Short or Long Hair on Girls

What is your preference, either for yourself or for others.

I have long hair, love it, but hate the maintenance. I have always envied shorter styles, but I guess I'm attached to my long locks.

Thoughts?

hmmm i just cut off my really long hair. it was the same love/hate relationship, i loved how it looked but hated, the maintenance, the what seemed like gallons of product i used, and how long it took to untangle it everyday with countless bottles of detangler after my shower. i'm loving my short hair, i cut 14 inches off and i absolutely love it! my natural curl is able to be bouncy instead of stretched out and limp. and it's sooooooo easy! i'm wondering now if i should go a bit shorter?

I love short hair!!! I have long hair but thats cause the hubby loves it. I have often wondered if he had to manage it if he would love it so much. We did make an agreement that when I lose 20 more pounds I get to cut it! I am so pumped about it. I plan to donate my hair to Locks of Love.

I think it depends on your age. Few women can wear short hair beautifully (Halle Barry comes to mind) Older gals need to take into account that it's going to make the look more their age. If it's short, it's GOTTA be stylish. Every man I've ever asked think long hair looks best on ALL women, no matter their age.

I love my short hair but sometimes wish I could wear it longer. I have very fine, thin hair and it just doesn't grow much past my shoulders. So a bob it is!

I I think most older women should wear their hair short. I've noticed most older women with long hair wear very dated styles and it looks terrible! I'm sure there are exceptions to every rule though!

I have a very, very short pixie cut. It seems to work on me because I'm really feminine in every other aspect of how I look. Even with 1" spiked hair, I'm 100% girly girl. You do need a lot of confidence, though. No hiding!

Long hair:I did that for a long time, too, but no more. It's too safe: by definition long hair means you've got the exact same style year after year. I like to keep things interesting.

As for 'what guys like', I've found that I've been able to change a few people's minds about what constitutes sexy hair. Besides, if some guy turns me down because of my pixie cut, that's not the kind of closed-minded boy I want anyway! :)

I have long hair and I love it. I hate girls with short hair, it always looks bad. Long hair is beautiful, sexy, feminine, and hot. I think women cut their hair shorter as they age because of laziness or lack of time. To me, long hair represents youth and vitality.

I always had long hair until I chopped it thinking that it would be easier to take care of... didn't really work that way for me. I felt like I had to always style it for it to look good. I also hated how it looked in the morning. It would lay funny until I showered, didn't make me feel naturally sexy.

6:26...long hair suits most people, but only those with superior bone structure and good features can pull off a short cut well. Piece of advice: try to be more subtle with your jealousy in less anonymous contexts than this forum.

I wear my hair VERY short (like 1 inch long right after a cut). I don't care that guys like long hair better, *I* like my hair short. Quick & simple to wash, "style", brush, no gallons of crap in my hair, etc.

I did TRY to grow it long. Unfortunately, I have naturally curly hair -- the longer it got, the WIDER it got, and the longer I had to spend "fixing" it every day. I am NOT a morning person! When wet, my hair was hanging down to the middle of my back. When dry, it would barely brush the tops of my shoulders.

i was the first person to comment on this besides the OP... and i'll say, my husband loved my hair long like most men, but now he loves it short even more! it's all in your facial structure and confidence. i love my hair so much more now, it's so much more flattering to my face. and even though it's easier to fix, it doesn't look like it!

today i some guy friends came over who hadn't seen me in months kept commenting on how great my new short hair looks and they had no idea i had gotten it cut... i'm never going back to long and messy again!

When I got my hair cut in an inverted bob my husband told me he never wants my hair any other way. It's cut super short in the back (my stylist uses a clippers) but it gets longer towards my face. I love it, it's super easy and I am constantly getting compliments.

I really don't like to see long hair that consists mostly of split ends. If your hair is clean, healthy and suits your face and stlye, then who cares if it is short or long. I personally can't wear long hair. It makes my face look round. Short hair shows off my cheekbones and eyes.

Here's my story......after I cut my hair (about 5-6 inches off so it was well above my shoulders, but could just barely make it into a ponytail), my bf did not like it. He wasn't mad or anything, just says he likes long hair better. A friend of mine has the cutest short hair cut that I would love to do (she spends a long time styling it though). Her husbad loves her short hair. After chatting with some more friends and their likes and dislikes..............Turns out these guys liked exactly the kind of hair their mothers had/have....hmmmm....Freud anyone?

I have long (down to my waist), natural curly hair and I love it. The maintenance is a bit much at times, but it's worth it.

I also like alot of short styles women wear. Some women have the face for short hair and some don't. I'm one that doesn't. However, some women go short so they can have the wash and go look. That's fine, too, just not for me--doesn't look very kempt and gives the impression of laziness, which I am sure isn't their intention.

"Why do boys have to come along and mess it up." You can say that again, girlfriend! That's the story of my life!

Haha anyway. I had short hair for a lot of my young years (middle and high school). I started growing it out and now I am obsessed with my long hair. For me, it looks more natural and feminine. My short hair had to be styled to keep from looking boring and boyish. So actually long hair is much lower maintenence for me than short! And I guess I just don't like the stiff, angular cuts a lot of women with short hair have. Now some don't - I loved Keri Russell's short hair, and I will always love a swingy bouncy bob. But with my hair texture I couldn't do either of those styles. Now my hair is shoulder length and I am able to embrace my natural texture, and it looks much softer and freer and its easy to manage. I think a lot of women look better with some hair around their face rather than cut very short or pulled back tightly, but there are some super cute short hairstyles. It depends on the person, what works for them and their hair and what makes them feel confident. For me, I will never go back to short hair!

My hair has always been long, a few years ago it was down to my mid butt, long and curly, I decided it was too much and after 15 years of just trimming I cut off about 18" now I keep it just mid back still long. I would love to cut it short and sassy but I think you really have to have a certain bone structure and need to be thin for that.

if any of you decide to cut your long locks and want to do something extraordinary at the same time, you can donate your hair to several foundations that make wigs of human hair for cancer patients. one i know of is called "lock of love" and they accept donations of clean, healthy hair with a minimum length of 8-10 inches. there are a couple of middle school girls in my area who donated their hair while in elementary school and then grew it out and now just donated again. just thought i'd put that out there.

I like both and sometimes when you are ready for a change there is nothing wrong with getting a haircut. I have had long hair, short hair, bangs,no bangs.
Right now my hair is just below my shoulders and kind of blah!

I look better with shorther hair that frames my face when I am bigger. It hides my chubby cheeks;) Hopefully though if I can keep up my current weight loss I will look good with long hair again!

I've read that hair tells, on a primal level, how long that person has been in good health (for mating purposes).

I had beautiful long hair. Guys loved it and one friend told me if I ever cut it he'd be really mad.

Yet, in my early 20's I decided to try out the short hair. And I loved it!! I noticed men checked me out more with short hair than with the long.

Maybe this was becuase long hair made me look a good 5 years younger and they were afraid of robbing the cradle? ;)

I know men say they prefer long hair but most of them really don't care.

mine was very long the last few years, i called it mermaid hair. but when i lost weight it had to go too. it reminded me of who i was, and there's nothing but the future to look forward to. so i cut it off, in several stages it's now very short in the back and long in the front (yep it's the beckham 'do) and it's absolutely fabulous, and suits my sassy attitude!

well if you are thinking of less maintenance think again about having short hair. it is just as much hassel.
i have short hair, very short a crop, and i love it, its sexy and different. who wants to be the same as most other girks with long hair. i think short hair looks great on girls if you have the right face shape, like keria knightly.

i think you should change your opinion on girls with short hair.
i have a very short crop, i can either wear it flat or spiked, and it looks great, many girls and boys think the same. and if you had short hair you would understand that women dont hair shhort hare because they are lazy, they dont want to have long hair like most other girls, its good to be different and it is hard work trying to cope with short hair because you have to style it with lots of products. where as long hair you can just put it up in a bobble. short hair looks sexy and looks great with the right face shape

I like to donate 10" to locks of love every 2 years (my hair grows very fast), so I'm constantly going between long and short hair. Short is much easier to take care of, but it can be very fun to have long hair. With long hair, you just have to be sure to take good care of it.

Personally, length doesn't matter to me as style. I've seen some people made ugly by haircuts that didn't suit them. For example, people with really round faces who get short hair look really awful.

And when I say short, I mean between cheekbone and chin. Anything above that looks pretty bad on anyone but a supermodel. Unless you are over 60 and have it styled.

The best thing about hair is that it grows, so no matter what cut you get, you can always change it in a few months.

I have hair that is shorter than chin length, and I think I look pretty good, and I'm definitely no supermodel. I think you guys must have seen some pretty bad haircuts or styling where you live if you feel you can generalize and say that a certain haircut looks lesbian-ish or only looks good on a model

same here with locks of love. I've donated twice now in the past two years and realized that it's not necessarily the style or length of your hair, you just have to own it. Any length has potential. I think it's ridiculous when people refuse to give up their long hair. It's HAIR. it grows back. right now, mine's about mid-neck length, in a bob. I do this marilyn monroe type curl sometimes and it's adorable! short hair is so in.

My whole childhood my hair was mid back and I loved it as it was so easy for me to put it in a ponytail, pin it back in a variety of different styles, wear it up, or wear it down. I have alot of hair, but it is fine and very curly, so it worked well for me. When I really let it go, it can also look a bit straggly and in need of a trim. When I was 30 I had it cut up to my shoulders in a layered cut. I loved that even more. I could wash and go and it looked great. My hair is not the type that would look good any shorter then mid neck as it is too flyaway and does not tend to keep styles very well, plus I dont think it would be very flattering for my face.
Majority of guys dont care about the length of a girls hair as long as it looks good and like she cares about herself. They romanticize about long hair, alot of fairy storie show girls with long hair and rapists also like long hair. Sorry, that came out a little shocking didnt it, but it is true as it gives them control.
Each one of us is different. It is funny to read how one person says long hair is harder to keep up and the next one says short hair is harder. It depends on your individual hair and what you are willing to do for it.

I love short hair on women, if they have the right bone structure. I completely disagree with the earlier poster that said that women with short hair look boyish or like a lesbian....or are lazy. I often find the opposite is true. When I see women who wear their hair really long (which is very unusual in a big city), they appear older, more tired, and like they have little money to get their hair done. Especially when the women are in fact, older...

I do have longer hair. I'm currently growing it so that I can donate it. I can't wait for there to be enough length so that I can get it cut again!

long vs short

i think i've had almost every hair length you could possibly think of. i had it where it was only about an inch all over and spiked up in the back and slicked down in the front, i've had it chin length and choppy, and i've had super long hair too. and surprisingly, the short hair was more maintenance. i had to gel it every morning and i couldn't take a nap on it or anything cuz then it would flatten out and look like crap.
with long hair, i can jsut brush through it and towel dry it and throw it in a ponytail and it'll look fine all day. chin length is a good length though, that's pretty maintenance free.

Long vs. Short

I am 11 and have always had long hair, almost to my waist and I have always loved it! I have thick dark brown hair and my face still has childish roundness, so long has always worked for me but I want to try something different. I have curls when my hair is shorter and I love them, but I have the same problem: I am attached to my long locks. I really want to cut my hair in a kind of pixie cut with a little layers making it come out, almost like Alice's in Twilight. I just like that cut but am scared to do it because of my age and facial structure.
Personally I am saying Screw It and getting it cut! I don't care how it looks I am sick of long hair. It is almost like hiding in the shadows--a veil to hide behind and be normal. Short hair makes you be more confident because you have no place to hide, and long hair is a hassle to brush, shampoo, and at this length even getting it into a ponytail is trouble!

Lesbian-ish? What are we in Junior high school now? Whats wrong with being a lesbian, or looking like one? (Especially if one is.) For that matter whats wrong with being gay> Can't help who you fall in love with. Its a human emotion. More to the point though, I like both long and short. I have done both and everything in between. I have also done every color under the sun. I was midnight blue for my wedding invitations. Right now its to my armpits, maybe slightly below. I'm growing it past my waist like it was when I was 6 again. My hubbs is looking forward to seeing it long as since we've been together its only been short. I love long hair on guys though, and facial hair. (Johnny Depp! Yum!) Its a thing of mine. Funny though hubbs hair is short. He does have facial hair though and its dead sexy!

Hi, it's a fact, but most African American girls wear wigs. There's nothing wrong with that. Wigs perfectly complement the style of the girl. They can be voluminous and of different colors and shades. It's all a matter of your imagination. I recommend you a hd wig. You will definitely like it
