It seems like I am not getting anywhere!

No matter how much weight I lose, how little I eat or how much I excercise I still feel fat! Any suggestions on how to stay motivated and feel good about myself until I do reach my weight loss goal?

Take pictures. It may be the last thing you feel like doing, but the visual is way more powerful than what you see in the mirror (which is colored by your perception of yourself that day). Try to wear the same thing and be in the same pose.

I ended up doing this by accident almost. My husband and I hike alot and take the camera with us, so he always gets in a few shots of me. Thus I have this series of pictures taken over the past couple years and they show my slow progression to today. I'm always wear my hiking clothes or shorts and a tank top, and I'm usually standing by some cliff or waterfall, so it's sorta the same effect.

The visual record makes it obvious I've made progress and it's a powerful motivator.

I always found it helped to go to weight watchers meetings because the weekly weigh-in made me happy about my progress, and the meetings are structured to keep you motivated.

And it's not forever. After a while you figure out different ways to motivate yourself. I was able to maintain the weigh loss for 11 years without setting foot back in a meeting.

I don't feel like I look all that different, but I just had to go buy new pants b/c my old ones were too loose and baggy and unattractive! They didn't used to be loose! Obviously, I'm getting somewhere!

Body distortion, it happens to all of us at some point in time whether its a gain or a loss. I am the queen of this. Overall I have lost 61 pounds and I still feel like I don't look much small. I found an old picture of me at my heaviest and taped it to my bathroom mirror, now when I'm standing there naked I can totally see the difference. I think it really has a lot to do with how you feel about yourself. If you can find a good support group that can be really helpful.
