood sugar undergoes a slow and gradual drop. You will experience a corresponding feeling of prolonged energy, stamina and satisfaction with no immediate hunger pangs following the meal. The net result is that you feel fuller, longer and, actually eat fewer calories in the long run than if you would have chosen a no-fat or low-fat diet."

Flaxseed cooking tip:
One tablespoon of ground flax seeds and three tablespoons of water may serve as a replacement for one egg in baking by binding the other ingredients together. Ground flax seeds can also be mixed in with oatmeal, yogurt, water (similar to Metamucil), or any other food item where a nutty flavour is appropriate.

Ground Flaxseed vs Whole Flaxseed
"Most nutrition experts recommend ground flaxseed because your body is better able to digest it. Whole flaxseed may pass through your intestine undigested, which means you won't get the health benefits of flaxseed."
