Burning extra fat

A friend told me a few years back that doing any cardio after lifting weights will burn extra fat. Is there any truth to this? Besides the cardio warm up, is there any benefit to doing more at the end of a workout?

The only obvious benefit to adding cardio work at the end of a weight routine would be that, because of the additional work, you would burn more calories.

I'm personally skeptical, however, that doing cardio work at the end of a weight workout would do more to burn fat than doing the cardio work at any other time.

I think the only benefit to doing cardio after weights is that you can usually get a better weight workout because your not tired from cardio.

Burn extra fat

I think that the *idea* is as follows: During the first 20-30 minutes of your workout, it is thought that you may just be going through available sugars in your system (available from the last time you ate) and that weight loss begins AFTER the available food hanging out in your system is gone. So . . . if you used the weight workout (which may not have the same kind of sustained intensity to burn fat that a cardio workout would) to burn through the food then your entire cardio workout would be devoted to fatburning.

For the record I just want to say that this is what I half remember from a few years ago and that I may be misremembering and, either way, I am not sure if this information would be accurate.

Lactic Acid

My personal trainer told me that its best to do cardio after weight-lifting/strength training b/c the cardio gets the lactic acid moving out of your muscles. This is the reason the trainers/experts tell you to do cardio even if you're sore. The acid contributes to the soreness.
