Weight/Height/Size
I think it would be interesting to compare our weights/height/sizes to see how all bodies are different. Normally these are such taboo questions but it works on this anonymous board.
Here goes:

just "graduated down" to a 14
looking at these posts, it seems as though many people are surely at their goal weight! An interesting follow-up would be: "How many women in the 10/12 size range feell that is still too big?"
Thursday, December 8, 2005, 6:46 PM
10/12 is too big for small frames, and maybe just right for taller women. At 5'3" my goal is a size 6 and 120 lbs.
Thursday, December 8, 2005, 7:27 PM

Where did you get that from? The average woman is a 14?? I don't know if I buy that. Perhaps the average woman on a diet is a 14. It also varies by age group. The average 20 year old is probably a size 6.
Friday, December 9, 2005, 6:40 PM
The average woman would be women of all ages.

Friday, December 9, 2005, 8:22 PM
well to stay on the subject and not what the average size of the "average" woman is, which I honestly think is a bunch of crap and makes some women that can't or have no desire to be that size is hurtful and depressing and very discouraging.....
now the question.....
I'm 239
5' 3.5"
size 20, 22 if cut small bottoms and tops 18-22 depending on cut but mostly the lower number
my hearts desire is to be no smaller that a 14 I think a size 16 would be perfect :-)
Friday, December 9, 2005, 8:28 PM
Why would anyone be hurt??? It's an average! How many older women do you see that are a size 6? The info wasn't put there to upset anyone. Everyone is different and should embrace their differences. When women age their bodies change. When women have children, their bodies change. That is what makes this post so interesting when you look at heights, weights and sizes. Everyone has different proportions. Women are beautiful and not cookie cutter cutouts (even though many women would like to be). Being healthy should be the most important thing. Because as anyone would tell you who has been very ill, you should never take your health for granted. It is the most important thing. If I'm going to be depressed, it certainly won't be over the fact that I'm not average.

What's funny is that when I weighed 120 before I got pregnant, I was BARELY into a size 6. My jaw dropped at the person who was 122 and a size 4, and it was so reassuring because we all do carry our weight differently!
Let's celebrate our different, beautiful body shapes and stop trying to look like models!
Monday, December 12, 2005, 11:52 AM
I'm the 5'1" 122lbs size 4 pants... I'm also at least a medium top (a 10 if they come in numbers instead of S-M-L). I'm also a D-cup. When I was 127 lbs, I was a solid size 6 pants. Now at 122, I'm a pretty solid size 4. I lost most of my weight around my waist, so my 6's sit too low and then drag on the floor... So somehow I lost a whole size by losing 5lbs. I didn't lose any size on top though! Oh, I'm also very muscular, so that's part of it...

jeans for women
to the poster above who commented on jeans for women...there are many many brands out there that have recently come out with better-fitting jeans for curvy women...
try the Gap's "curvy" fit jeans, or, if you have some cash to blow, check out Seven jeans or Citizens of Humanity. I bought both of the latter on ebay, and love love them!!
Tuesday, December 13, 2005, 6:36 PM
Really?! Not the poster from before, but, I CANNOT wear Seven or Citizen's, because by the time the hips get wide enough, I'm swimming everywhere else! It's like the top (I'd call it a waistline, but it's obviously lower than the waist) starts narrowing too soon, so the width that fits my hips around my butt squeezes fat out a few inches higher. I think they only work if you're dramatically smaller a number of inches below your belly button than you are at the very widest part of your hips. Women, on the other hand, tend to be narrow at the waist, but relatively wide from a few inches below there all the way down to their thighs...
Gap Curvy is fairly good, as is Old Navy Curvy. The ones that fit me best are Express, but only if I try on a ton - in the same size, same style, I have 3 pairs that fit totally differently! Also, Ralph Lauren - Ralph line is good, as is Calvin Klein. Sometimes you can find either of those at like TJ Maxx for cheap.

Though, I'm a 4/6 in today's clothes, and fit perfectly into some of my mom's clothes from the late 60's, and she wore a 9/10 then...
Wednesday, December 14, 2005, 3:41 PM
Yes sizes are getting smaller and smaller while this country is getting fatter and fatter. Vanity sizing is a real thing. My husband thinks womens pants/jeans should be labeled just like mens, waist/inseam.

re: who is unsatisfied?
check out this BMI calculator. It's amusing because you plug in your height/weight and get a suggested goal weight -- but let's say you hit that goal? Plug THAT in, and you'll get a lower goal weight! Just goes to show people are never satisfied :)

Yes, wouldn't it be great if sizes were like men's? It's ridiculous us all (4' - 6') trying to fit into the same small spectrum of options. Of course, the longer they have us in there trying stuff on, the more likely we are to buy something.

BMI Calculator
It's not the BMI calculator that's screwed up. It's us! The "goal weight" that it gives you is the weight that people at that same weight/height/age say they DESIRE to be. So the "ideal" weight that keeps decreasing shows exactly what the OP stated: "that people are never satisfied". No matter what weight they are, they always desire to be at a lower weight.

Currently I wear a L on top (I've banished my XLs because they tend to be too big and shapeless!)
and about a size 14 or 15 (16s tend to look like someone else's pants on me)
My problem has always been that my thighs are muscular-- I've had problems with pants not fitting because when the thighs fit, the waist is about 2 sizes too big. I also have a lot of muscle in my calves, so proper "long boots" are a pain in the butt as well! :-( I usually have to wear petite pants and regular length tops. (the sleeves on petites tend to be too short)
I don't have much in the chest area, so fit can sometimes be a problem because I am also broad-shouldered!
At my best size/weight, I was 138 lbs and about a size 9/10

Size: Wow has that changed drastically. The problem that I run into is that my legs are very muscular and my waist is now tiny .... so I range from a size 2 to a size 5 depending on the pants/jeans. I must that it is much different than the size 9/11 i use to wear a year ago!

Size depends on brands. Anywhere from a 6 (should buy more of this brand) to 10 (buy less of this brand) for bottoms. My hips are bigger than my waist, so it's hard to find jeans that fit properly. Any good brands that you have found?
Tops are a M or L, depending on length. I don't like belly shirts and I am long torso-ed.

When I got pregnant the first time I only weighed 100lbs soaking wet. After having my third child I weighed 165lbs. This may not seem much to some people but to me it was devistating to realize the difference a few pounds make on your emotions and physical endurance. I could barely get through the day with only one nap. Now that I have lost half of the weight I feel great! I am going for 15 more lbs and I can't wait till this summer to show off what I have lost this winter:o)

Has anyone noticed that some people seem to have a "height issue"? My best friend is only 4'11" tall and she is constantly worrying about how short she is. I think that her height is what makes her unique. I think it would be a boring world if we were all 5'10" don't you? I want to send a support message to all those women who are only 5' or so-"You go girl! Don't ever wish to be taller. Just think those pretty little fairies are only 2" tall:o)

I don't want to sound like any of the other one's who are bashing some things, but I hate to tell you that you shouldn't be wearing junior clothing after a certain time in life. Most junior stuff is cut with no hips because most of them haven't developed any curves down below the belt buckle. Of course I am aware that some people have small frames but again at a certain age it's time to get out of the junior department and go to misses. Misses clothing fit the wiser women much better due to curves. Also if you want to ruin the success you are having while getting healthier then you should shop in the juniors department. Move up and wear the even numbers.

Recall on changing sizes
Does anyone else have this thought? When I was about 18, I wasn't hughely overweight - 145 to 150 and I was stuck in size 14/16. Later - 24 or so - same weight - I tried on a dress that was a size 9! Was I shocked or what. Since then, I watched the sizes in clothes and I've notices a slow creep. What I once wore at 145 I can now wear at 190. Hmm - what ever is going on in the clothing world?

Goal: 121.
Age 51, female.
134 lbs. (-ish. Need to get a scale.) Was around 125 for a number of years but my weight crept up this past year when I was busy eating high-calorie- high-fat and busily averting my eyes as I did it. :-)
5.2
Size: When I'm around 125, I wear size 6-8. Those clothes are stretching uncomfortably tight right now, buttons popping, zippers not closing properly, etc. I'm well aware that these numbers are "vanity" sizes. I remember quite clearly when I was 17 years old, I weighed 117 and wore a size 7. (And, I might add, thought I was fat fat fat. Oh, our poor messed up female psyches.)

It's not July 15th..
I'm still 5'4"
but I'm down to 168! :-)
Not sure of exact current size because I haven't bought any clothes (and don't plan to until just before fall or if I absolutely need to...
Current size I think is around a 12/14--a dress I ordered for a friend's wedding in December had to be taken in 3 inches in the waist and all around! :-) Also, a dress that fit me snugly last August (when I bought it, it was labeled a size 14) had to be taken in 2 inches this summer.
I'm totally loving it. and am looking forward to losing at least 2 more dress sizes!
(Today I put on a Blue Jean Vest that's been hanging in my closet for years--Not only can I now button it, there are not unsightly bulges at the armpit holes and there's even a little room to spare! :-)

5'4"
176 lbs (my best size was around 138 lbs)
Saturday, July 15, 2006, 3:29 AM
oops, I meant "it's NOW July 15th" .... Too bad we can't edit our comments once posted!
Saturday, July 15, 2006, 3:29 AM
Note on the bridesmaids dress from December--the stupid salon should have ordered me a Junior 16 (due to my lack of chest) but ordered me a Women's 16.... Therefore, it was not just a little big, I had to wear fake boobs because it would have cost me a fortune to have the top altered to fit.
For me, even though I'm in my late 30s, I tend to wander into the junior sections of the store. I lack any type of curves (boobs or butt) and women's sizes look absolutely ridiculous on me...

To the person who wrote:
"I went through and found everyone who is 5'10" (my height) because that is the one thing I can't change... Here's how it plays out.
size 6/8 weighs 138
size 8 weighs 146.8
size 10 weighs 164, 165 and 167
size 12 weighs 170 and 175
size 14 (ME) weighs 204.5
size 16/18 weighs 270
size 18/20 weighs 225 and 303.5
I don't know what to think. But it's interesting. "

I am in the unfilled 150's category, weighing 156.

My size at various weights, etc. (5'2 1/2")
Great idea! Here are my sizes at various weights that I've been:
My height: 5'2 1/2"
165+ - size 14
165 - size 12
158 - size 10
143 - size 8 (not sure why I have to lose a ton of weight to drop from a '10')
140 - size 8 (fits better with less tummy 'poot')
134 - size 6
125 - size 4
117 - size 2-4
My highest weight was 165 (+?); lowest 117. Right now I'm 140 and in a comfortable size 8. I'm training for a marathon and eating right and creating a calorie deficit (for the most part), so I'm hoping to be around 125-129 by my marathon on Oct. 1 and then maintain that weight thereafter. Not too long ago, I couldn't run 1/4 mile without feeling like I was going to die (proof to me that just about anything is possible). :) Feel free to track my progress on my public log (link below) and leave a comment/helpful advice/question if you wish. I love to dish about health, fitness, weight loss, etc.
Best wishes to you all -- we are all TRULY beautiful. Remember, it's about the journey! Right now you are becoming. Each day, you reach a new goal! Do not beat yourself up because you're not "there" yet. You are there right now! :)

I like my clothes big and shapless (mostly because i never had much of a shape) But I wear them much smaller than I did. I put my high school letterman jacket on and it was totally huge! I can still wear pants that I had in high school and college. Some of the jeans are a little snug (msotly 11s and 12s) but my favorites still fit (LL Bean lined jeans, size 12 and comfy 14s).

whoever started this post, I love them. I'm a little late on finding this thread haha, big big bump up. Having had an eating disorder (normal > underweight > overweight-ish) and now finding fitness as a way to recover, this was crazy to see.
I'm 5'6" and only 18 yrs old. I've been:
98 lbs at sizes 0/2. (I think I was only 5'3" or 4" though)
118 lbs at sizes 2/4.
130 lbs at sizes 4/6.
160 lbs at sizes 8/10.
156 lbs. at sizes 6/8. (now, muscle woo!)
it's funny, because now, just with muscle, I can pull off significantly smaller jeans, despite a higher weight. Now, I'm dieting for cheerleading and a bodybuilding competition, and I frankly don't give a damn about how my WEIGHT changes, so long as the jeans and the bodyfat percentages go lower.

PT has helped alot , but I lost 165 on my own. at 165 I wore a size 35
I now wear size 16 at 186 pounds. I have some 18's but way too big. have to wear a belt, but I intend to lose more so dont want to waste alot of money buying new clothes I wont stay in for long. so Im making do with what I have for now,
good luck to everyone. I will keep updating this as I reach my goal weight..

while i may have hips and bootie, i like feeling healthy and being active. i have a friend who is maybe 5'4" and she eats crap. hamburgers every day. she also eats what she describes as a whole cake in the morning. she smokes almost a pack a day and sleeps late and doesn't exercise. she has a toddler girl. she is under 100 pounds and everyone thinks she is hot stuff. well, i pride myself in being healthy. While i work my ass off and get up early to work out and don't smoke, I still have a ways to go. And it is a little annoying that she does nothing and is a size 0. I am quite confident that I will live a better life in the longrun, and i will be a good role model for my child.

This may be a difficult question to answer but, do you have anyone near by to help support the weightloss cause...or help with getting groceries in the house?

geez....sometimes a 12 14 or 16 (big hips and small waist = that annoying gapping or a muffin top if I wear a smaller pair)
Long arms = large top.............small chest/waist = small or medium top.....all of which means nothing ever fits quite right.

These may not be entirely accurate anymore, because I've been living in New York for three months and walking way more than I have in recent years. I haven't really been paying attention to how my eating has changed, or if it has (well, I've been eating a lot more greek food...shawafel from Chickpea...mmm). When I get home I'll have to re-measure and weigh and whatnot.

=(
I used to be a size 14 when I was about 190 something. I want to be around a size 12. From reading some of the information, I've drawn the conclusion that I need to weight anywhere from 168-183 to accomplish this. I think I can. When I lose weight, I tend to lose alot of it rather quickly. My Thighs are my problem. I'm rather flabby... lol If I could tone up I think I would be okay.

It is very strange how peoples bodies differ. Another person who was 5'11" and fit into a size 10 was 147 lbs. I weigh 40+ and i can fit into a 10....odd....

Congratulations Friday, August 10, 2007, 1:44 PM! That is great.
My weight is 211 and at my highest it was 238
I am 5'10" (female, I am assuming that all of us are)
I were an 18, sometimes and at my highest weight more comfortably an 18W
Since being on this site I am very, very close to a 16 and can wear some of them. 17 years ago I weighed 123 and wore a size 7. My goal is 150. The best weight for me when I was younger was 136, however, I will be satisfied with 150 because I am older. I have small bones. That is why I give the weight I do as a goal.
Interesting Post.

hmmm....
Ok, this whole thing is kinda depressing. Are you ppl that say you are fat when you wear a size 8 or smaller seeking help? I just find it extremely discouraging.
I'm 5'5 and weigh 280lbs. I lost 5lbs last week and was extatic. I wear a size 22 for the most part.
I just don't understand how someone that is a size 4/6 can say she has a big butt. It is just disheartening. I would love to be a size 14. The last time I was that size though, was in eigth grade, and I'm now 26. Maybe there is some kind of support out there to let you know that YOU ARE NOT FAT!!! Hell, if I was healthy, I'd be content at this size, but I'm not, so I must do something, because my health is important, not totally about what size I am.
Sorry if I tick anyone off, it's just hard to actually be a fat girl and hear such negativity from people that are so much smaller.

People have always been surprised to hear my weight because they think I weigh less (in pounds). I am very muscle-y. I have to remind myself - muscle weighs more than fat. The only time I got to my "goal weight" in college is when I was anorexic and my body was eating away at the muscle. I became so obsessed with reaching that number I didn't notice I was losing strength. Now my goals is to be a healthy 4/6, and RIPPED.

Hard to say sizes because sizing can be sooo different. I tried on 14 pants at JC Penny's and they were too big (Izod I think) but then another pair of 14's by a different brand were just right. Then a different brand at a trendy type store I couldn't even fit my up my hips. It all depends on where you shop I think, which is one of the reasons why we are all showing so many sizes for such different weights.

I am so very very inspired, to see weights of gals my height over the 140/50... as whoever started this said, even my husband would probably guess I am in that range -- cuz that is what we hear all the time, women are 120 to 140lbs
But also wanted to add... since I am going to a gym that uses a BODY FAT measure tool, NOT BMI, I am focusing on that
Currently 32%,,, started 2 months ago at just over 35%.... As I am of athletic build, will always have higher weight and bmi..
Aiming for 25% BF, and back to comfortable size 10, dont care what wt.

Useful Info!
I'm almost 5'2" (i like to say 5'1" and 3/4 :) )
I weigh anywhere from 115 to 120 (currently around 116). I wear a Size 0P in most sizes, but depending on the clothing and store, I will wear a size 2P. My Waist is 26, Hips ~34 and Bust ~32. Of course, if I put on some weight, I can go up an inch here. I'm small boned, and people say i'm muscular/lean but to tell the truth all I see are fat arms and thighs and a waist that could be smaller!
I definitely love to eat and have been told i eat a lot 'for someone my size.' I definiely know guys that I eat more than :). I tend to look smaller than I am - most people say I look like 95 lbs or around 100; i personally think that's an exaggeration.
I think as a society we're so engrossed with sizes but yet we can't determine what a heathy weight is and looks like in many cases.
It was definitely a bit of an eye opener for me, reading the other stats posted here.
Thanks for sharing!

Useful Info! - Question
Hi ladies,
I posted the thread titled Useful Info! but after reading the threads posted after me, I have a question for the group - anyone, please feel free to join in.
From what I've read, some of the ladies here are lighter and shorter than me, but seem to be wearing a bigger size; what are your thoughts in terms of how this can happen; seemingly lighter and shorter women wearing bigger sizes than women heavier and taller? Could it be the fact that we shop at different stores and so the sizes are not really different but the same in the long run?
I posted my stats Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 10:21 PM if you need to look back to provide feedback; the reason i asked is because I read the following post:
4' 11 3/4
weight 110
size 8 Tops 8-10
I would think I should fit into smaller clothes!!! But I better not get into comparing or I'll feel sad. I've never been in clothes smaller than an 8--even at 100 pounds--long, long ago.
Saturday, January 24, 2009, 7:05 PM
I appreciate your feedback! I've always wondered about this, and now seemed like a good time to ask.
Thanks! (BTW - I'm 26, almost 27)
Friday, May 1, 2009, 12:01 AM
um. what?
How does a statistical average hurt your feelings? That's why it's science, it's not tailored to what you want to hear. The point being made is to give encouragement to the 12-14s who feel like they are too big. As far as some women "not being able" to be that small, a size 14 is really not an unreasonable standard. This is just an example of the obesity epidemic tainting everyone's thinking. If you think you couldn't be that "small" it's because you don't have the willpower to get off your a** and exercise and eat right. The fact is that obesity is unhealthy. Encouraging people to embrace their size when they are clearly unhealthy (obese) is like telling people not to quit smoking because it makes you look cool. Toughen up and get real.

Oh, yeah. Goal: 120-125. And a solid size 6.
I know it will be difficult 'cos I'm quite busty, especially for my age. But I really need to stick to my diet. 10 months ago, I was 125, and I miss it. Ten pounds has equalled ten more pounds of unhappiness (though, I think I'm smaller, so I guess most was muscle?)

ok guys to those that keep saying people are too skinny to be on PT.. PT is not a weight loss site.. its a Support site.. people come here to maintain weight, release weight, work on exercising, portion control, building up speeds for runners.. , support about whats going on in thier daily lives.
were here for the family atmosphere and the accountability to ourselves and our peers..support is what this site is about whatever you need support for.
at least my groups and teams are like family to me.. we also discuss more than health, weight.. we discuss our daily lives.. because even though some may think things are not diet related as I hear a lot.. you would be surprised whats going on with your daily lives affects your emotions on the outside and therefore affects your eating..
so lets just support one another and be there for each other.

Excel WORKSHEET
Everyone has been looking to how all this data works for them. Well, I am here to save the day. I have 700 different data points (height, pants size, weight). Did a little of my stats skills and made an excel worksheet to give you averages of all the women at your specific weight group. I give a few directions in the worksheet, but feel free to message me for more information on how to work the worksheet. I have disabled the computation on the worksheet so you have to hit F9 to get it to compute. Also, it takes a few seconds to calculate everything as its a lot of IFs it has to search through before calculating the averages and counting. Be sure to read the comments for further instructions on how to read the worksheet. Follow the link to download the worksheet :D Its in .xlsx.

re: shooting for a comfy size 10
I might be average in my size 12/14, but my goal is not a goal weight. My goal is to change my mind! cognitive behavior therapy is changing my relationship with food. i won't be satisfied until i understand WHY i overeat. WHY i'm addicted to food.
i know wrong thread for discussion, but i'm excited about cognitive behavior therapy for losing weight- and i wanted to let all the sweet peertrainer people know about it.

Well, I'm not 100% sure I should post anymore because I feel as though people who need to lose a lot, can sometimes forget it can be hard to lose a little. Similarly, some people will be happy at different sizes, and I think it is fair for everyone to seek help feeling beautiful, whatever that means for them.
I am currently approximately 150lbs (though I don't have a scale yet). I am 5'7''. I am a size 12. I am hoping to be 5'7'' and approximately 120lbs, but I have a fairly slender frame and don't think this would be under. I'm not sure what size that would be.

Its always very complicated for me to buy shirts because I am an XL in my bust and a small in my waist. This is exactly me too! And yes, I am more solid with good muscles. I feel really good when I weigh more in the 160-170 range, which sounds like still a lot, but I think its a muscle thing.
