Can you weigh yourself too often?

I found that I was sabotaging myself a lot and related this to weighing myself every day. I reacted in unhealthy behaviors no matter which way it went. I then decided to do my own little experiment, and just stay off the scale for a while and do the best I could to manage healthy behavior. I lost 3 pounds!! How about the rest of you. Do you find that weighing every day can actually have a negative affect on your weight loss? I know that a lot of "experts" say that you should weigh often, but I'm not so sure that's the best advice. What do you think?

Absolutely. Every day. How else can you keep tabs? It's like trying to guess how much water you're drinking without using a container of any sort.

I weigh every day because it keeps me accountable and on my plan. However I don't obsess about the number as long as the general trend is downward. If I'm having a plateau then I'll eventually get over it, but if I don't weigh it's too easy to have that little extra piece of bread or help myself to a doughnut at work, etc...

The trick is not to react to the scale, but to be proactive about budgeting and planning your calories - then the scale is affirmation. How often is a reactionary plan very effective? It's usually poorly thought-out and short-sighted. Plan and affirm - don't panic and react. If you're not seeing the progress you think you ought to - examine your logs and activity and re-plan.

I'm sure there will be folks who say they do better without weighing, but to me it's like trying to save money without looking at your bank balance.

I can't weigh in everyday b/c the normal fluctuations mess with my head too much. I did best when I'd only weigh in every two weeks. Once I get to maintenance I can weigh in more frequently and not have it affect me, but daily weigh ins during weight loss mode does me no good!

I tend to be a little bit obsessive about weight loss, so I have my monday morning weigh in, and I check in around the end of the week to see where I'm at (and to see if I can relax a little over the weekend or not!). Other days I don't let myself get on the scale, otherwise I'd be on there 3 times a day and totally freaking over every little fluctuation.
