I know exactly how you feel. When you shorter any weight gain shows a lot. I'm 5'1 and am trying really hard at the moment through eating really well and pleanty of exercise but it's a slow process - good luck!

when you do it the right way, it's a slow process. even for full figures and tall people. that's one thing that makes it so difficult.

compare to yourself, not to taller people

Being short requires a different perspective. "Only" 5 pounds looks like an extra 20 pounds would on a taller person. And your metabolic needs are smaller, because there's less of you to maintain! The key thing to keeping your attitude positive is to not compare yourself to other people. Find your own rate of weightloss and as long as it's steadily in the right direction, you shouldn't care if that 6-foot-tall guy in your group has better numbers. Take a "before" pic and compare to a progress pic once every 4 or 6 weeks.

The great thing about being short is that, although it is hard to lose the pounds, each pound you lose is a bigger proportion of your total size.

Over the past 2+ years, I've lost about 15 lbs. (Okay, I've been maintaining for at least 6 months now, but, a year and a half to lose 15 lbs is still a very slow rate!) BUT - during that time, I went from a pants size of 6, or sometimes 8, to a 2, sometimes 0. That's a lot of size coming off, even if it's not a lot of pounds!!

You can do it!!
