Would you give up a year of your life to be thin?
This was from my purpose driven life calendar:
We all need mercy, because we all stumble and fall and require help getting back on track. We need to offer mercy to each other and be willing to receive it from each other. God says, “When people sin, you should forgive and comfort them, so they won’t give up in despair” (2 Corinthians 2:7 CEV)
It reminded me in life we all have many struggles and weight another one of them so don’t give up in despair dust your self off and jump in with both feet!!! cc

would you give up a year of your life to be thin?
I once read a question that went like this: Would you give up a year of your life to be thin? Well that took all of a second to answer of course I would… then a few thoughts raced through my mind… I wonder how many years I’ve already givin up by living an unhealthy life style or how my more years will be cut short if I don’t change my habits? … and then the irony hit me … I’m now 100 pounds over weight and if I started today it will take a good year of solid dedication to lose 2 lbs a week and get back to 137 lbs… it means starting to focus on me and what I need to do to achieve this… I love my husband and want to be a help mate and lover not a burden so I’m taken action today! Feel free to join me on the journey and with God’s help and our commitment we can achieve our individual goals together!

Lets Be Realistic !!!
If someone is 100lbs overweight you are already giving up 1 year of your life, if not 2 maybe 5 or even 10.
100lbs can shorten your life because of diabetes, stroke, heart attack, or maybe you don't even die early, maybe you lose a limb to diabetes, or maybe you can't walk or talk because of stroke. That is the reality of obesity so wake, up, stop relying on your almighty and get started, because maybe just maybe you can get your life back

I’m sorry if my personal recognition of needing more then my own will power offended you, and as you so bluntly put it (I have woke up) and realized I needed to do something which is why I just joined this site, looking for others who have and are struggling with weight and have or are facing serious health issues because of it. You are very correct in your assessment of health risks for someone 100lbs overweight but as far as your suggestion for me to stop relying on my almighty as you put it, well the truth is I never have relied on him and I think its time I do so that’s a choice I choose to keep but I appreciate your words of encouragement and wish you luck with what ever your needs are for being on this site.

Keep trusting the Lord Jesus Christ
Proverbs 3 5-7
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 ¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
You keep trusting in the Lord and read the Bible everyday. He will direct your paths if you read and talk to him.
I know, He has helped me so much.

Can I chose which year I get to lose?

Talk About a Misleading Thread Title
If I knew what this thread was before I had stumbled into the religious section, I never would have come.
Why does EVERYONE need to preach.
Eat less, exercise and lose weight , there you go.

Religion has become the national disease. It has infected every corner of our lives. So f***ing sick of the endless sanctimonious preaching too.
Monday, June 25, 2007, 3:23 PM
Sorry if I offended or wasted your time
Not trying to preach was sharing a personal realization that I didn’t gain the weight over night and that it won’t come off by thinking it away, it was a realization of how many years I’ve wasted and the fear of what could come if I don’t take action now. It was that realization that finally got my attention and scared me enough to finally take action before it's too late. I will not apologize for what I believe but if my saying so offended you and you feel it wasted your time for that I do apologize because that was not my intent and you are correct to lose weight I need to Eat less and exercise more but for some that’s not enough and that’s where I choose faith because I do need more so thank you for your suggestions and I hope you are also successful in achieving your goals.

Wow
What an eye opener it shocks me that some people find words of hope and encouragement a waste of time or even offensive and label it preaching how sad I just hope everyone who is struggling with a weight or health issue can find what ever strength they need to win the battle because it’s not always easy. Good Luck everyone!

Yes it is simple if you have the discipline to do it. As for me being on this site, I am using it to maintain now that I have lost the weight, and how did I lose the weight hmmmmmm???? Eating less and exercising.

read the title

I think the previous post was asking why you're here on this particular thread... The title is "Would you give up a year of your life to be thin?" Answer the question and try to stay on topic. If you just want to rant, how about you start your own thread: "Who do you look down on?" or "Why am I better than you?" or "What do you believe in that I hate?" or "How can I put someone else down today?" That wayall the so-very-successful haters out there can dish it all out AND stay on topic at the same time!
I think I probably would give up a year of my life if I knew I could stay thin without all the work. But just to get thin? Nah... I can do that on my own without giving up life-time.
Monday, June 25, 2007, 5:35 PM
Answer to the original question!
Absolutely!
Monday, June 25, 2007, 7:04 PM
I started to answer the question without thinking. And probably no. Because what would I miss out on in that year. One of my loved ones having a child or precious moments spent with someone dear to me. But then I thought you know you can take it differently. Like one said, or how I took it, To give up a year of eating what I want and doing what I want and disciplining myself to eat healthy and live healthy and..... Then the hope is that by the end of that time I would have the energy and lifestyle that would support that loss of weight and it would no longer be giving anything up.
In that way I would definately give up a year and maybe more and I believe that is what I am doing.
Good luck or blessings to all who are in this struggle with me.
And I am with you OP I coudn't do it without help from my Lord either.

To Ms. or Mr. Just eat less and exercise more hmmmm...
I agree it’s usually our lifestyles that gets us into trouble in the first place so evaluating how we got to this point and what may be contributing to it is important to making tough choices to improve our health and life WHAT I DON’T AGREE with is a blanket statement that the only “truth is to Eat less and exercise more” a friend of mine died from that misguided advice after her body shut down from a steady diet of 500 calories a day with exercise… was that a foolish extreme you bet it was but what happens in some cases is when you are not eating the appropriate amount of calories a day to meet your bodies needs it can go into a starvation mode and hold on to those unwanted pounds so you eat even less thinking that’s what’s needed when in fact you need to eat more… I don't agree with putting people down but to use such a blatant ignorant statement as just eat less and exercise more hmmmmmmm...is down right stupid...people need to find out what the healthy balance is for their individual body size and your Doctor can help you with that and start eating appropriate for your situation... since not everyone has been as blessed as ms. or mr. just eat less and exercise more, it might be beneficial to seek out and educate yourself about proper nutrition and also learn about proper techniques on exercise and start implementing it into your daily activities… after a while you will be amazed at how good you’ll feel…
So for those of you who are at goal – congratulations!
For those who are struggling - don't give up
For those who are new - don't let ignorance turn you away from this site, find a supportive group and give it all you can!

To the person, who stated, EAT LESS AND EXERCISE MORE...Thank you for your input. I am on this site because I know what I need to do, I think we all do. However, I come here for mental support and to feel connected to others who might be sturggling with the same issues. It's great that you were able to lose the lbs and perhaps you might not have needed the nurturing. I think you are a good person and probably are trying to help, but we all could use more posititve attitudes around us. Don't you think?
Sunday, July 8, 2007, 9:28 AM
No way!
Sunday, July 8, 2007, 9:59 AM
Wow, at first I was taken aback by eat less and exercise mores attitude I honestly could not believe someone could be so unsupportive on what is suppose to be a support web site, then It ticked me off and now I honestly feel sorry for who ever it is, they must really be a sad and lonely person to be that miserably spiteful but I am glad they reached their goal that’s super! I guess it goes to show that no matter where or what we do in life there will always be people who truly want to help and those who are selfish and want to bring us down DON’T LET THEM DO IT! We make our own choices and if you choose to let them bring you down then you made that choice so whenever you read something that you know is hogwash then breeze right past it on your way to success and if there is some validity to what they say, then apply the useful information to achieve your goals… Good Luck Everyone and that includes you Eat less…

If you are just starting out on PeerTrainer and reading this thread, don’t be discouraged there are great people on this site who really are supportive I know when I started after reading some of the threads I found that there was usually one or two negative comments from some folks and unfortunately it seems easier to listen to the bad vs. the good and I thought this isn’t for me, I know the truth hurts sometimes but along with some of those so called truths I also needed positive reinforcement to go along with them (but everyone's different) so instead of saying forget it I found a small group with similar needs and interests and what a difference it has made… it may take a few tries to find the right group but don’t give up, after all you came to this site for a reason?…Good luck!

All of you people here are pathetic. It really is about eating less and excercising more, not dwelling in your own self-loathing and disgust, while hoping and praying for emotional support from your peers. Like the 10:20 poster, many of the people here loove to bitch and moan about how difficult it really is to lose weight and how much support they need, and about how it's NOT about eating less and excercising more.
Well guess what? IT IS about eating less and excersising more, and the sooner you get that through your thick head, the sooner you will be on your way to losing all your weight, being happy, and not needing all this "emotional support" which helps you deal with your self-loathing a little more.
Spend less time thinking about it, and more time DOING IT. When you finally realize how simple it really is, you will not need to dedicate your whole life to the problem, and focus on living.
If I see any more rediculous posts about how we should all support and encourage eachother rather than give eachother the God-honest truth, I might puke.
If you want to dwell in your fat, tired, lazy and overalll thethargic states, continue to look for happy encouragement and support and don't let posts like mine bring you down. But If you actually want to do something positive and want to lose the fat tires around you and fell like a happy normal person, then don't listen to people like 10:20 who are soooooo afraid of getting their emotions stepped on that they would rather shut out all good advice and continue to live in their sad emotional worlds.

Eat less, Did you not read the purpose of PeerTrainer when you signed up? it says it is a powerful system for weight loss and fitness support, it says “The group members read your logs and keep you motivated and supported, let me give you Webster’s definition of a support group: : a group of people with common experiences and concerns who provide emotional and moral support for one another so I guess you’d better just puke and get it over with and then find a different web site that better meets your needs, you might be happier
