High-protein diet linked to constipation?

Just wondering...
I heard that when you ingest too much protein, you can get constipated. Weird.

Is this true? If so, whats a low-calorie way to up the fiber intake? I take fiber tablets but they are 35 cals per serving and the rec. serving amt. per day is 5 times. (Not cool)

A high-protein diet will give you constipation if you are not eating enough fiber. Along with the protein add high fiber foods such as cabbage, broccoli, and other green leaft veggies. Also find a low sugar high fiber cereal and or bread that is allowed on your diet.

Focus on real foods when it comes to fiber. You get lots more nutrients and costs a lot less.

10:04 has is right, you need some fiber or you will be "bound-up." I think the hard thing about high protein diets can be tricky to tolerate long term. Just make sure you get SOME kind of carb i.e. carrots because re-gaining the weight a lot of the time is attributed to "over-carbing" your body after you've been denying it.

a tip for "unleashing the hounds"- Bolthouse Farms Vedge Juice. Drink a big bottle and your problems will end very very quickly.

Some grains like couscous and veggies like avocado are relatively high in fiber and protein.

I eat three to four oz of protein with every meal. I have been on and off so many different meal plans in the past year that my body has no idea what's going on! At one point I didn't "go" for six days and that's not good! I started taking magnesium tablets and now no matter what I'm eating my bowels are very regular. I started with the 250 mg tablets and have now settled on 750 per day. Best suggestion anyone has every given me about poop problems :)
