Help! I have no will power

I feel hopeless. Ihve been trying to lose weight forever. I have tried everything ! I am not healthy enough for that surgery! I think it is dangerous anyway. I know it is my fault ! I think I could except myself but society won't!

For a start, there is absolutely no point if you feel hopeless. You have to have hope - that's what will drive you. Visualise yourself as you want to be and retain that vision, despite how many times you mgiht think you are failing. I've always been overweight (with incidences of normal size) but am finally pushing to try and make a change. I'm hoping that this site really helps with that. I have a friend who, for as long as I've known her has been morbidly obese - it got to the point where she had difficulty walking (which is extremely unusual in the UK where I'm from). However, she eventually, after some 15 years of being like that, bit her lip, gritted her teeth and got herself a personal trainer. She's gone from a UK size 24 to a UK size 18 and still has a way to go, but she ran 5K earlier this year, and is booked in for a 10K this September. She looks and feels fantastic.

I, however, can't afford a personal trainer, so I'm hoping that this site, together with a chap down the gym, will assist me in my quest to become fit. Blogging may really help - if you are honest, you'll see what you are really eating and what exercise you are doing, people will comment and YOU WILL SEE CHANGES! But it takes consistency. Good luck!!!

10.03 again:

If you are unahppy, you won't accept yourself, and society certainly shouldn't. Being overweight places burdens on society - on healthcare systems, on public travel costs, and on the patience of others and yourself. You are doing this for you and everyone around you!

Hi OP,
I think statements like you just made are all of our problem. Everyone here at one time or another has believed this was a hopeless battle. We have probably all tried and failed before. However, you have to find something that works for you. Right now I'm not in any groups and I don't keep track of my food every day because that is a lifestyle change in itself. I just have two goals - drink a glass of water with every meal and cut out added sugar ie. I don't eat any junkfood and I don't add sugar to cereal etc. When I've met these two goals consistently for 30 days I'm going to work on two more. If I find that is too much I'll go down to one. It might take me a long time to lose weight but this is what I believe will help me sustain change long term. So I'm not weighing myself at all. I will know I've lost weight when I do but ultimately my goal and what I will be proud of is just changing those habits every day. So maybe you are like me and maybe you're not but find what works for you - what you believe you can do - start small and keep going. Good luck!
