Alcohol trick

So, I'm 23 and, anthoulgh I AM NOT an alcoholic and don't drink too often, when I do I always worry about the caloires. Everynow and then my girlfriends want to go blow off some steam (after finals or after a big academic week).

Anyhow I just wanted to share a trick I used last night, it helped me drink less, stay hydrated and lower cals.

For every drink or beer I had, I forced myself to order a water, too. I ended up only having about 3.5 beers, but for a WHOLE night of hanging out, that's good. I'm not hungover and I didn't ruin my diet. Yey!

I do the same thing ! it really does make a big difference when you drink a lot of water between the other stuff ! and I also don't have a hangover the next day !

A good substitue for water is diet 7up or selzer - it's still fizzy so it doesn't feel so flat btwn beers!

Water between drinks is a good way to cut the calories / save a few bucks / and detour a hangover / I was also told years ago that if you trying to cut calories and still want to have a drink on occasion then drink alcohol that is lighter in color, vodka, light rum or gin, they have less calories then the darker ones, still the calories in alcohol are considered empty calories so if you are trying to lose weight then limiting the amount and drinking water in between was a great choice and if you get to the point where you want to still go out with the friends and give it up completely, most clubs will provide you with free non-alcoholic drinks all night if you are the designated driver , just ask (at least they used to but its been a while since I used to party) Good luck and thanks for the tip

I drink bloody marys and then a water after each. Granted, bloody mary mix generally has a lot of sodium, but the tomato juice has antioxidants and makes you feel full. After about 2 bloodys and 2 waters, I'm done, several hours have passed and I don't wake up with a horrid hangover.

I like spicy and a bloody mary is great and if you want to cut calories have it without the alcohol, I ask for extra trimming, it's nice you get a salad and drink all in one, and a water chaser is a great idea to

How bad is a margarita or two?

I work at a bar and know that margaritas are the worst! Anything with sweet and sour is actually really bad for you! So many calories and sugar carbs! I have heard that one margarita is equivalent to eating 6 krispy creme doughnuts. Who knows if thats true. But I do not like to get margaritas at restaurants anymore. Some grocery stores have the 1 carb margarita mix that I sometimes buy that I will make if I am really in the mood. But overall, I say no.

If you are at home with the girls or just want to make a treat for yourself, you can always make a "kind of dauquiri". I just put strawberries, bananas and ice in the blender and then when its all blended, add 2 or 3 shots of clear rum and blend it again for just a few seconds. Healthy and pretty low cal and gets the job done!!

I've heard frozen margaritas at restaurants are between 600-1000 cals, in general.

I just read something I thought was interesting it said to Avoid caffeinated or alcoholic drinks" they are diuretics and will dehydrate you, it said that for every 6 oz of caffeine or alcohol it requires an additional 10 to 12 oz of water to re-hydrate you... so if you do drink alcohol or caffeine then drinking water in between is definitely a good idea!

Last night I went out to eat, did good with the food, swordfish and vegetables, but had 3 glasses of wine. Not going to do that again for awhile, as wine turns to sugar and then fat. Also didn't sleep well.

I haven't joined any groups yet or decided what kind of diet plan to follow but, this one is gonna be a big problem for me. I loveee my beer. Not even light beer, the dark ones! I go out Fridays and Saturdays and well, I'm not the least bit of a light drinker. I can drink by the pitcher! :( Does the whole glass of water between beers help because I just gave up smoking and I don't think I'm ready to give up beer just yet :(

Any suggestions?! Helpp!!!!!!!!!

Alcohol

Try a South Hampton. Three drops of Angostura Bitters on ice, Schweppes diet tonic (no calories, no aspartame) and a slice of lime. it's delicious and satisfying - just a hint of alcohol.

Cheers!

I appreciate the tip on drinking water. Since I stared my diet 3 1/2 weeks ago, I have not had a drink. However, I miss the occassional glass of wine with dinner, and have plans to go out with some friends a week from Friday. I'll give the water a try, and thought I may stick to light beer, as I know how many calories in each. When drinking liquor, it's the mixers that kill you. Tonic and juices are too high in claories. At home, I drink vodka and Fresca - low in calories and refreshing!

Yes, thanks for the tips! I am always on the look-out for tips on the drinking aspect. I have always been a big wine drinker, most every night, altho I have really cut down. But does anyone know if wine is worse to drink than say, a vodka with diet sugar free mixer??? Very curious about the sugar in wine. Could be why I've been at my plateau for so long??

ON Weight watchers they both would have a point value of 2, so I assume they are pretty close.

I've been ordering fruity vodkas with soda, like a Stoli Raz and soda, or an absolut pear and soda. they're refreshing, not so swet that you guzzle them - they're easy to nurse for a while. And I think the tip about water between each drink sounds great, though it will certainly take some discipline!!
