How much water is too much water?

I know that the number on the scale is not always the best way to gauge weight loss, but Im intent on keeping at it (normally its my biggest nightmare). Its more of an accountability thing than anything else.

Anyhow, I drink water throughout the day because i want to feel full, but im afraid it will start increasing my water weight and make me bloated.

Water will not make you bloated - it works to flush your system, and un-bloats you. It's mostly sodium that causes water retension (bloat). The more water you drink, the more you dilute the sodium and flush it through you, and the less water you will retain.

You can actually drink too much water - it occasionally happens in extreme cases, mostly with athletes who work out for very extended periods of time (i.e. marathoners.) Too much water is actually toxic to your system, and people have died from it.

That being said, sipping on water throughout the day is not going to do that to you. Look at how much you're drinking. Are you getting in 8 glasses of water a day? (64oz) That's a lot of water, and it still doesn't put you even close to the risk of toxicity. If you're chugging gallons at a time, you probably have something to worry about. If you're just drinking it through the day, you're fine.

from Wikipedia:

Water intoxication (also known as hyperhydration or water poisoning) is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain function that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside of safe limits by a very rapid intake of water.[1] Normal, healthy individuals have little to worry about accidentally overconsuming water. Nearly all deaths related to water intoxication in normal individuals have resulted either from water drinking contests, in which individuals attempt to consume several gallons over the course of just a few minutes, or long bouts of intensive exercise during which time electrolytes are not properly replenished, yet massive amounts of fluid are still consumed.

Drinking water is the key to weight loss.

Here's a thought. Your body is 55-65% water. The more water you drink, the more of the "old stuff" gets flushed through. Like an oil change.
