homemade pop tarts?
I have a loved one who is NOT trying to lose weight, but who needs to cut back on processed foods. You know how it is, we all have a processed food we just can't do without? In this case it is pop tarts. I have come across a couple of recipes online for homemade ones (see link below). Has anyone else made these? Do they come out okay? Has anyone tried them substituting whole-wheat flour?

First off with all that vegetable shortening your better off just buying the whole foods one in the freezer section of most stores that carry natural or whole foods. Like Amy's or there are a few others.

OP here -- in case anyone was wondering, I tried the recipe (using organic shortening w/ no hydrogenated fats, for those who care) and it doesn't work well as written -- without extra shortening, the dough is too dry to even roll out. Of course, adding the extra shortening throws off the nutritional data and calorie breakdown.
