Need Motivation, fell off the wagon--HARD

I'm a student and up until recently my diet was going great!

Then, classes ended, I got my wisdom teeth pulled, and started going out with my friends celebrating the semester's end.

Now I weigh 171, more than I EVER have. It's only been two weeks and I gained about ten pounds. Im so upset. I love to workout, it's just the diet that's the problem.

I need motivation to get back in it, I was doing so well! Any diet tricks? Motivational words? I'm already working out, it's the eating (portion control) that I need to stop!!!! Especially at night.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."--Chinese

Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.
Confucius

Knowing is not enough; we must apply.
Willing is not enough; we must do.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

another one a friend gave me nothing taste as good as thin feels..

those are some quotes.. so you fell off the wagon.. we all do.. dont beat yourself up. pick up and start again. make the next thing you eat a healthy choice.

everything in moderation.. if you want something have it but know your limits

you can do this.. believe in yourself and hold andto your dream and reach for it. you can achieve it.

here is alist of things I have found and came up with that have helped me on my weight loss journey.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS

eat on smaller plates
pour salad dressing to the side.. dip your fork in it than spear your greens ..less dressing is used
keep fresh cut veggies in the fridge so its easy to grab. baby carrots, celery hearts, cukes sliced, brocolli
use salsa and spices to season things or kick up the taste a bit.
keep fresh fruit. like grapes something you can just grab thats heathy
laughing cow light.. lower in calories than most dips.
use only skim milk. trust me your taste buds will adjust to it.
make smoothies when baking so your not tempted to eat your baked goods you made for others.
use only wheat bread.
experiemnet with other flours and grains. I have found gram flour good for coating cihicken.
fry light or pam.. less fat
use eggplant slices in place of pasta in lasagna
or zuchini.
put your fork down between bites
drink a glass of water about 10 minutes before you eat. will feel fuller and eat less.
start a three bite rule on desserts. after that three bites its mindlessly eating for me. saves calories and no guilt about trying a dessert.
eat popcorn with no butter or salt. you will adjust to the taste of natural popcorn instead of smothered in butter and salt.
if you eat out take part home with you. portions served today are huge. we dont need to eat the whole thing in one sitting.
freeze local fresh juices in icecubes so you can have them in your drinks without watering your drinks down.
search recipes.. get creative. I found out brownies can be made without flour. not a lowfat dessert, but something I occassionally will have .
explain to everyone arround you what you are doing so they can be supportive and not try to derail your efforts.
get off your bums and move.. no excuses. at least thats what I tell myself.
make a commitment to go to the gym or walk three times a week
do 30 minutes everyday of some sort of exercise for a month. after that month it will be a habit.

these have helped me lose alot of weight. hope that helps

Hey. Are you by any chance a girl named Janey? Your story about how you got your wisdom teeth pulled out and how you like to work out sounds exactly like her. We might have been in the Young and Motivated group but you left. Anyway, I exactly know what you're going through-- I work out regularly and lift weights but the eating part is difficult. This is Mary Clare by the way (asgirl75) if this is you.

I like the one about nothing tasting as good as thin feels posted above. I went grocery shopping yesterday and had to keep asking myself "would I rather eat this or lose weight?" It felt pretty nice watching all the healthy foods go by on the checkout belt. Much better than the self conscious feeling of being the heavy girl buying chips and dip.

off the wagon

Ok to gain that much in that short of time is probably water. If you start drinking a lot of water and make sure you remove all the salt from your diet you will lose the water fast. Remember when you fall of the wagon as you put it only looks bad to you. You have trained your body to eat less. WHen you overeat you feel as if you failed your diet. You had a bump in the road. The thing is that yes you had a bad 2 week. IT is ok! It could have been worse you could have gained 20 pounds!!

yup, sounds like a little too much alchohol in the diet- always leads to a temp weight gain- water retention.

1st step- relax and realise it's not the end of the world. Not even the end of your diet or your success. It's a minor set back, a small detour on your path. You stopped to smell the roses, they weren't that sweet, so now you're heading back down your path to a healthier you.

Lots of us here turn to food when we get emotional- and if we had too much food and then stress ourselves over it, we still turn to food. It's a bad cycle. One way to end the cycle is to learn not to turn to food, the other is to not stress ourselves over little things.

As someone mentioned- drink a lot of water, watch your salt. I'd also suggest tyring yerba mate tea- great diuretic. (And great as a cold brew tea- throw a tea bag in your water bottle and go)

OP Here

Thanks for the motivation, all. I feel alot better.

So how bizarre is this--I weighed myself again today, after doing everything I was told to do (drink more water, cut back on salt), and I weighed 166.6!

What's this about?
